Eclipse 3100 is good, I have the same one. Just make sure your speakers can match its quality.

1K type of player all the branded CD player about same quality within the CD tracking sensitivity depends on the type of music you're into; certain brands attract different type comsumers with different type of additional assy technically or visually. Different ppl different brand taste like ciggarettes, end of the day most die of lung or throat related problems.

Hmm...which HU is less sensitive to scratches on cdrs, able to play pasar malam cds without problems? I have upgraded my entry level sony player to a midrange alpine 78xx (actually my friend loan it to me until I find a decent player of my liking)..all those cds that i have burned with some minor scratches are not able to read from the alpine 78xx. Previously the sony entry level player is good that it can read all kinds of cds and play it eventhough the cds have scratches on it..now with the alpine..it is a bit of a hassle to must have original cds then it only can play.

So any HU to recommend? I am currently looking at the Sony cdx-gt470us, don't know whether good or not to change it. So far, the alpine has excellent sound combined with the alpine component speakers..just that my chapalang cds cannot be read from this so sensitive alpine player.

Keep your Alpine jewel in your cupboard & get yourself one of those $400 to $600 type CD player for your techno-pasar malam music at the moment. When you're done with this type of music & time to mellow down to SQ type of listening, you can re-do your setup with the old Alpine HU. rclxms.gif

Hmm..don't be so racist la..people buy cd from pasar malam doesn't have to be techno ma wink.gif

Anyway, I'm testing the alpine cde7884 with cds which i've converted from mp3 into cd audio. It is a good player and it is still somewhat sensitive. Last weekend, I burned a brand new cd, take out from the cd drive and straight go into my car and inserted into the player..guess what..the display shows me --E- that is error! I was like ..omg..so sensitive meh..eject and put in again and this time can read wor. So throughout the weekend keep playing the cd and see..result is eventhough it is a brand new cdr, sometimes the player cannot read.

I'm thinking of getting a player with USB aux-in so that I don't need to convert my mp3s into cd audio but don't want to suffer on the audio quality too much. I usually have my volume at 4-6 when got people in the car and while I'm driving alone is at 14-18.

aha..now i find another person suffering the same fate as me..
anyway, I'm using imation cdr, they have not failed me in my data backups and my sony low end hu can play even scratched cdrs without skipping a track..guess there gotta submit to the fact that quality hu needs quality audio source to play out quality audio.

So anybody can recommend a mid range quality hu with USB aux-in?

oic..ok thank you very much. With the external usb wire dangling out, means the installer need to cleverly hide the wire somewhere on the center console.
