Malaysia
A Bon Odori Festival is also celebrated every year at Penang and at the Matsushita Corp Stadium, Shah Alam. This celebration, which is a major attraction for the state of Selangor, is the brain child of the Japanese Expatriate & Immigrant's Society in Malaysia. In comparison to the celebrations in Japan, the festival is celebrated on a much smaller scale in Penang and Selangor (Malaysia). Here, it is less associated with Buddhism and more with Japanese culture. Held mainly to expose locals to a part of Japanese culture, the festival provides the experience of a variety of Japanese food & drinks, art and dance. Who are the vendors? Usually who attends this festival? Melays, Indian, Chinese. This post has been edited by Synthesia: Jun 5 2008, 01:20 PM |

QUOTE Who are the vendors? Usually who attends this festival? Melays, Indian, Chinese. -Synthesia Huh?! The vendors/booths are usually food & drinks (and souveniors/toys for kids) usually the likes of chain restaurants like Sushi King, or smaller personal food vendor ppl. They have Japanese & mixed variety. Who attends? JAPANESE & M'SIANS! XD Finally, I can't wait to go with friends this year. I skipped some and I usually only go with family. I also wanna see the new fan designs. *_* OSH! |

QUOTE(Aeon_Clock @ Jun 8 2008, 07:38 PM) before you posted...nobody else mentioned a date, except me. Even that I took from another forum's thread...unconfirmed. No source... Chill, bro. Don't shoot other people furiously.is there any organizers to call to confirm the date? The reason they gave you two dates (12 and 19 July) is because there are two celebrations (the first will be in KL while the second one will be in Penang). Hence the information is correct. The only problem is that you didn't specifically ask about the location for both dates. Anyway, KL's Bon Odori taikai falls on July 12th (Saturday) this year according to The Japan Club of Malaysia's website. The location will be Stadium Panasonic Sports Complex. As for the Penang one, no news about it is posted on the JCKL website yet. But it's safe to assume that it falls on the Saturday after which is July 19th. Location will most probably be at Penang Esplanade field. Tips: Anyway, the easiest way I use to predict Bon Odori every year is to check and see which two Saturdays are the nearest to 15th July. The KL's one will be held on the first Saturday while the Penang's one will be on the second. Otanoshimini This post has been edited by Fusion[eX]: Jun 9 2008, 10:55 PM |

Aiks bernama say July 19. Weird The Japanese-based Bon Odori carnival will be held on 19 July, at the Matsushita Sports Complex in Section 24, Shah Alam. This is the fifth year running that the event is hosted by the state. |

just come back from there..
I am shame of being Malaysian at there.. we totally lose our pride in front of Japanese eyes.. 1) I dunno why there are ppl pushing left and right, run left and right when they are suppose to follow the rhythm of the dancers on the stages.. As result, the organizer give warning to ask ppl not to run and push.. OMG... like telling kindergartens' children not to run. 2) Saw some photographers, especially those with big lens and white lens, they like never saw Japanese ppl wearing traditional costume before. The Japanese families are having their meal, they go and snap them, and ask them to take photo with them, they are polite not to reject the request, but please lah.. tahu tahu lah.. imagine if u are eating, ppl come ask u can I take a photo with you ? The photogs come in a group, many of them, so u multiply the number of times the families have to stop enjoying their meal and entertain the photogs?? OMG...And those big big lens, like stalking ppl non stop You wanna take photos, please choose appropriate time. No offense on any photogs here.. 3) OMG, lala costume.. some even wear pajamas with dolls.. LMAO..*facepalm* How will Japanese ppl think about Malaysia ?? I dunno, I should go and ask them their feeling, but first, i must pretend hard to become non-Malaysian. This post has been edited by mindkiller6610: Jul 13 2008, 03:57 AM |

Back from 32th Bon Odori too, here is my view...
1. It's a cultural event to respect the departed spirits with dance + drums performance. But heck, there are some e-pen|s wearing pajamas, cosplay, super freaking lala suit to show off? 2. OK I know, girls girls girls is alot.. wanted to snap picture with them just ask them politely.. not to STALK them. 3. Yes as we know there is a section where food/beer stalls are setup and you can buy and eat.. but please la, throw the rubbish into rubbish bin after the meal. BTW, did I mention beer? 4. Bon Odori could be better with those people who knows the true meaning of the event. Sorry ya if I had offended you..~ |

QUOTE(Doomsday @ Jul 13 2008, 10:45 AM) Back from 32th Bon Odori too, here is my view... i told those to my fren, she said those are celebration, and asked me why am i so emo? Sorry ya if I had offended you..~ and yeah, i bought asahi beer, rm7.50 |

QUOTE(mindkiller6610 @ Jul 13 2008, 03:53 AM) just come back from there.. About the No. 1... it is something I really dulan about it...I am shame of being Malaysian at there.. we totally lose our pride in front of Japanese eyes.. On the last section dance, many idiota can't dance quietly and shouting... Even though it is like some kind of joy that suppose present in the dance, but when they shout, it may potentially affect the drummer and the dancer on the stage... And 2nd one... my friend did it, and there is something very very funny happen... |
