hello guys, im new in this thread thinking for buying psp very soon, but theres alot alot of offer here in LYN and makes me stuck for thinking all that.
so i would like to ask few question,
1. whats the different between fat & slim version besides the speaker and buttons, is there any changes in game playing and quality of the gaming,sounds,display? 2. have u guys ever bought psp with installment method? 3. I know buying psp with older version is more cheap than the latest, but theres is no problem for us to dowload custom firmware right?
1: Phat psp got infra red but psp slim don't have. Psp phat has less ram compare to psp slim (not sure how much already lol) game play all that should b the same. 2: installment? maybe for original from sony shop it is possible. 3:it depends. if the psp itself is already on custom firmware then it's easier. if not,it's a bit troublesome to install cfw
1. does we really gonna use the infra red? less ram means more slower right. 2. gonna ask sony shop first 3. how troublesome? have u tried b4? when it comes to pc, im quite good at it, might say amateur.
Less ram doesn't mean "slower".The more ram you have,the better are the applications used on your psp.For example,skype requires a lot of ram,and can only be installed on slim psps.
As for custom firmware installation,you don't need to worry about it.You'll get a custom firmware psp by default unless you ask for an official firmware psp (lol)
If you get an official firmware psp (Hopefully your mo-bo isn't TA-088 v3),you can only hack it (install custom firmware) using a Pandora's Battery.Don't worry,it's just a standard sony battery with a different ipl on it.To create one,you either need to softmod it (Using an already hacked psp),or hardmod it(Cracking the battery open,an d cutting pin 5).
i see, so firmware is not a problem, if buy original psp from Sony outlet, i can still hacked it, but need to buy specific battery, and firmware can just be downloaded from internet right? i heard, only the newest version of psp got the advance motherboard that hard to be hack right?
so Playboy21 tell me, between fat and slim version theres nothing much different in game playing? only that, fat version cant get connected to lcd screen but it have infra red?

Fat has less ram as in 32MB ram and slim has 64MB of ram. For games , i think both should work the same unless the game requires much more ram. Actually fat version can get connected to the lcd screen of ur monitor, through ur computer via the program "remotejoy" . But you cant get it connected to your tv. Only the slim version can be connected to the tv. For more info on the comparison, just youtube it and you'll see alot of comparison between the 2 version of the consoles..
and what if the game requires much more ram? so the can not be played on psp fat is it? and this remotejoy program/application are originally from sony or 3dr party apllication/program? was it freeware/shareware/need to buy?

Nah,the UMD loading speed isn't as fast as iso/cso loading,but it's a vast improvement compared to the fat psps.Most probably it's an effort by Sony to encourage us psp users to use UMDs instead of iso's.
LCD looks cleaner and clearer (Could be my eyes lol).And the speakers are way louder,no doubt about that.Better for gaming purposes.Also,the slim's internet browser is faster.
arhhh, finally it is much much cleared my mind about all this curiosity and doubtfulness to choose between fat and slim version.
well, for me im a regular web browser, and sounds turns me on. but, that can be fixed with just by switching it from psp embedded speaker with, external 2.1 speaker or earphone right.
plus, i prefer to use iso/cso than UMD because it is so so expensive right
anyway, Playboy21 which type of psp that ure using for urself? and which version did u prefer?
dunt wory about the ta-88 mobo... i've open dozen of psp.. new... most of the psp that reach malaysia only hav ta-85 which to buy slims or fat? if want to play games.. buy slim. if want to mod... better fat coz can do many things, IR are really cool...
hav 3psp... 2slims n 1 phat personally i like the phat better but abit bulky.. hehe
if cannot mod, than how to play games? what IR really do with gaming? i want that can do well with iso/cso, web browsing, and musics
guys, finally i bought the psp slim & lite black piano color thinking of getting the fat version, but due the they are no more production for fat psp. so its better to have a new psp slim & lite version, and i bought the black horn 12 in 1 kit too

first attempt on soldering to the sound terminals. failed to achieve high quality. wetfusion was right, i better solder them to the headphone jacks. left and right speaker points. the soldered ones are the + terminal. [attachmentid=564106][attachmentid=564117]

@wetfusion, mind showing/telling me how did u mob ur psp got glowing color led at ur L , R & ur UMD silver plate?
that one u gotta put in LEDs. drill a hole in each trigger button and drill a hole at the umd door. put in LEDs. but u gotta hook them to the sound connectors n all. u can pm him for more details. or better, check out acidmods.com for tutorials n stuff.

uh? Do you mean you want to softmod it by using your MSPD? Also,if you mean softmod,explain in detail on what you want to do with your fat psp.
My fat psp is on FW 3.11. if i want to change it to CFW, so i need to downgrade or hard mord right? if i want downgrade, it will need me Lumine UMD, which i couldnt manage to find one.
so the only option that available, is to hard mord to psp and install to the CFW 3.73 right?
Nope.You need a Pandora's Battery to hack your psp.You do NOT need to "hardmod" your psp in order to hack it.
There are several methods to create a Pandora's Battery.
1)Using an already hacked psp. -Just run the installer and the Magic Memory Stick creator on the psp and DONE!
2)Crack open the psp battery and cut a pin in it -Then create the Magic Memory Stick on your psp using an easy-installer etc.
*NOTE* : The battery hardmodding process can be quite an hassle as it can cause multiple injuries if not done right.Also,it might take several batteries before you can get it to work.This in other words means,pure waste of money.
*It's BETTER to get an original battery instead of a "Cetak-rompak" one.*
Tell me which process suites you better,and i'll give you instructions on how to do it.

Alright 1)What firmware is your psp? 2)What CXMB are you trying to run on it? 3)Do you have the .ctf themes in PSP/THEME?
Once you answer the above,i might be able to help you get some nice themes on your psp.
As for pspfiler,you might not have installed it right.

Yup,you do.It'll be all good if you can get a 1gb genuine memory stick.
how about the second method? do i need to use the genuine memory card? if im still going with the first method, do i still need to use a genuine memory stick?

Well,as Lacus said,he got it to work perfectly on his fake memory stick so i think it's all good.It of course is recommended to get a genuine stick,but a fake one is fine The real problem is the Pandora's Battery.If you manage to get it done,then you're cool.Why? Because the memory stick creation is a hassle free process which can either be done using a hacked psp,or via the PC.

Nah,no need to downgrade. Follow this guide.It's known to work on 4.01m33 units.
