Does you psp switch off after a couple of seconds? If it does, then it's fully bricked.

If it doesn't,you should try pressing the brightness button.Might seem silly, but solves certain problems at times.

If it still doesn't work, you can try reformatting your flash 1 (I assume that you do have custom firmware on your psp).Go to recovery mode -> advanced -> format flash 1.

*Recovery mode : Hold the off switch/remove the battery then re-insert it,and hold the R trigger for a few seconds till you get to recovery mode*

Also, what did you do last to your psp before this wierd problem took place?

Hmm,if you restarted the psp when it was flashing firmware files to your flash 0,then you're doomed. It most probably is bricked, and it can only be unbricked if you do have access to a Pandora's Battery.I believe there is a thread where a guy asked about "Pandora's Battery Service".Try searching for it.

Can you please tell me if your psp switches off after a couple of seconds? Because if it does, then yes it's a brick,no doubt about it,but if it doesn't,then it could be some other random error.

Jereath, you might want to try this.

1)Go to recovery mode (Hold the off switch for 3-4 seconds, then HOLD R and boot your psp up.

2)Go to configuration.

3)Change the fake region to either America or Europe or Disabled.

I can't say for sure if it'll work or not.If it doesn't,just use penmarker's link and upgrade your psp.I can assure you,the upgrader/installer is very stable unlike old installers.Nothing much to worry.

Any other way to unbrick psp except using a pandora battery? Coz feel like updating to 4.01 but i scare i brick it. Coz last time i read from other forum, they said after update they will ask u to press some button to restart or something, if u ter-press other button, then ur psp gone@@
*
Hmm,the Pandora's Battery is the only way.Just upgrade your psp to 4.01m33.It's not like you'll brick every single time you upgrade. It just happens at times. If you do it all right, then the chances of you bricking your psp is very slim.As for the "end-of-process-button-click" thing,it's just simple.Just click X once the installler has installed all the firmware files to your psp. (A message will be displayed on your screen asking you to click X).Just do so,and you're all good to go.

Also,if you need any help upgrading your psp firmware to 4.01m33,you can always follow this guide of mine.

http://psph.malloc.us/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=110

There you go.

My personal favourites :

Irshell -- File manager with plenty of awesome features
Psp filer -- File manager as well
Mypspshell -- Another file manager lol
NervOS -- Interactive shell
NPaint -- a VERY fun painting game
HomeViewer -- Allows you to organise your game list
Xplora -- Mainly for changing file directories on your psp itself.

Also,if you're a game fan,you might want to check out some homebrew games as well.Very fun indeed smile.gif

i just got my 2nd hand psp. can i do all these modding u guys mention?
its 3.90 firmware.
*
Is it on 3.90M33 or is it on 3.90 Official firmware?

If it's on 3.90 official firmware, then you'll need a Pandora's Battery in order to get custom firmware on your psp.Don't worry,a Pandora's Battery(which includes a Magic Memory Stick) can easily be created if you do have access to an already hacked psp unit. How,you may wonder...read the following.

Pandora's Battery Conversion Methods.

1)If you have an already hacked unit in hand :
-Download your favourite battery creator (My favourite is Hellcat's 3.xx creator),and run it on the hacked psp with the battery you want to convert to a Pandora's Battery in it.After the process is over, hey presto!! You'll have a Pandora's Battery in possesion biggrin.gif

2)If you DON'T have an already hacked unit in hand :
-You'll need to open up you battery and cut a pin. This process, however is quite risky to perform mainly because wrong moves can cause injuries to your body. This process is also unreliable (Tak boleh harap) because it'll take a few batteries to get it to work if you're unlucky.

Magic Memory Stick Creation :

1)Run the MMS creator via a hacked psp unit.

2)Run the MMS creator on your PC.This method is VERY easy and very good indeed.

Choose your options, and tell me what you want to do smile.gif

1)Yes it will.It won't install directly to your flash 0 if that's what you mean. It's just an odinary homebrew which runs from your memory stick.

2)As far as i know,Skype won't work on Japanese region psps.I'm not too sure though. (Correct me if i'm wrong, forumers) tongue.gif

3)Read my post above about the Pandora's Battery.Your friend's options are the same.

4)hehehe,thanks man smile.gif

Its not a hacked unit. =(. i asked the previous owner to delete everything inside d. not sure can play ahem game onot
*
Ok.Do you know anyone who owns a hacked psp unit?

If you do,then you can proceed with the softmodding method, but if you don't,then you'll have to use the hardmodding method where you'll have to crack open your battery and so on.

Do you want the softmod method(If you have access to a hacked unit) or the hardmod method(If you don't have access to a hacked unit)?

not to preach here, but I was one of the hardcore supporters of 'that', but after learning how hard for the developers develop the game, just give them their well earned monies for it. Time, resources, life were at stake. At least compensate them for their effort. Its actually your choice to support what ever you want, but personally for me, those days are long gone. I try my best to buy my games now. One day, when the problem is so rampant and serious, believe me, no dev will produce good games for PSP anymore. Look at PS3, since its still unhackable, good games are flowing like wine. Either way, its your choice that determines the fate of this wonderful handheld.
*
You actually are right, but i still disagree with the pricing system. It's almost like "4 UMDs == One new psp unit".Is that reasonable? To add more salt on our wounds,we aren't really high earners.A game is seriously hard to develop, but those developers who develop commercial games are all dead experts and they shouldn't have any problems flipping through the SDK and developing commercial games.I shall take the homebrew scene for example. There have been some really good 2d shooters like Kurok. This game was developed by a small group of developers. If they can share their games for free, why can't developers sell their games for an even cheaper price?

Seriously,i'd buy UMD's if they're priced around RM50-100.Above that,no thanks.

But still, you're right. We really should support their hard work.I understand that bit of it since i'm a homebrew developer as well.

true. you have valid points there.

but we have to consider, the UMDs are imported stuffs, and our country has a low currency exchange. the problem is, we do not have a UMD producing factory here, imported stuffs are expensive. then other costs such as packaging, transport, marketing etc. but I have to say, Sony did a smart thing with PS3. They sell PSN games, with no hardcopy manual, no middlemen budget and the games are dirt cheap, and still very good. Well, its our choice anyways  nod.gif

That's very true. It's impossible for me to deny that. tongue.gif

Hello all,

I'm still using cfw 3.71m33-2 on my rig, and am quite happy about it.
But lately, i've been having difficulties running a few latest homebrews releases although i can't be sure whether the old cfw version is the actual cause for them being not running.

So, i'm thinking is it time to upgrade my cfw? Want to know the pros and cons between my current version and the latest available cfw before making the jump since there's a risk of bricking.

Hope to hear some opinions.

Cheers.
*
Alright, homebrew's should run without any problems on 3.71m33.For this time,i'll help you install a game called "Stakker PSP" which is developed by MK2k.

Here,download this : Stakker PSP v2

1)Once done downloading that, open the Stakker folder and you should find a readme.txt file and a folder named StakkerPSP.
2)Copy the StakkerPSP folder, and paste it in your ms0:/PSP/GAME directory.
3)Go to your game tab on your psp and run it.
4)Enjoy!

As for the CFW upgrading process,i see no reason why you should perform the upgrade unless you do own some games that require higher than 3.71 to run.If all you want to do is to enjoy homebrew games and applications, then 3.71m33 is all good. It's up to you really. If you really do want 4.01m33,you can follow a guide of mine.Ask if you want it smile.gif

Just so you know, the latets custom firmware is 4.01m33-2 by Dark_AleX.

Have fun smile.gif

Hey im really new here, can anyone really explain to me what's homebrews all about? Like an example? I've read about it on Basics about PSP but i still dont get a damn about it.. LOL.. Thanks in advance~

ADDITTION
I've got a wireless router in my house and i've set enabled-security(setting password preventing others stealing my bandwith). Any ways to get connected to the internet with my PSP without disabling my router security? happy.gif

Alright.Do you know C/C++ and other programming languages? Well, other psp users who are good at this language(s),develop 3rd party applications and games that can be run on all homebrew capable psps. This games are all free of charge (Freeware) so don't get cheated by people who 'sell' you other people's developments. There are many cool homebrews out there..emulators..games..applications..plugins and many more.Check out your favourite psp-news site to download some of these stuff.

I've made one too tongue.gif It's called Playboy's Shooter.Check my signature biggrin.gif

mine cannot update... it state wat idstorage degeneration.. wat does tis mean??
*
Well,it means you have a messed up idstorage.(Your IDstorage keys are bad). This might have been because of a bad downgrading process. If it's a fat psp, then most probably it was downgraded from 2.80 without running the necessary patch. You can fix this error by using DCv7 (Ask other people in the forums for a Pandora's Battery if you don't have one).By using DCv7,you can regenerate your IDstorage. If you do not wish to go through this process, just leave your psp on it's current firmware and enjoy.
