Nope. You need a Pandora's Battery to hack your psp.You do NOT need to "hardmod" your psp in order to hack it.
There are several methods to create a Pandora's Battery. 1)Using an already hacked psp. -Just run the installer and the Magic Memory Stick creator on the psp and DONE! 2)Crack open the psp battery and cut a pin in it -Then create the Magic Memory Stick on your psp using an easy-installer etc. *NOTE* : The battery hardmodding process can be quite an hassle as it can cause multiple injuries if not done right. Also,it might take several batteries before you can get it to work. This in other words means, pure waste of money. *It's BETTER to get an original battery instead of a "Cetak-rompak" one.* Tell me which process suites you better, and i'll give you instructions on how to do it. |

QUOTE(WIS9000 @ Aug 29 2008, 09:54 PM) Hi ya, AlrightI'm looking for a way to organise the content on my psp, homebrews etc. Came across something called filer but can't seem to make it run on my rig. Any recommendations? Also trying to run the latest CXMB, but the themes are no where to be found under the Themes menu. I'm pretty sure the plug-in is enabled in the recovery menu. Btw, my rig's still running CFW m33-2, so could it because the themes are no longer supported? Any where to get 'old' themes? Cheers. 1)What firmware is your psp? 2)What CXMB are you trying to run on it? 3)Do you have the .ctf themes in PSP/THEME? Once you answer the above,i might be able to help you get some nice themes on your psp. As for pspfiler, you might not have installed it right. Added on August 29, 2008, 10:37 pm QUOTE(hazzy @ Aug 29 2008, 07:55 PM) Yup,you do.It'll be all good if you can get a 1gb genuine memory stick. This post has been edited by Playboy21: Aug 29 2008, 10:37 PM |

QUOTE(WIS9000 @ Aug 29 2008, 10:46 PM) Hi Playboy, Alright, follow this guide, and install CXMB 3.2.1 on your psp. It's compatible with 3.71m33,3.80m33,3.90m33 and 4.01m33 so you're all good to go.Here are my answers: 1. Using custom firmware 3.71 m33-2. Kinda outdated, but i remember reading somewhere that newer cfw kinda slows games down. Hence, don't think of upgrading it anytime soon. 2. Been trying a few themes, and can't remember their names. But all are not working. Any good old themes that u think that will still work on the 3.71? 3. Yes. All themes had been placed under the mentioned folder. The root, ms0: also has the cxmb folder in place. Any ideas? Cheers. Make sure the themes are for 3.71m33.They should all be in a ".CTF" format.Try this theme (Just an example) http://www.2alien.net/community/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=140 Download that theme, follow the guide above, install CXMB,place the CTF file in ms0:/PSP/THEME and select it in the themes tab. |

QUOTE(TJK911 @ Aug 30 2008, 09:24 AM) Yo guys... Am trying to find instructions to update to custom firmwares but not sure where to find them... Google-ed but the results all funny funny one. Follow this guide TJK911.It'll help you to upgrade your psp custom firmware from anything higher than 3.52m33-2,to 4.01m33.I'm planning to get a second hand PSP fat from a friend so want to learn how to update to newer custom firmware... Any recommended guides/instructions? Thanks ya lol Simple guide by me Added on August 30, 2008, 11:37 am QUOTE(-Nos- @ Aug 30 2008, 09:30 AM) Peformance wise, the slim unit is always better. The slim basically is better in every other category, but it really depends on you.I like the fat better because of it's 1.50 kernel support,Infra-red,and it feels really solid-like in my hands. This post has been edited by Playboy21: Aug 30 2008, 11:37 AM |

QUOTE(joshay @ Aug 30 2008, 12:17 PM) Hi.... I'm sorry to say,but that's a very silly thing to do.Now that you've upgraded it from 4.01m33 --> 4.05 official firmware, you can only revert back to your previous firmware(custom firmware) if you have a Pandora's Battery.I am new here. Need some help with my psp. I updated it to the 4.05 firmware. How am i going to access my games?? Or how can i change it back to the 4.01m33? Read the following Pandora's Battery creation methods, and tell me which ope suits you best. 1)Softmod the battery -This requires you to have access to an ALREADY hacked psp a.k.a homebrew capable 2)Hardmod the battery -This involves you cracking open the battery using a pick or anything like that, and snapping off a pin.(Very risky process, and you might cause injuries to yourself if it's not done right (No joke,i'm serious). This method might also take a couple of tries before you can get it to work, and this means....more batteries and a complete waste of money. -Remeber,do it wrong, and your battery is cooked. If you ask me,i'd go with the 1st process. It all depends on ya' If you don't have any of the above, get an original battery and a genuine memory stick and give it to someone you trust in the forums. They will convert it into a Pandora's Battery. Added on August 30, 2008, 1:53 pm QUOTE(joshay @ Aug 30 2008, 01:15 PM) When i updated my psp to the 4.05 firmware i cannot access the recovery setup anymore. what should i do? You can't access recovery mode on official firmware psps. Why? Because there isn't one. This post has been edited by Playboy21: Aug 30 2008, 01:53 PM |

QUOTE(WIS9000 @ Aug 30 2008, 02:25 PM) Hi Playboy, All themes don't work? Including the one i linked you?Tried the theme that u recommended, along with some other CTFs for 3.71m33 but still can't make them to run. Any idea? The plug-in is definitely enables in the Recovery menu. Or is it because this version is not supported for 3.71m33-2? Btw, will applications run slower on the latest CFW as compared to my current version? Cheers. Also, did you follow my guide and use the CXMB 3.2.1 included in it? |

QUOTE(WIS9000 @ Aug 30 2008, 03:08 PM) Yes, i've reached up to the stage where the CXMB is visible and is enabled in the recovery menu. But still no success. Maybe i should try older versions of CXMB. Anyone has the link for that? CXMB 3.2.1 (The one in my guide) works perfectly on 3.71m33 units.I don't understand why it doesn't work for you.Did you follow the guide exactly as it's written? Also, your themes should be in the THEME folder. No s behind it. So it's like - ms0:/PSP/THEME/heartbeat.ctf *Heartbeat.ctf is the theme's name.* Try it again. If it doesn't work, upgrade to 4.01m33 and use it. |

QUOTE(TJK911 @ Aug 30 2008, 03:17 PM) @Playboy21: Thanks man! That was great help. There's just so many around and some of them are so old I don't really trust them anymore. Your link definitely helped =) You sure can upgrade your psp to 4.01m33,but you'll need to perform one extra step first. You need to upgrade your psp to 3.52m33-4.Only then you can upgrade your psp to 4.01m33.However, before I attempt anything I've one last question... This PSP apparently is running on the 3.40 OE-A firmware. Is it safe to attempt to just upgrade by following your link? 3.52m33-4 Easy-Installer Download Link Download that, and run the .exe file on your PC.It'll install all the files to the correct directory on your psp and all you need to do is to run it on your PSP. 1)Kernel must be set to 1.50 for the installer to run.(Hold the off switch for 3-5 seconds, then HOLD R and boot your psp up.Go to configuration and hit X at the third option until it says 1.50 kernel.) 2)Run the "M33Upgrade352" which has a "space/galaxy" like background. 3)Once the upgrade is over, run the Update-4 which has the calendar like background. Done! Then follow this guide of mine to upgrade your psp from 3.52m33-4 to 4.01m33. 4.01m33 Upgrade Guide by Playboy Very easy right? Feel free to ask if you fail to understand anything. We can sort you out....hopefully |

QUOTE(TJK911 @ Aug 30 2008, 05:10 PM) @Playboy21: 1 question! Lol. Do I run the .exe with the PSP plugged in? Because I don't have the USB cable for this PSP. Or do I run it in the memory card? When I run it, it says "Stream read error" and the 2nd time I did that it says "Cannot create delzip.dll or something". But in the folder that .dll file is there... Yeap, format the memory stick on your PSP(backup ALL your important files first),connect the USB cable to your PC and then run the easy-installer (.exe file) on your PC.It should then place all the installer files to the GAME directory on your memory stick. And yes,a USB cable is needed Added on August 30, 2008, 5:39 pm QUOTE(Boomeraangkid @ Aug 30 2008, 05:21 PM) playboy, erm i use wat CFW to play installed games from internet?M33 or 3.95 GEN-2? and btw how to add custom themes? Both custom firmwares work fine. And as i told you,you need a Pandora's Battery in order to install custom firmware on your unit.As for the themes,i've already replied in the other thread regarding ptf themes. You can't use CTF themes on your current official firmware. This post has been edited by Playboy21: Aug 30 2008, 05:39 PM |

QUOTE(hazzy @ Sep 1 2008, 04:31 AM) Well,as Lacus said,he got it to work perfectly on his fake memory stick so i think it's all good.It of course is recommended to get a genuine stick, but a fake one is fine The real problem is the Pandora's Battery. If you manage to get it done, then you're cool. Why?
