ss88, mayb your hamsters always get wet coz they drop in the food bowl. The fur looks wet. You should never bath your hamsters with water.
fyi---this is 1st time i bath the robos...its like terpaksa<trying to get rid of the smelly smell>...huhu...n they might not fall in food bowl--as their food bowl is small n not high..

Never bathe your hamster unless it's a real emergency... Seriously.
The fur is oily because they sweat when it's hot. Also, when it's hot their body will produce oil, just like us.
They are smelly smelly not because they naturally are. I tell you, robos HARDLY smell. I think either your enclosure wasn't too clean.

Just a tip. Try using toilet sand. My robos love that. It generally keeps your enclosure cleans cuz they'll pee and poo at the toilet sand area. Also, they might roll in it. The sand ill help clean your robos fur. That's what I do and my hammies never had the oily look you described. Always silky and soft.

I often see them rolling in toilet sand rather than sandbath.

S all you gotta do is keep the toilet sand clean by changing it when it's dirty. I suggests you get some ventilation for your enclosure also. Robos that don't live in hot areas almost never have oily fur.
Just my 2 cents though.
thanx for the info..
when i adopted them---the previous owner have so much robos----like 30 something...and they are keep in room that they is no fan/air cond...and can be said always live in the dark...n the owner i think change their bedding rarely....that coz the room is so smelly...that time noob bout robos--try to adopted them to gain experience in raising robos and felt that they so cute n funny..and thought that their fur is like that sometimes...
i think this is the coz the robos fur like that...as u said--when they hot--they sweat..leave so long at that kind of room<previous owner>...
make its like their habt already...or the sweat cant be cure already...huhu..
