QUOTE(neshie @ Jun 3 2008, 09:02 PM) This wheel is not in production anymore from Hagen.Anyway it is not suitable for full size adult syrian as in the long term use will have bad side effects on their backs and neck. Better off with a wodent wheel junior or sanko 21cm wheel for syrians. Or use it for dwarf hamsters only. This post has been edited by blurjoey: Jun 3 2008, 09:49 PM |

QUOTE(crazymouse_yyh @ Jun 6 2008, 09:50 PM) Pet Family got many Syrians.... choosing one with a bear face needs time and also a good pair of eyes. Hamster hunting with people is good coz you get to pick your hamster with other people and also you can ask people's opinion about the one you picked. Quite fun. I did enjoy my day with Jamien and Neshie. Now I am in search for more Satin heheheh. I'm scared to go syrian hunting with others sometimes, what if we like the same syrian then how to choose ar? Don't think hamster will hunt crickets. We've tried with our 3 syrians. They didn't bother to touch them. But they will eat them.
Our SamSam ate the dead cricket left by our Echo our duprasi gerbil. There are pics and video in the fat-tail thread. But we didn't managed to take any pics of SamSam eating the cricket. This post has been edited by blurjoey: Jun 8 2008, 06:44 PM |

Well crickets are the same as mealworms I think. They are a source for protein and fat for our hamsters.

QUOTE(jayniel @ Jun 9 2008, 10:01 PM) ohh.. The tank used to be for our first robos hamster. We used mini tubes for a small hideout for the robos to climb to the outpost on top.i didnt know that the big cover in 2ft tank can be opened as well for, 1.5 ft tank, the clear cover is the small 1.. ps/ i see u make a hole in the cover.. why? actually i also made 1 hole in mine, thought can put tubes & make a fanciful tank.. mana tau the hole too small for habitrail tubes Currently the 2 fellas, Jery and Remy is with their god-mom as she got more time and patience to tame robos than us. Pine and cedar bedding will cause your hamster or small animals to have respiratory problems and die. Avoid using this bedding if possible.

QUOTE(jayniel @ Jun 15 2008, 01:08 AM) err.. stupid question.. so i buy lotion and apply to the tanks? or wat? got sell vaseline on its own one ar? dunno how to find >.< Off topic here (mod please warn me if I am breaking the rules):searched the web... vaseline is a brand is it? Vaseline is a brand http://www.vaseline.com Petroleum Jelly is the product which you can buy in any pharmacy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petroleum_jelly If you have lip balm for dry and cracked lips, it contains petrolatum which is petroleum jelly. Uses Chesebrough originally promoted Vaseline primarily as an ointment for scrapes, burns, and cuts, but physicians have shown that Vaseline has no medicinal effect or any effect on the blistering process, nor is it absorbed by the skin. Vaseline’s effectiveness in accelerating wound healing stems from its sealing effect on cuts and burns, which inhibits germs from getting into the wound and keeps the injured area supple by preventing the skin's moisture from evaporating. Vaseline brand First Aid Petroleum Jelly, or carbolated petroleum jelly, containing phenol to give the jelly additional anti-bacterial effect, has been discontinued. However, after becoming a medicine chest staple, consumers began to use Vaseline for myriad ailments and cosmetic uses, including chapped hands and lips, toenail fungus, nosebleeds, diaper rash, chest colds, and even to remove makeup or stains from furniture. Uses for pets include stopping fungi from developing on aquatic turtles' shells and keeping cats from making messes when they cough up furballs. In the first part of the twentieth century, petrolatum, either pure or as an ingredient, was also popular as a hair pomade. When used in a 50/50 mixture with pure beeswax, it makes an effective moustache wax. During World War II, a variety of petroleum jelly called dark red veterinary petroleum jelly was often included in life raft survival kits. Acting as a sunscreen, it provides almost perfect protection against ultraviolet rays. Most petroleum jelly today is consumed as an ingredient in skin lotions and cosmetics. Although petrolatum is less expensive than glycerol, the most common active lubricating ingredient in skin lotion, it is not used in expensive lotions, because it is not absorbed into the skin, resulting in a greasy feel. Petroleum jelly was formerly used as a way to pitch a spitball in baseball. Although the pitch was banned in 1920, pitchers sometimes throw "the spitter" surreptitiously. Petroleum jelly is used to moisten plasticine, as part of a mix of hydrocarbons including greater (paraffin wax) and lesser (mineral oil) molecular weights. Petroleum jelly is commonly used as a personal lubricant. (Not recommended due to its dissolving effect on condoms. See below.) It can also be used to lubricate a Rubik's Cube (if silicone spray is not available), which allows it to turn with greater ease. It can also be used to lubricate the anus if the patient is suffering from conditions like hemorrhoids or anal fissures. The purpose of this is to allow the stool to pass through the rectum easier and more freely in an effort to minimize any further damage to the tissue. It can also be used to lubricate the anus before taking rectal temperature. It can be used as a softener for cuticles and lips. ~I know what is vaseline petroleum jelly and it's uses. Why? Cause I've been using it since small. But all this information above is from searching in google. Really wish you guys and gals would just use it. Petroleum jelly will only masked the scent trail the ants created. It's a temporary solution. Also it will leave the place you smeared with petroleum jelly greasy and it might leave a stain on painted walls. The ants do come back as explained by sangels.
Sangels been using the ant powder since last year and today no ants near our hamster tanks. Plus it's just a small amount in the sauce plate nearby. No greasy mess. |

QUOTE(shenshenshen @ Jun 15 2008, 03:22 AM) 1 ques. will bathing ur hamster makes the hamster afraid of u? cos i bathe my hamster jus now...lol...cos it stinks ma....so wont harm if got shower abit.... From http://www.hamsterific.com/HamsterUniversi...msterABath.htmlQUOTE Bathing removes natural and essential oils from the hamster’s coat, which can cause the hamster to catch a chill and die. Bathing should only be done in exceptional circumstances, like if your hamster has paint, varnish or anything toxic on its coat that may harm it if it licks itself or ingests it. The hamster will clean itself if it is dirty and the substance is not toxic. Chinchilla sand will keep the coat clean and grease free. Normally there should be no need to bathe your hamster with water at all during the course of its life. You should try sand bathing first or use a damp cloth to wipe them. If you want to wipe them using a damp cloth, then use the damp cloth to wrap them in it to wipe. This way they will be comfortable and struggle less when you clean them.
