Hi, I just have a friend who fall into serious credit card debt. It is too late for him to realize the debt is really burden his life. and not just himself, but also his wife ! I just cant believe that such a discipline guy can get into this kind of messy.
Does anyone have any experience wich to share with us? Please do tell also how can drop into this messy situation. Thanks. doh.gif

People who fall into credit card debt DO NOT have discipline. There is no denying of that fact.

I use my credit cards quite often (occasional fine dining, petrol, grocery shopping and others) but I always pay extra to the bank when my monthly statement arrives. I am only using the card because I don't like the feeling of carrying so much cash around and I do earn some points or discounts from credit cards. Besides, it is more convenient for me to only pay for everything in one go.

Note: I am just a wage earner but I always know how much money I have spent on my plastics.

well, credit cards is actually a game between consumer and banks...

if we are able to pay in full every month, make full use of the credit card discounts, collect points and exchange good gifts, then we win...

if we cant do that, then we lose...
*
I think credit cards are pretty cool for the tiny discounts that we get for certain food and fuel. Too bad I have a tendency to pay them extra abit so I feel they are actually earning me interest tongue.gif

Haha I think you missed my point d. I do pay in full. In fact I always pay extra...e.g. I owe them RM 860.52 but I will pay sometimes RM 870 and sometimes RM 900. So they actually get to hold my money there tongue.gif Dont mind me, I'm just being calculative and whiny whistling.gif

Yealo, and I really like to pay in RM 50 denominations tongue.gif bad habit...MUST CHANGE

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Jun 16 2008, 10:03 AM)
@jeff_ckf,
Unless ur paying cash, I don't see the reason for paying the bank anything more than I spent *grins* - unless I know I'm going to need the additional credit [when I go away, I always make sure I have sufficient credit] - but I don't need to do that now since I now hold more than the 2 cards issued by Citibank.

Yes... do take advantage of their point reward system - but I find it difficult to accumulate points esp if I'm 'scattering' my payments hence I'd always believed in using 1 card as my primary card.
*
Yea tinkerbel, I do pay in cash blush.gif Don't have cheque and don't want let Maybank2u earn my RM 2 hahaha. Oh I have only my DA as my primary card. Lately been using the silly Citibank Shell coz need to fulfill the RM 20 quota and then cancel it icon_rolleyes.gif After that will be back to DA

QUOTE(SKY 1809 @ Jun 16 2008, 10:08 AM)
A very good plan.

Bankers like to call you more for some more loans ( not asking you for payments of course ).
*
I don't quite get you. U trying to say that bankers would love giving me cards coz I always pay more or u r saying something else? unsure.gif

@jeff_ckf,
RM20?!  Just use it once at the petrol pump and U would have exceeded the RM20 - how difficult is it to spend RM20?!
*
Haha no tinker....the RM 20 is the rebate. Stupid Citibank Shell does not give out rebate directly every month like DA does. Instead they accumulate it. For example, my Citibank Shell classic gives 1.5% rebate for shell fuel and 0.5% rebate for everything else. Let's say I spend RM 300 on Shell fuel this month and another RM 500 on other purchases, my total rebate is only RM 4.50+RM 2.50 = RM 7.00....So I need to collect RM 20 b4 Citibank gives me the rebate sweat.gif

AhHh.... I think U mentioned it previously before except I didn't pay much attention to it *grins*  Anyhow, I used DA to pay for petrol for the first time yesterday *grins*  Also, figured since I ain't going to be getting points if I used my Citibank card, I might as well shift all petrol usage to DA and gain from there smile.gif
*
Yep, will be doing that as well since DA was my primary card anyway. Lately using the silly Shell card coz need to clear off the RM 20 quota. Time to call Citibank for cancellation soon *grins*

I think i will have to take credit card debt coz my parents will send me money for my living costs and studies in every 3 months or maybe six months i am an international student so i want to know
I want to know some basic things are there a type of cards where u can spend more than ur spending limit what type of card is it? which banks issue it ?
how much interest do i have to pay if i spend more than my spending limit ?
how can i get a card like that? how much money do i have to deposit to get a card like that? plz answer me in details
i know i will be in credit card debt
*
I don't see how having the mentality of "I know I will be in credit card debt" got any relation with you being international student or whatever. You said it yourself that you WILL be getting your allowances every quarter or half yearly. So where lies the problem? I don't get the need for a credit card in your case, unless there is something I missed

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Jun 20 2008, 09:32 AM)
@jeff_ckf,
I don't disagree with the act of parents issuing a supplementary card to the child for emergency purposes; esp when they're not with them.  In fact, I got my 1st credit card [through the supplementary program of course] when I was 14.  The difference is that my folks trusted me with the card and knew I wouldn't abuse it.

The bank had initially recommended RM1k CL but dad said that was too lil and gave me RM3k which was later increased to RM7k then RM10k when I went overseas to study.  I never used that card as I had sufficient cash, or the card was used only for emergency purposes.

If I can't even manage cash, what makes U think I be able to manage a credit card?  It's not about love, it's about responsibility.
*
I don't think you see my point tongue.gif You see, if the parents are like your parents and can educate a responsible daughter, obviously the credit card would be just an emergency tool.

On the other hand, for some parents that don't really instill responsibility but rather feel that money would make everything okay type (trust me there are alot doh.gif ), they WILL be sweet talked and they wouldn't mind issuing such credit cards to their children. And we all know the story afterwards biggrin.gif

Heck, even with the PTPTN some students can buy a superbike....obviously thinking is not exactly a strong skill of some students sweat.gif

I see and get ur point.  Parents would know if their kids are financially responsible.  For those who knows their kids can't keep $ but yet decide to get a supplementary card for them, well they're just killing their child.
*
Yep, but these ppl do exist. Let's just hope they change or else their children will be the sacrificial lambs
