Dean Windass is the resident journeyman in the league now. Last I saw him play in the Premiership I think it was for Bradford. Anyway, kudos to him for having scored 15 goals in all competitions last season at the ripe old age of 39! Don't see him going the distance in Premiership games though.
To answer your question, no I'm not a Hull City fan but I'm hoping Paul Anderson is all he is touted to be. I can't help but ask though, who did you support before Hull? I know nothing about the club. Anything you can tell us? |

Don't know too much about Hull apart like their nickname is the Tigers. Got a former Reds playing there in Nicky Barmby. I think it must be a dream come true for him as he is promoted with his boyhood club. Afraid to say all those 3 teams that is promoted will struggle next season as those 3 clubs apart from WBA have premiership experience. Moreover this season in the Championship has been quite interesting as 16 times the league leaders has change over the course of the season. That could only spell the lack of quality of the team that is promoted.

I've looked at their squad from Wiki and these are the only familiar names to me:
a) Dean Windass - Resident journeyman. Typical English centreforward. Robust and strong but at 39, his best days are surely behind him. Don't see him starting up-front. b) Nick Barmby - Never rated him, even at Liverpool. Diminutive player that lacked pace or much skill. c) Michael Bridges - I'm assuming it's the same one from Leeds Uts. Has a scoring record as impressive as Jamie Carragher's. Use to partner Alan Smith up-front at Leeds but didn't have the same combative spirit or energy. Career has been plagued by injury. Loaned out by Hull to Sydney FC. Hopeless... d) John Welsh - Former Liverpool prodigy. Was touted to be the next big thing out of the reserves after Michael Owen but failed to live up to expectations. Made a couple of appearances for the senior side but didn't make much of an impact. e) Jay Jay Okocha - Well don't have to say much. Everyone knows him. It was said they are to adopt Bolton's strategy when it comes to transfers this season i.e. signing cheap/free old has beens. |

QUOTE(Chrisky @ May 26 2008, 04:37 PM) will he still be there next season ? i read it somewhere that he most likely retired after this term. He did say he was going to retire but the gaffa is trying to talk him out of is. Unless they sign any new players or promote some lads from the youth team, they will surely be one of the oldest teams in the league.i'm wondering is he still doing all those flamboyant moves. |

How much is the prize money for getting promoted to the BPL? Inclusive of TV rights and all.
I'm sure they'll have a good sum of cash, but having the reputation to lure good players in is a whole different story. |

they can get those players from those 2 teams who still want to play top flight football but money will play the major role.. |

I think players like Shorey, Kitson, Lita, Forsell and Dunne are decent but if they couldn't save their clubs from relegation, who is to say they can do better at Hull, a side with arguably less talent. Well like you say, I don't know if they have enough money to spend anyway.

Logically, players would want to settle down in a club for a minimum of 2 years on average. It's no point for players like Lita or Shorey from relegated clubs to jump to Hull knowing that a year later they'll be facing the same cycle again.
Players from relegated teams will most probably eye for a more secured top flight club, like Middlesbrough or something. |

read in BBC that Tiger's manager is like Big Sam..believe in systematic, discipline and planning...
chances dont look good for Hull but teams like this, who play hard and tough, may survive... at least there will be a team in bright orange...been missing the likes of Wolves and Watford...hahaha |

IMHO, Derby have a better team than the present Hull City team, that is before the summer transfers... so, will Hull do any better? Let's watch! Windass wouldn't last 70 mins in the BPL... even 5-6 years ago when he was with Bradford (and Boro? I think), he seems to tire out and got subbed... |

No problems, Proton's kepala harimau can sponsor 2 teams in different divisions.
Hull is not a small place (12th largest motropolitan area in UK) & putting Malaysian tiger in the eyes of BPL is good exposure. |

Brand association takda berapa bagus lar... probably can milk some publicity, the usual crap about some player exchange with Hull or training lessons etc... But Hull? Proton had problems trying to publicize their association with Norwich coz let's face it, I dare say 8 (cld be 9)outta 10 Malaysians won't know who's Norwich City! Hull is not a small place (12th largest motropolitan area in UK) & putting Malaysian tiger in the eyes of BPL is good exposure. With Hull, it's even worse... can't see any value there... bad investment IMHO, no offense... Days where brand exposure was enough are long gone... it's more than that now, it's about exposure and credibility. |

their early season form is amazing. not to mention their discipline and desire not to be beaten, which is what really amazes me, cos this team really has discipline.
however that said, they will have to keep this up consistently throughout the season. we see a lot of teams do well in the beginning (Man City) then get a string of bad results somewhere in the middle of the season for some reason (injuries, fatigue, etc) keep it up hull! you're making the epl worth watching! |

Hopefully Hull stays this way. Usually the promoted teams get fired up early in the season.
But as it goes later on through the mid season, we will see the lack of consistency. Don't get me wrong.. I love underdogs though |

Well I don't see Hull finishing in the top ten because I think in the long run, they lack depth. As elgee says, injuries and fatigue will set in as the season wears on and when the cup competitions get going, smaller squads will feel the pace more than the bigger sides. Over the years many sides have had surprising starts to the season only to falter at the end, over the very next season, most recent examples being Wigan, Reading and Man City of course. That being said, credit to Phil Brown's side for winning back to back games, especially against Arsenal and a struggling Spurs side.

Seems like Hull is flavor of the month eh?
But I like the way they press high up the pitch. Most of the time teams that just got promoted in the BPL tend to sit deep against the bigger teams. |

A string of good result and HULL CITY able to impress a lot of fans out there. Hull is playing great football and finishing in the top ten is possible IF they able to maintain the consistency and avoid injury to the key player such as Geovanni, he is crucial to the Hull side. This is just the start of the season, with FA cup and Carling cup coming, Hull will experience the fatigue and player have to be rotate to make sure they are fit. Geovanni can't play all the match, so expect Hull drop some few points and see whether they can climb back after the defeat.

but judging by the performance..i dont think soooooo... great team, great determination..really had a lot of respect tward small teams who give challenge among the bigger teams |

It's not a surprise someone opened Hull thread after they beat Arsenal and Totenham.
IMO, they do not so many players with technical abilities but their team spirit, determination and motivation are all above their abilities, which is something that the other stronger teams should learn from them. |

QUOTE(maxizanc @ Oct 6 2008, 11:22 PM) It's not a surprise someone opened Hull thread after they beat Arsenal and Totenham. agreed, like what iv stated..determination will result in winning..IMO, they do not so many players with technical abilities but their team spirit, determination and motivation are all above their abilities, which is something that the other stronger teams should learn from them. |

Hull are certainly punching above their weight. We've seen this in recent seasons where Wigan and Reading finished in the top ten the season after promotion and then free fall the following season. Geovanni is class and that Cousin dude ain't half bad. They'll probably slip up somewhere during Christmas when games come thick and fast and I reckon they would finish in the mid-table positions. The result against Arsenal was a shocker but I don't expect them to top that result thruout the season.

Actually this thread has been opened since May IMO, they do not so many players with technical abilities but their team spirit, determination and motivation are all above their abilities, which is something that the other stronger teams should learn from them. Hull don't have the technicality as WBA nor as rich as them but they are certainly punching above their weights for a promoted team. Good to see something new for a change |

QUOTE(uNeVErwaLkaloNe @ May 26 2008, 01:14 PM) i can seriously see hull city = derby, i just dont see how they're gonna survive at BPL unless they spend big which i hugely doubt so. you are wrong! Hull, from the way I've seen some documentaries on them on TV, is a good football club. Massive support from the local fans plus they do have the determination. And yes, to beat Arsenal on their own turf is something else. Spurs, as we all know, is declining. They could stay in top 10 in this season. |

Back in the championship, the season b4 this,Saints thrash them 4 - 0, but came back strongly to finish 3rd (They thrashed Saints back 5 - 0).
But as I remember, they are one of the fastest teams to get promoted.. The season Saints went into the Championship was the year they were promoted to the Championship (in 2005). B4 that, they were heroes for being promoted once per year. |

They've got really loud and passionate fans as well, which is a part I like about this football club. They made themselves heard at the Emirates and sang "Are you Arsenal in disguise?" last week at White Hart Lane.

WIGAN are not a 1 season team as they are doing pretty well without much financial aid. Reading don't have the financial power to hold their stars or else they would stay in BPL. Hull meanwhile plays as a team and I don't see anyone in particular really sticks out accept Geovanni |

lol.... now hull number 3 in the table standings....
dunno they can hold on or not... but they are playing good football lately im sure they deserve to stay on the premier league if they consistently perform like they did... unlike totenham n newcastle.... pure disapointment(though im not their fans), but those 2 are once steady UEFA cup clubs... |

not a hull supporter, but respect is given when it's due and i think hull's current mentality shows them that they have the qualities to challenge for top 4 spot.
kinda reminds me of Leeds when they used to be big.. thumbs up Hull! |

Hull produced another stunning performance to claim an unlikely share of the Barclays Premier League lead this afternoon. The promoted Tigers were second best to West Brom for large parts of a full-blooded encounter at The Hawthorns but hit the hosts with three goals in the second half.

New Hull supporter? Question is how long will you remain a supporter? A friend of mine studied in Hull but chose to support Spurs as Hull was known more for their prowess in rugby. Ironic how things have turned out so far eh?
I stand by my belief that Hull will run out of gas soon. Newly promoted sides have no pressure and will ride on the euphoria of having been promoted to the Prem especially since it's early days yet. As the saying goes however, "form is temporary but class is permanent", expect their good run to come to an end soon. Don't get me wrong, I would like nothing more than to see an underdog stun the big sides (with the exception of mine of course |

Hull is fast becoming everyone's second favorite side at the moment. Its nice to see a new team performing (way) above expectations and beating the top sides in their own backyards. How long will this form continue? They're up against Chelsea in midweek and I highly doubt that Phil Brown's side will be able to better another London club. Most fans would have probably settled for safety prior to the beginning of the season, therefore like Duke Red said, there was no pressure. Too early yet to dream of Europe, my guess is they'll finish somewhere in the middle of the table, about 11-14.

Hull aren't gonna be approaching this game like a small team either. They've got confidence and it looks like there gonna go for it. It'll probably be a 3 or 4-0 to Chelsea. You can match Chelsea at the bridge you've just got to take every chance and keep it very tight in midfield.
They've got man utd after the Chelsea game too. Ouch. |

hull is strong for now and we need to respect what they'v shown so far rather then playing for nothing like rest of the team in which dont hv the goal to go further..Achievement must start from somewher and now we can see that the team do hv the purposes when joining the league, compared to watford who just entered for the sake of nothing then get relegated.
But as i wud see it,beating chelsea is not impossible, but almost impossible, that's all..best team win |

Chelsea put high-flying Hull in their place to get back to winning ways in the Premier League with a 3-0 triumph. Hull had gone into the game at the KC Stadium trailing the Blues only on goal difference but a stunning strike from Frank Lampard after just two minutes established superiority.

sounds like Hull gave a good account of themselves at OT - they also showed they have the mentality to bounce back from the defeat to CFC - sure they lost again but 3-4 at OT is bloddy well done.

Al thought they dont have the funds to strengthen their squad but if they can practice and perfect the set pieces , freekicks, counter-attacks and all the essential fundamentals of football today, no doubt they be like the bolton like we fear under Uncle sam before and yet even better.
PS : if Football manager 2009 is out , gonna give try hull city a try .. huhu |

QUOTE(wilsonjay @ Apr 12 2009, 06:54 PM) I bet the up and down he mentioned is conceded 1 goal in the game and come back for it, winning the game.Obviously, his definition for "up and down" is like that.Didn't you know his definition for "glory" means relegation battle?
