Hi all...

i would like to ask is anyone using the Nikon MB-D80 Batter grip or the phottix Mb-D80 grip.
is there a vast difference in terms of performance of both grips when attached to D80? Bursting wise would the phottix loose to Nikon?
reason i ask is the price of phottix is half of nikon.

link to phottix grip

http://www.lelong.com.my/Auc/List/2008-06DSale14480679.htm

i m interested in getting one but considering my budget, i don't want to end up regretting getting a cheaper one should the performance is way worse than ori nikon.

any advise would be grateful but i anticipated that most reponses would be go ori...

any feedback on the phottix?

thanks

Well, if you're really in a budget, then go for the cheaper one.

Have a read on the following...

From pic alone, can tell the built quality is not as good as a Nikon.

ok guys.....

i finally went ahead and bought a phottix MB-D80 grip. the grip is solid and very very similiar to Nikon's MB-D80. i bought it for RM270 from digitalsmania.

hehehehe i bought a phottix battery for RM60 at the same time

Right is phottix , Left is nikon.

in terms of the Rubber grip, nikon finishing is nicer and complete wheras phottix grip is softer and not so nice finishing. some parts the glue visible.

in terms of Locking with d80 body, nikon tends to sway even though it's lock tight to the body but phottix fits completely without swaying..

overall, in terms of design... the phottix is 99.99% similiar to nikon.. you will not be able to tell the difference by looking. ony by touching the rubber grip u will know.

the shutter release is as good as nikon's. nikon's grip shutter is very sensitive and at times may accidently presses while phottix's is not so sensitive thus reducing accidental exposure..

the only major difference is the AE/AL button material and fonts. Phottix is glossy wheras nikon is Matte...

apart from that, performance wise is same. pins quality looks similiar...

overall,, i am satisfied with the phottix grip...which only cost me half the nikon grip..

just try it yourself. If the performance are good then just settle with the Phottix.

and you've said it yourself. Settle with the Phottix.

There's NONE.

Simply bcos, there's NO electronic contact point within the D70 body for battery grip control purpose.

Recently i just bought one Phottix D80 grip
but sometime the grip shutter release, the shutter/aperture adjuster and the AE-L/AF-L dosn't work..
the grip is set to unlocked and both batteries are full
so i'm just wondering is this normal or my grip has problem?

Dont have any problems with my Phottix grip. Might be a faulty unit. Go back and check with the seller.

Can you tell me if the phottix battery grip has the half way down auto focus, then all the way down shutter release?

Im unsure if either the Nikon/ phottix have this feature and cant find this information anywhere online.
Thanks.

Thanks for the conformation of the mb d80. Anyone want to let me know about the phottix bp- d80.
I plan on buying one of these tomorrow, but the route I go depends mostly on the auto focus feature on the Phottix.
Thanks!
