hey guys
i am interested to apply internship at intel for next year industrial training
my internship duration is limited to 10 weeks only which is from May to July
i know it is a short period which most of the companies don't want.
but no choice, i have to follow the rules set by BEM =(
so, any suggest on how can i apply the internship??

Used to be that you just send in your resume to HR. They'll process it, pass it on to any engineers that are looking for interns, and the engineers will give you a call.

Recently they ask that you upload it through www.intel.com/jobs

You can also forward it to anyone working there and they can pass it on to their friends. If they are interested, they'll give you a call and tell HR they want to take you in as an intern. It's very flexible.

I think you could do a lot worse than Intel. Don't worry, people there like to b****. I've friends there saying they want to quit all the time, but they'll be collecting their 10th year service award later this year.

And many of my former colleagues who have left Intel tend to return after 1 or 2 years outside. I think it's probably the best MNC in Bayan Lepas.

I think that's because no other company is willing to give higher pay than intel. LOL.

It's probably one of the highest paying MNC in FTZ, and the overall package is better than most as well. Although I found out recently that other MNCs are willing to match or improve on Intel's package for high-level positions.

Hi,

I'm new to Malaysia and Intel. Whats the typical job roles and salaries for engineers in the 10-15 years experience bracket?

Also, what are typical costs in Penang (school fees, house rent, etc). I'm trying to decide if its worth moving.

Thanks

Where are you from and what's your current job?

If you're a high-level technical staff, then it's livable. If you're a low-level grunt, then don't come over.

Also depends if you'll be getting an expat package. If you're getting paid like a local, I think you should just stay where you are. There's a reason for Malaysia's brain drain problem.

how many months bonus did intel give this year?
*
They have contractual 1.5 months bonus a year.
1 month in Dec and 0.5 in June.

Then you have Employee Bonus and Employee Cash Bonus Planx2. These 2 are variable.

ECBP is based on Intel's profit margin for each half of the year.

EB is based on your grade level as well as your salary and performance.

Both these bonuses are complicated to calculate.

EB becomes attractive once you reach a higher grade level.

Hey guys,

I will having a Intel telephone interview at coming week. Any ideas how it going on? Been informed there might be a interviewer from US as well. Hmm...

BR,

Depends on the interviewer, really. Intel is a huge company with many different groups.

If this is your first interview, then expect some basic technical questions to filter you out. If you've already gone through the technical interview, then it could be a behavioral one to see if you fit into the group.

The downside is that the basic salary isn't as good as other MNCs, generally. So at the end of the day, one could be getting more or less the same as their friends working in other MNCs who pay out less bonus. Overall I think the total compensation (salary + bonus + stocks) is still competetive.
*
What are your friends doing? I thought Intel is probably the top in terms of total compensation in Penang area, especially for people doing IC design.

haha...not just that, i heard their expectation is crazy. weekend + 12 hrs of daily working is expected if not you will not finish your workload.

I think mostly young engineers who are starting out do that to move up.

I remember when I joined long ago almost everyone in my batch doing extra to move up. Fast forward to today and I see my friends there are pretty relaxed. A lot holding very high positions - some are directors and principal engineers.

When you get more experienced, you'll pace yourself better to avoid burnout. You'll want to spend more time with family too. Put in extra hours only when absolutely necessary and if the impact is high.
