For the Past 20 odd years,the genre of " Stealth Action " combined with Modern Age Tactical Espionage, with heart-outta-the-mouth cutscenes,edge of the seat twists in the plot and a gripping story wouldn't have captured a spot in every gamer's heart without the ongoing critically acclaimed Metal Gear Solid Series,thanks to Konami Computer Entertainment and The Legendary Creator, Hideo Kojima, for his Outstanding & Phenomenal skills in the industry.

Metal Gear ( MSX2 & NES )


When the first Metal Gear debuted in 1987 on the Japanese MSX2 system it was an instant smash hit.The protagonist named " Solid Snake " became a hugely popular figure throughout the gaming world,more kind of an ICON I would say.The world of which this game is set it was truely remakable and indistinguishable from the rest.From the story of the game to its variety in gameplay set a trend of games that were to come based on this.Later this was ported to the Nintendo Entertainment System as well and yet again creating a huge fanbase.

Metal Gear 2 : Solid Snake ( MSX2 )


1990 saw the release of Metal Gear 2 : Solid Snake on the MSX2 which was a direct sequel to the original classic and yet again was written and directed by Hideo Kojima.But this time it had In-depth twists and turns in the plot,involved politics to a major level,history of military and the theme of " One who goes for a gun will get gunned down in the end " well explained.The game featured cutscenes ( in an era where there were no mocaps or voiceovers ) to brilliantly portray whats happening in the game which the predecessor lacked.The gameplay and the enemy AI saw major improvements to call this THE best Stealth Action game of that generation.It wasnt ported to the NES as Metal Gear was.But recently this & the first one came on the Disc 2 of Metal Gear Solid 3 : Subsistence on the Playsation 2 as an extra.These 2 titles were merely a tip of the iceberg of whats more to come in the following years.

Metal Gear Solid ( Playstation & PC )


Eight years later,on Sony's first ever video game console came the higly anticipated sequel to the Metal Gear games of the MSX2 and it sure came with nothing less than perfection.Once again written and directed by Kojima himself the game featured a storyline that exceeds the caliber of some Blockbuster Hollywood Action movies.The graphics department had visuals of being one of the best on the Playstation even at the end of the infamous era.The voiceovers in the game ( particulary David Hayter,Cam Clarke and Patric Zimmerman ) had the spotlight almost instantly after when the game was released and had some of, if not THE best voiceover of that generation of gaming.Solid Snake had a huge arsenal of weaponry at his disposal this time around.The music was composed by Norihiko Hibino and perfectly matched every background and cutscene of the game.Every Metal Gear Solid game has a theme,and this one had " Genes " as it.This time around the characters were more and each and every character in the game had background info which is quite unique in a video game.Not to mention the bosses in the game who were developed quite remarkably and so were the battles with them.This was later remade into a Gamecube exclusive by the name of Metal Gear Solid - The Twin Snakes which got a very good response.Metal Gear Solid went down in history as the best Playstation game of all time and this most of all was a Masterpiece that cannot be forgotten .


Metal Gear Solid 2 - Sons Of Liberty ( Playstation 2 , PC & Xbox )


E3 2000 showcased the first ever trailer of Metal Gear Solid 2 - Sons Of Liberty running in real time on actual Playstation 2 Hardware..The fans of the game as well as the worldwide gamer audience were in a state of shock after being demonstrated the power of the Playstation 2's infamous " Emotion Engine ".The trailer recieved the best music in a trailer in that show as well.The game was released November 13, 2001 and is still my personal favourite on par with the original Metal Gear Solid.The graphics,as said before,in the final build set a benchmark on every platform.Music this time was composed by Harry Gregson Williams,the mastermind behind The Armageddon & The Rock,and was responsible for the awesomeness of the score in the game which is THE best in the series till now.The Story of Metal Gear Solid 2 had to answer lots of critics as it raised lots of unanswered questions related to the on going story.Unfortunately It didn't and actually ended with a new beginning.The characters this time have specific backgrounds as well and again were extremely well developed.Metal Gear Solid 2 's theme focuses on " Meme " more kind of Passing on the torch to the Next Generation.There was evolution seen in nearly every aspect of Metal Gear Solid 2.Whether it be Graphics,Gameplay ( with excellent and improved AI ) Music,Story ( wih its complex plot than the previous one ) and the new stylish way of portraying those breathtaking cutscenes with an brilliant musical score will keep you at the edge of your seats wondering what's gonna happen next.In the end,if Metal Gear Solid was a true Masterpiece on the Playstation then Metal Gear Solid 2 - Sons Of Liberty is nothing less than that for the Playstation 2.


Metal Gear Solid 3 - Snake Eater ( Playstation 2 )



When Kojima after the completion of Metal Gear Solid 2 said that he's gonna quit,the puzzled fans of the series signed millions of petitions,sending E-Mails and letters through post to continue the series and eventually tie every knot with answers to all their questions and thus Metal Gear Solid 3 : Snake Eater's Project begun.Metal Gear Solid 3 is a prequel to every Metal Gear game and the first in the series when it comes to timeline,the starting point of it all.Revolving heavily around the antagonist of the Metal Gear games on the MSX2,Big Boss,as the protagonist of this one,John Doe A.K.A. Jack , Codenamed Naked Snake thrown into the Jungle of a fictional Russian mountain named Tselinoyarsk to bring back a rocket scientist who's forced to develop a Weopon of Mass Destruction and answers nearly 50% of the unanswered questions from Metal Gear Solid 2.The game was written and directed by series Hideo Kojima and Shuyo Murata.Once again Hideo Kojima proves himself that he's one of a kind.His skills go way beyond our imagination and this is a fine example.The main theme of Metal Gear Solid 3 being " Scene ",The climate in which events occur and the impact it has upon them.No Metal Gear game before has so much political incidents ( even though fictional ) involved and again brilliantly tied the knot with the main story of the game.Metal Gear Solid 3's plot involves right from the start of the 19th century till the end of the 20th century where major incidents like the Cold War and the JFK assassination were involved..This time,sub characters aside,the main characters are given of a major importance and for a reason as well.the Boss battles were really innovative and actually differ from each other which is very unique.The gameplay this time had major changes,bringing Stealth to play more of a vital role in it than the previous games.Close Quaters Combat ( CQC ) was introduced and there was variety and lots of fun in the gameplay.Metal Gear Solid 3 had graphical improvement as well.Beautifully rendered Jungle environments and audio was top notch and yet again the musical score being composed by Harry Gregson Williams.Metal Gear Solid 3 was was later revamped with a version known as Subsistence featuring free camera movement rather than the traditional helicopterview that the games are used to.It even had an Online Multiplayer mode which had a very warm welcome from the fans as well as gamers worldwide.Metal Gear Solid 3 laid the platform of what's in store for us coming June and easily one of the all time greats.
