QUOTE(20thCentury @ Dec 15 2009, 05:38 PM)
All this ho-ha hype..after seeing James "Avatar" sounded like stone age ppl seeing CGI for the first time.. so jakun..

C'mon wake up fella...its no longer a big deal with CGI nowaday... anything is possible in this century after the evolution of computer technologies... Thanks to George Lucas... the birth of special effects using computers which were scratch built, hand made model and background platform, the idea of using used future effects and all those idea of space ship, AT-AT walker.... all were all adapted from his idea and story, without him all just a dull movie.

The all time credit should be to George.... apparently most of the sc-fi film producer/creators were happened to evolved by George's Star Wars.

Talkin about big budget film of this century.. do not dare to compare with Star Wars... IMO in mankind history the biggest budget film ever made in human history is Star Wars and it was indeed the biggest achievement of film-making which open our mind to anything that beyond impossible is possible.

It will be a not big deal if Avatar will bag special effect award..its is nothing compare to what ILM had done with Star wars... so in conclusion AVATAR just a plain evolved CGI movie.. no big fuzz about it.

It was as cringeworthy as This Is Sparta.
No, "This! Is! Sparta!" was awesome. "This is our land!" is just meh. smile.gif

QUOTE(Makakeke @ Dec 20 2009, 04:58 PM)
The effects were outstanding but the acting, dialogue, storyline were subpar. It's like Pocahontas of the 21st century.
I disagree, but more with your choice of words than with your sentiments. I don't think the storyline was subpar at all. I think it was just formulaic and tired, but it was executed terrifically well. Give the same story (and the same CGI and 3D) to Roland Emmerich or Michael Bay and see what happens. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(satsugai @ Dec 20 2009, 05:12 PM)
the story just felt weak at that part, as to why they would so wantonly and callously cause that much destruction on the whim of one man.
Who said it was because of "the whim of one man"? It was because, as Giovanni Ribisi said, the little grey rock that sells for $20 million a kilo. biggrin.gif

Doesn't mean its origin/purpose need not be explained.
I don't think it needed to be explained at all. What difference would it make?

There were no english subtitles, when talking in alien language.
I hate it when they do this. vmad.gif Lucky Inglourious Basterds didn't have that.

No subtitles? when the character whisper to each other or the bomb is too loud to hear their conversation or the Na'vi is speaking in their native language, is it easy to understand the whole movie? I bought original DVD simply because of the substitle and superior quality so that I can understand the entire movie.  If this movie no subtitle, how la?
<sigh> Yes, there are subtitles.

Aiyo, those red and blue are so last decade lah. New one is slightly tinted but you won't really notice it. And the technology behind it is much much better than the old red and blue. And yes, it sits nicely on top of your own specs, though it does tend to slip occasionally.
I know someone who says they keep slipping even though she doesn't wear specs. Apparently the shape of her nose is just like that. laugh.gif

Worse comes to worst, spend the whole 2-1/2 hours holding the glasses up with your hand lor.

@defaultname365,
What is the diffrence betwwen #D and non other than the sharpness? Actually want to watch 3d but ticket sold out and I afraid will good headache after that. But if the difference is big, probably will try to watch it.
The difference is that 3D makes it more immersive. It's like you're not just watching a movie, you're entering a whole new world. If you watch 2D, you'll probably feel the movie's weaknesses more - predictable plot, draggy pace, cliches and stereotypes, etc.

It amuses me to see the newspaper print quotes from this forum for promoting Avatar!! Lowyat.net posters are easily impressed... Any movie even a bad one like Transformers 2 is commented as "BEST MOVIE EVER!!" following by this icon  thumbup.gif .
shakehead.gif The marketing department of Malaysia's cinema distributors really bodoh. Putting other people's words into your advertisement without their permission is illegal. Can sue one.
