The Navis didn't know that the avatar is controlled by a human at first, right? Where did they think these avatar come from then? I think it was mentioned that the 'sky people' (which means human) sent them? And how are they able to tell the avatar isn't one of them? By the way they dress?
i wonder is the navi's inside the movie is real person acting or purely cgi? i just cant different it at all. looks soo real
already watch Avatar the making at astro couple days ago.... The navi's are totally CGI if u watch the making... they use human muscular face (with dot) to copy face movement in cgi... thats y we see its so real and this tech quite new... u can see the different if u watch terminator salvation which they create arnold with funny face.. y happen like that... its because they create...
for avatar.. the computer copy the movement from real actor faces...
p/s : maybe somebody here have best explanation about creating movement in cgi using real person..

i wonder how much they pay primary school kids for the praying ritual
finally i saw the 3D version. Having seen the 2D first (not by choice...), its a whole new experience. The 2D is just another movie fill with CGI. I rate the 2D 6/10.
now the 3D... its not like everything is super real in 3D. take the Hallelujah mountain, it still look fake in 3D. the forest is alive in 3D, the battle scene is very engaging, heck... anything you can imagine that is in dimension probably will look in dimension. its not so much of watching a movie but its experiencing a movie.
for a fact, i can say that the 2D is about 2sec longer than the 3D. the "mating" was off in 3D. you get to see like 2sec of them mating in 2D.
for a movie (in conventional sense), i still give it a 6/10. there is nothing super fantastic. its like watching the sci-fi version of Dances with Wolves. However, for the experience i'll give it a perfect 10.
btw, watching the 2D first does have the advantage. I know the story, i concentrate enjoying the 3D effect.
Steven Spielberg: The last time I came out of a movie feeling that way it was the first time I saw Star Wars.” … “The most evocative and amazing science-fiction movie since Star Wars.”
Pixar Animator Andrew Gordon: “We were blown away. Hats off to all the amazing artists that were involved with making that film. You guys really set the bar high. I was immersed in the story and characters. The animation/motion capture was superb. You could tell every frame was touched by an animator, mocap or not. I have not felt like that since I was a kid… The facial animation was so believable… Every eye dart, every movement of the brows communicated things so clearly. The world was so lush. I can’t wait to see it again! Some of the guys saw it in 2d and liked it just as much. The way to experience it in my opinion is 3d Imax. Cameron really knows how to push and pull the depth.”
Lost co-creator and Star Trek producer Damon Lindelof: “I’ll say what others won’t. Avatar hypnotized me. I’m not sure if it’s a work of genius or utter shit. Could it be BOTH?”
X2 and Superman Returns director Bryan Singer: “It was very cool. I had seen 30-40 minutes before, but the whole thing was amazing. From the beginning, with those shots in space, I felt goosebumps. It was inspiring. I’m going back and forth, debating, on using 3D for “Jack,” and it pushed me a little closer in the 3D direction.”
No doubt "Avatar" is the best of 09. Right alongside "D9". Love em! Oscar for Avatar next year for Best Visual Effects. Undoubtedly. This is revolutionary!

Cameroon is known to be a arrogant snobish guy. He got a well-known run-in with his pinewood studio crew while filming Aliens. The relationship was so hostile at the end of the shot, Cameroon toast them and call them B*****D. I think Kate Winslet say something like she will not work with Cameroon again.
Different people different taste, but Avatar is the one and only movie that I actually paid twice to watch in cinema. First in normal then 3D, some more with my wife and 2 kids.
Having watched 2D at GSC@1 Utama and 3D at Cathay@Cineleisure, I felt that the sound system of GSC was much superior to Cathay.

Granted, will you want to work with a hot headed director like James Cameron even though he is a mastermind of movie making? Apparently the actors "get it lightly" but the crew always kena scolding from him badly.
Want to know the source of Jim's anger/temper?

"James Cameron: I would say that my father was completely unsupportive in any way, shape or form, and was really sort of just sharpening his knives waiting for me to fail so that he could say, "Ah-ha, I was right. You should have gone into engineering." And it was also this sort of attitude of, "Well, you know, one of these days you'll get a real job and this film thing, you know, will pass as a fad." So there was zero support there. And I actually think that it made me angry enough that I had to succeed. I think if I had a soft, rosy, supportive kind of "It's good if you do it, but if it doesn't work out..." sort of thing that it would have been different. But it kind of made me mad, and I had to prove that I was right, that this was the right thing to be doing and I think it made me mad enough to get good, you know."
Lol... father wanted him to do engineering but he went into movie making. And proved him that it was the right choice.
i just want to say this....the 'navi' must be a cousin of elves and if elves exist they would want to live in the pandora planet!! i salute you...james cameron!!
i just remember another scene in 2D that was cut from 3D. The scene where Jack choses his Ikran. the scene in 3D start with them climbing the Hallelujah mountain. The 2D show more of them running between the rocks.
