QUOTE(QuickFire @ Dec 20 2009, 08:40 PM) That's the definition of a McGuffin. If you are really irritated by the lack of explanation then I can see how you could not fully enjoy the movie. Its use is absolutely not essential to the story at all. The point is, once man finds something valuable and untouched he will plunder it all by any means necessary, and especially if the enemy is technically-inferior. I'm 100% certain Cameron deliberately left it out of the movie! It didn't bother me when I watched the movie but I still fully expect it to be explained in the sequel (if there's one).

I hope there won't be a sequel, it's a fine movie on its own. All those extras can be insert into the Blue Ray release. Well its just me but Blue Ray is a MUST BUY for this movie This post has been edited by shinjite: Dec 20 2009, 10:36 PM

Just watched avatar 3D today for the second time, really awesome. Those little kids stood up trying to catch the holy plant which came from Eywa. Really laugh my ass off, showing how much they enjoyed the movie. Thumbs up and 10 stars goes to avatar. Beautiful experience in pandora.

I've just watched the movie for the second time. I can tell you that my second viewing is definitely better than the first. I don't know why but I wasn't as bored as the first time and I think I have better grasp on certain scenes which I didn't catch before. The 3D once again amazed me. Fantastic movie, probably in my top 5.

QUOTE(BeastX @ Dec 18 2009, 04:14 AM) Visually stunning... So-so plot.... Pandora and inhabitants are still too earth-like.... The Navi are too human-like based on earth's tribal society.... Human so advance for inter-galaxy space travel, yet some of the weapons and scientific equipment very outdated A planet with earth like properties will produce almost, it may not be entirely the same but similar creatures. Scientific equipment wont really change much over time, just look at the glassware used today and 500 years ago. However, FTL travel within a century and a half maybe slightly too fast.

There were no english subtitles, when talking in alien language. Did other cinemas have same problem? u serious? When we watch 3D, there is no subtitles, but only for alien language. QUOTE(n00b13 @ Dec 20 2009, 10:47 PM) I don't think it needed to be explained at all. What difference would it make? In this movie, it doesn't. But if you're going to have three movies about it and continuously have people on Pandora for unobtainium, then I think it would logical to explain its purpose or function.

QUOTE(BelowAverage @ Dec 21 2009, 01:25 AM) Imagine watching lord of the rings 3 movies and they dont explain the function of the ring~ It's rather like watching Jurassic Park without explaining how the dinosaurs came from. You don't need to explain it for story's sake but these little details that make a good movie.

Agree with you that it doesn't need to be explained in this movie. Look at Pulp Fiction, the "stuff" in the briefcase was never shown too. Maybe when unobtainium has something to do with the main plot of the next few movies, they will gonna explain it. This post has been edited by crashoverride: Dec 21 2009, 01:55 AM

Sorry, that I din't check that if the ship is FTL or not. I think Cameron named it with a generic term - unobtainium for a reason (it just means stuff that is physically quite impossible (massless, frictionless)) from wiki.
