Me and wife love it. Stardust : awesome, 3 d shooter. Dark Mist :also a 3 D shooter, but not as impressive as satdust, a bit regret. Toyhome : u control a car with sixaxis..damn awesome. Super rub a dub : a party game, useful to keep my in laws busy. Calling all cars : awesome party game, but it gets boring preety quickly. Super Puzzle Fighter : a good puzzle game. Got online mode, tapi u knowlah, asians online mode sekejap jer. Warhawk : awesome Battlefiled kind of game. extremely addictive. PS1 PSN games: MGS1 = Mgs. dun need to eleborate more. my hot cooking (cant remember the name, bought in PSN jAPAN)= sool game, ala WTF for PSP. Ey, was wondering, if I deleted an installed Demo from my PS3, will it also delete the Demo installer? *or the installer was deleted when I installed the Demo?*

I noticed that Sony has started putting PS3 demo kiosks at Sony Style in Klang Valley area, dunno about other places.
Tried to check the firmware of these kioks unit, but unable to access System Settings from the XMB. Definitely not a normal retail unit, but a demo unit. |

thats actually a demo unit..actually you can set yours if you know the button sequence. I have a friend from PS2Scene that bought a PS3 off eBay and found out the PS3 he bought was a demo unit. H had to return it as when he went to sony service center, the guy the unlocked it and said according to the serial number, the ps3 was stolen.

Its nothing much really just that the skin of 40gb is a bit dull if compare to the other siblingand its nothing to shout bout it either as the purpose of having PS3 is to enjoy it and not for decoration at home Sorry if i offence any owner of 40gb ver. .... |

RUMOUR: In-Game XMB to be included in Firmware 2.40; In-game XMB, user-music and Trophies will not work with all PS3 titles
Videogaming247 has learnt that the upcoming in-game XMB - heavily rumoured to be included in PS3s Firmware 2.40 - may not work with all PS3 titles, and that user-music and Trophies functionality is only being included as an option for Sony developers from this point on. By point:

*UPDATE*: Sony will more than likely be announcing the firmware officially next week!
*UPDATE 2*: One more video coming! *Update 3*: Looks like they added a clock to the XMB. Videogaming247 has it on good authority that the upcoming PS3 Firmware 2.4 will include in-game XMB and Trophy support. Were told that the added XMB feature allows users to play their own music in-game. Programming tools to support the update have apparently now gone out to developers. Were unaware that a release date for the software has been set. Sony has already said that in-game XMB will be added to PS3s functionality this summer. -videogaming247.com They also say that these features will not work with all PS3 titles, meaning that only the newer games or patched games can use these features. But this is great news for the future of the PS3. http://xmbmod.com/?p=84 again videos were taken down! |

New PS3 controller ?
QUOTE It has been brought to my attention that PlayStation Underground held a secret focus group earlier this year. A small group of PS3 owners were sent to a facility in ****** ****, California to test a new PlayStation product in development. Once inside the testing facility, these PS3 owners were shown a mini-tripod that stood about 12 inches high. and what looked like 4 black PS3 wiimotes. Well they were essentially wiimotes for the PS3, but didnt need a nunchuck attachment. I will refer to them as PS3motes for now on. You can have up to 4 of these PS3motes connected at one time. A demonstrator at this focus group was there showing off the PS3motes capabilities, along with some mini-games to play. The mini games ranged from tennis, to fencing, to a really really cool paintball game. The demonstrator even used the PS3mote to play Quake on his laptop. The PS3mote is said to be incredibly responsive and accurate. When the demonstrator crouched while playing the paintball game, the character on screen did as well. Source if this proves to be true, then Wii is gonna face some serious competition |

QUOTE The Civilization Revolution demo is coming this Thursday, June 5th, to PS3 in the United States and Xbox 360 worldwide. The European version of the PS3 demo has been slightly delayed, and will be coming in the next couple weeks and I will keep you posted on developing details. The demo features both single and multiplayer modes that end at 1250 AD. You can play as either the Romans or Egyptians (youll have to wait a little while longer to test your skills at the other 14 civilizations!) Online, you can face off against another player and three AI in the head-to-head mode. Ill see you all online Thursday: I challenge any of you to a head-to-head match! heads up! I asked the sales representative at one utama's new sony centre and he told me his superior did mention to him that the PS3 may be launching this year. Sometime next month or august. He did say it hesitantly, as if not quite sure of how true it is. Something to think about, yes? |

Disapponting news indeed. I'm actually looking forward to 'The Getaway'.
The Getaway and Eight Days PS3 cancelled ![]() Sony has announced that production has ceased on forthcoming PlayStation 3 titles The Getaway and 8 Days, both previously in early stages of development at the companys London Studios. According to Sonys official statement, It has been agreed that production of both 8 Days and The Getaway will cease immediately due to the redistribution of resources and budget. This decision was made following an internal review of all games and it was deemed that with the incredibly strong list of exclusive first party titles coming up both this year and in the near future, resource should be reallocated to enhance those projects closer to completion. Both games were originally unveiled in tech demo form at Sonys 2005 E3 press conference and little has been heard on either title since. Expect to hear even less, henceforth. yup. I posted that news here too. Smart of sony to develop the more powerful system and then only fine tuning the motion sensor accessory, instead of developing the motion sensor first but limiting themself to a weaker processing system, like the wii. accessory cheaper to buy than a whole new more powerful system.

"gunso tho patrioto"
very different hearing Kaz Hirai speak in japanese. first time i've ever heard it. IMO,he seems more professional speaking japanese, and when he speaks english,he seems...a little playful..(and boastful sometimes) anyway, nice video! even shows the auditorium...crazy lucky reporters! |

All BD games, DVD game NTSC/J (GOW 2) and even a AVCHD DVD+R disc are fine. It was the first case I encountered (I've repaired a few PS3 with dead lenses). The owner later sold it (quite cheap) and bought a new white 40GB SG PS3 as he don't play games on PS3 but only watch BD movies.Btw, you said that you once fixed a PS3 and it could not play BD movies anymore. Cause, no point ler u buy PS3 and those two games. Mostly this bricking happens to 60GB (haven't heard any 40GB problem... yet). This post has been edited by Cyphereza: Jun 17 2008, 03:09 PM |

in game music might be abit of a pain.
microsoft patented something that has to do with in game music, and rumours are circulating that they would sue sony should sony implement it in the PS3. anyone heard of this? Added on June 18, 2008, 12:02 pmHere This post has been edited by Mgsrulz: Jun 18 2008, 12:02 PM |

Yeah... since everyone is moving on to PS3, 360 sales must've been down...
Anyone using 2.36 already? Any improvements or changes? |

Look, the patent Microsoft had for in-game music was only through its own Xbox dashboard. Meaning, its patent actually only applies to in-game music being played from the HDD through the dashboard.
Now, heres the loophole. Super Stardust HD has done it long ago, in-game music was provided through the game itself. Nothing to do with PS3's XMB. Granted that you cannot switch music anytime you want as you can with the 360, its still better than nothing. There are other ways around where Sony should be able to do something about the patent. |

Not when you're talking to MGS die hard fans!
Actually, MGS is sort of 3rd person. FPS is first person. Well, yes MGS does have the first person view but most of the time you'll be getting the 3rd person view... |

QUOTE Rumors are flying that Heavenly Sword 2 has been canceled by Sony, which if true will mark the third major title shut down by Sony in recent weeks. A Kotaku report quotes an "inside U.K. source" as saying the game has been terminated by Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe because it was no longer considered commercially viable. The news was apparently delivered as part of a meeting at Sony Cambridge, the game's developer. On a related note, the source also claimed that Ninja Theory, the team behind the original Heavenly Sword, is becoming "increasingly bitter" about its treatment by Sony, and is in the process of moving out of the building it has thus far shared with Sony Cambridge. Sony has not yet confirmed the cancellation of Heavenly Sword 2, but did attempt to explain the shutdown of Eight Days and The Getaway in a recent interview with GamesIndustry. Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Worldwide Studios, said that while starting and canceling projects is a normal part of business, these games were somewhat unique because they weren't necessarily being developed for release in the first place. "The situation was that because we started talking about the PS3 in 2005-6, the idea concepts that became the Eight Days and The Getaway projects had something very representative of things that we think will define this generation of game development - the particles, the fantastic explosions, and so on," he said. "So company management decided to show it as an example, as a demo, not necessarily meaning that they were titles to come," he continued. "It could have been a little bit confusing because there were lots of announcements of actual titles, but because of timing we made the unusual decision to announce those two at a very early stage of development." "It must be disappointing to the people who worked really hard, but they know this is part of what we do," he said. "So I think it looks like big news, but it's really not. It happens, just usually without you knowing." Update: An employee at Ninja Theory has responded to the rumors of the Heavenly Sword 2 cancellation, as well as its own plans for the future. "We [Ninja Theory] never started work on HS2 as we wanted to focus on new multiplatform IP," the staffer, named Tameem, wrote in a post on NeoGaf. "Sony owns the IP for HS and we have never been privy to what they would do with it." "As for moving, we have been planning to move to larger premises for future expansion for the best party of a year. There is nothing bitter about the move," the post continued. "And the rumor that the team has been disbanded is ridiculous. We have had an unbelievably loyal team especially as we went through some difficult times securing a new publishing deal. We have a new publisher and are busy on our new project which is going very well so far." "HS is far from our thoughts at the moment." http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/...Theory-Responds bodoh SONY nih |

Wow, even as a trailer, the Linger in Shadows video fails. It's just a huge mishmash of unrelated, bizarre scenes (flying beagle? Floating bricks?) that convey absolutely no information about what it is or does.
And maybe it's just my tv (32"LCD) or the trailer quality, but the graphics look terrible compared to the new benchmark, MGS4. Two cents. |

when can sony realize, by persuading more companies to make their classics avaliable on PSN(other than Japan) it will totally kill their competitors? FF7? FF8? And I personally think, their is no stopping them from releasing ps2 titles via PSN too. software emulation is always better than hardware emulation.

Eh? I tot since Xenogears is already coming to PSP, shouldn't it also be available for PS3?
Btw, the new 2.4 firmware is really looking sweet. Though only rumoured, BGM, Gamercard, trophies, the things make it look sleeker and sweeter. And the leveling up system, I really rike! Now, we have a PS3 getting exp points. We're in our own game! |

QUOTE(samurai20 @ Jun 25 2008, 09:07 AM) CVG has managed to get its grubby hands on the final list of features for the hotly anticipated Firmware 2.4 update, which was yesterday rumoured to be due early next week. But that's not the case we've been told...Update: Since our original story went live, we've received further information regarding the inclusion of trophies in the 2.4 update. As expected full 2D trophy support will be in the XMB update and there will be four types: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Platinum is only awarded when you have collected all other trophies in a game. Also there are no gamer points, it's all done via a levelling up system. Think Call of Duty 4 levelling up system, we reckon. Update Out Speaking under strict conditions of anonymity, a source has told CVG that Firmware 2.4 is expected to launch in around three weeks' time. A quick look at the diary reveals that E3 is just under three weeks away. It doesn't take a genius to see that Sony's pre-E3 conference would be the perfect time to launch the Sony XMB assault. Announcing something and making it available at the same time is the way forward, as Microsoft proved by revealing Doom isn't just coming to Xbox Live Arcade, it's on Xbox Live Arcade a few E3s ago. Apple is known for this approach too. We've also scooped the following list of XMB features that you'll be able to access in-game. Here goes: * Friend category * View, send, receive messages * Manage downloads * Set the vibration feature of the controller * Sign in to PlayStation Network * Register friends * Manage Bluetooth devices * Terminate the game * Music category * Use the system BGM * Work the system BGM operation panel * Settings category * Assign controllers * View profiles * Game category * Set audio devices * Use the voice changer As previously reported the update will also allow you to play back your own tunes in-game from the XMB Music column. It's unclear whether this feature will be compatible with all games or just new titles created with more recent development tools. The system BGM will offer functions such as Play, Stop, Previous track, Next track, Change repeat mode, Change shuffle mode, Change volume (five levels). When you stop the playback of your tunes, playback of the game music will then begin. Sony has yet to confirm or deny any of this and won't comment on rumour and speculation. If you ask us though, this is bang on the money. Not long to wait and see... http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=191641 |

Nyko Zero PS3 Controller Review PS3's first rumble controller sets the bar high. ![]() ![]() February 14, 2008 - If you're a PS3 owner looking to make use of the newly implemented rumble technology on your system, options thus far are pretty slim. You can import the new Dual Shock 3 controller from Japan for $60, you can hold off and stick with your current six-axis controller until the US release, or you can go third party. And when it comes to premium PlayStation controllers, we've taken a liking to Nyko's Zero series, with a very positive 8.9 review of the PS2 controller a year or so back. The PS3 is now in full swing, and with it comes another Nyko Zero alternative to the official Sony pads. Despite the hundreds upon hundreds of third party controllers out there, we've never found one we'd actually rank above its console inspiration. There's an extreme level of care, testing, patents, and money thrown into official console controllers, and as such third party manufacturers have their work cut out for them to say the least. As far as PlayStation is concerned, the bar is extremely high, as the Dual Shock series is widely considered to be the most comfortable and dependable controller out there. That being said, gamers looking for tilt and rumble on PS3 have a chance to pick up a pretty solid piece of hardware in Nyko's product, and you won't have to deal with the hassle of importing along the way. So what comes packed with the Nyko Zero PS3 controller? Pretty much everything you'll need. The controller's design has remained relatively unchanged from its PS2 inspiration, but the box has far more tech in it than most people would expect. For starters, you've go the wireless receiver. It's smaller than the previous Zero design, houses a small sync button, and a large red LED at the end of the dongle. Its flat design has been swapped out for a more classic USB dongle look as well, resembling a small jump drive. As for the rest of the gear, you'll get a red and black PS3 charge cable for your controller, a NiMH battery back with 25 hour play life, and a AA battery back adapter if you want to bypass the charging altogether. As for the controller itself, Nyco has gone with an extremely unique design, and it's pretty solid overall despite a few personal changes we'd like to see. To kick things off, Zero has longer hand grips, similar to a thinner rendition of the classic Dreamcast design. The handles start flush with the buttons and D-pad, but actually curve back the farther down they go, which actually makes for a nice thumb rest. The entire face of the controller is covered with a metal plate screwed directly into the polymer, which is cool to the touch and designed to say that way during play. On the back you've got a battery clip nearly identical to the 360 controller design, As for the buttons and sticks, Zero is pretty solid once again. The two analog sticks are coated with rubber tops, using a concave design instead of the curved convex feel of the regular PS3 controllers. It's more 360-inspired in design, and they feel great. The d-pad is a single-piece plastic design that actually sits higher up on the controller, rather than resting flush with the controller's face. It's still got a bit of a funky feel, as you won't get the same result with a third party d-pad as you do with Sony or Nintendo products (Microsoft pads have always suffered as well), but it worked functionally just fine. We wouldn't defend our honor on the Street Fighter battlefield, as throwing fireballs or rolling the pad with precision isn't the best feeling in the world, but it worked just fine for using items in Ninja Gaiden or navigating the PS3 menus. The four face buttons are both raised and backlit with red LEDs, and actually the best feeling part of the controller. We've had no problems with stick or lose buttons, and they sit high on the unit, far enough away from the right analog stick or rubber start/select buttons. As for the triggers, the left and right pedals are sharper (like a trigger) and a bit shallow when compared to the PS3 pedals, but they work great. The two shoulder buttons (R1 and R2) actually sit higher on the controller – almost like a Super NES shoulder setup – and feel a bit cheaper and soft overall. They still worked fine, but they don't have the same high-quality feel as the rest of the controller. As a side note, the ergonomic feel of the controller lends itself better to using just pointer fingers for the R1/2 and L1/2, so people looking to use pointer and middle fingers in tandem may feel a bit cramped. Also, the battery back on the back rests pretty close the R2 and L2 triggers, so you'll need to use your fingertips rather than resting your whole hand across the back of the controller. After a few seconds with the unit in hand though, you'll find your comfortable position easily. Where Zero really makes a case for dropping $60 though, is in its rumble, six-axis, and home button options. The rumble pack is housed in the main section of the controller, and is ready to go out of the box. As long as you're playing something like Ratchet and Clank that's already rumble-ready, it'll start kicking the moment you fire. It's a bit less of a shake than 360's pack, but it still feels nice to have that tactile feel back again. As for the six-axis technology, Zero does a fine job, and it feels identical to the current PS3 standard. The sync button for the controller also doubles as the PS3 home button as well, so while it displays a multi-color strobe when syncing with its dongle, it'll turn red and act as a fully-functional home key once connected; also working perfectly. As a final addition, a small charge indicator is located between the two analog sticks. If the LED is glowing, it's charging. Once it starts to blink, it's fully charged, and ready to be unplugged. So given PS3's current circumstances, how is Nyko's rumble option? All in all, it's a pretty solid direction to go, as long as you don't mind forking down serious cash for a third party controller. On a personal note, I'm usually a first party controller or nothing gamer (just a personal preference), but even still Zero has won me over in a pretty big way. It still has its issues, as the d-pad isn't perfect, and the R1 and L1 buttons are a bit soft for my liking, but the fact that you've got a backlit controller, rechargeable battery pack and AA alternative option, charge cable, rumble and six-axis support, and a sturdy, comfortable design makes this one a great alternative to importing a Japanese Dual Shock 3 for $60 plus shipping. The sticks are comfortable, the controller is sturdy, and it's hands-down one of the best third party controllers we've used. |

QUOTE However, if any previously released titles get patched (a la Super Stardust HD), players must essentially start anew to get any trophies. Trophies will not be retroactively awarded based on save data. Source Guess we have to replay the supported games again to get the trophies |

I hope 3rd-party games gets patched soon as well.
And why I do have this feeling that some of these 3rd party games already and actually have support for trophies in the first place? |

QUOTE([W?) Hey it is in-game XMB! which means that you can now access to mail box and friends list without even need to go out from a game that you're currently playing, just press PS button then it will immediately pop up the XMB menu, you don't know it? It is kinda convenient and long waiting for all the PS3 users, man Some more the new firmware inclusive of the trophy achivement stuff, jut like XBox 360, it is also a nice addition to PS3 as well This post has been edited by SeanWong: Jul 2 2008, 01:24 PM |

Updated, installed. In-game XMB finally! Still no in-game music however since that will need to be patched and enabled by developers(blame M$ for their patent).
Now, all theres left is to wait for developers to hurry out those trophy support and in-game-music support. |

most of older games won't get a patch for trophies or in-game mp3
the worse part is that asian version is always slowest getting any patch. Star Strike HD Asian/JPN still not patch unlike the rest of the world months ago. anyway, why no in-game gamefaqs page? sambil play game, sambil read gamefaqs |

Super Stardust HD as well have in-game music. Its not difficult, rather I think why developers never did it in the first place is because theres no demand from Sony themselves. Unlike MS who uses hardware for their in-game-music feature where they patent it, Sony cannot directly do the same thing. So then it'll be up to developers to patch their games with support through software for in-game-music. |

QUOTE Lempel: The only game that will officially be patched on the day of the firmware update is Super Stardust HD. The other games announced on the PlayStation blog will eventually update. no power surge no nothing.. I let it install after downloading, then when I checked back, there's only the XMB background without the icons. no hard disk activity. the machine doesn't allow a soft reset, so I tried a hard one.. still the same thing.
I updated via wireless, not via thumbdrive.. =\ can I download the update to a thumbdrive and allow the PS3 to reinstall it? This post has been edited by nerd: Jul 2 2008, 03:45 PM |

alamak..via wireless
personally I am against this updates using teh internetz directly...as its very prone to loss of data.. thats why i will always use my thumb drive.. what to do lah in cases like this...my first time reading this kind of case. My office mate also faced kinda similar problem in the last update, but his was more direct, blackout during update. I have to say your best bet is to send Sony an email on this |

from your description, it looks like the update process must be somewhat corrupted just a suggestion: try dis-engaging the HDD 1st and see if the PS3 can boot normally. rmb to use a correct size-screwdriver. |

I e-mailed Sony already.
hmm I think I'll try out what acougan suggested, although I think the corrupted files are in the flash.. because it happened after the installation of the firmware. sigh |

QUOTE(acougan @ Jul 2 2008, 04:02 PM) from your description, it looks like the update process must be somewhat corrupted Yeah, nerd. Maybe you can try this method.just a suggestion: try dis-engaging the HDD 1st and see if the PS3 can boot normally. rmb to use a correct size-screwdriver. Because from my previous experience changing HDD, everytime I install a new HDD, or swap HDD between PS3, it will prompt me a message saying that firmware is corrupted and ask me to put a external device (i.e. thumbdrive) containing firmware update file. And, after selecting Start + Select at the same time (or that's what I think the system prompt me to do), PS3 will reinstall the firmware using update file inside your thumbdrive. |

PS3 has signature checking to verify that it is from Sony, so corrupted downloads will not be installed as the downloaded firmware will fail the signature check. I use DigestIT2004 for simple md5 calc/verifying

sorry guys, I am also still learning in the checksum thing, but what are the possibilities of the data, despite of having a correct sum, but its corrupted, in the sense that the wrong data equalizes the valid checksum figure?

imo, the checksum actually is useful when comparing the size of all three regions (ASIA, US JP) if you guys check, they have the same figure. I tried updating my asian ps3 with a US firmware, and it was okay. but in nerd's case, my guess is the firmware was okay, but somehow his PS3 f***ed up in the process.

QUOTE(Ninja @ Jul 2 2008, 04:07 PM) Yeah, nerd. Maybe you can try this method. hmm I removed my hard disk already, but I don't have a replacement hard disk to try it out.Because from my previous experience changing HDD, everytime I install a new HDD, or swap HDD between PS3, it will prompt me a message saying that firmware is corrupted and ask me to put a external device (i.e. thumbdrive) containing firmware update file. And, after selecting Start + Select at the same time (or that's what I think the system prompt me to do), PS3 will reinstall the firmware using update file inside your thumbdrive. there's still hope I guess, as the message that appears now is 'cannot start. the correct hard disk was not found.' need to ask my dad for his spare notebook SATA hard disk when he gets back home tonight then I should be able to try it out for sure. thanks for the tips Ninja, acougan. appreciate it I think I'll just take the spare hard disk my dad has, use it to boot up the PS3 and install the software, and switch back to my old hard disk I doubt the same hard disk will work again without reformatting, I'm sure there's an identification of sorts implanted on it. any guesses? Anyone here with StardustHD bought from USA/Asia/etc PSN? Mine is from EU PSN. I wonder if trophies for diff version/region of games can be compared against each other or not.

Is it just me, or Streamyx having problem? I kept getting dc after installing the update...always have a few errors...for example the FFFFF error while trying to view my friends profile.... I know that all the updates from different servers is the same, i've dl-ed from Japan via PC....but does that contribute to the problems?

guys, the hard disk method doesn't work, but maybe because I don't have the correct equipment. gonna head over to Sora's house tomorrow to format my hard disk using his PS3 and see how, because he successfully managed to update to 2.40
if that doesn't work I'm gonna perform a low-level format on the drive and see if that does the trick. last resort, ask bernard to claim warranty for me sheesh, NEVER trust Screamyx, especially when it's PMS-ing, to update your system software, especially if it's a major update |
