RUMOUR: In-Game XMB to be included in Firmware 2.40; In-game XMB, user-music and Trophies will not work with all PS3 titlesVideogaming247 has learnt that the upcoming in-game XMB - heavily rumoured to be included in PS3’s Firmware 2.40 - may not work with all PS3 titles, and that user-music and Trophies functionality is only being included as an option for Sony developers from this point on. By point: - Sony’s currently going through PS3’s library to check whether or not in-game XMB’s full compatible. While it’s expected that the the new menu system, in-game messaging, and so forth, will work with virtually all games, for a minority of titles the current black menu screen will be retained. It’s not known yet which games, if any, won’t be able to use in-game XMB.
- The user-music functionality is only included in the new development tools, which have now gone out to coders. This means that existing games won’t support it unless they’re patched. That’s right: you won’t be able to play GTA IV with your own music unless Rockstar updates the game, if what we’ve been told this morning is true.
- Same for Trophies. They tools required to add these are only just in the hands of developers, which means it’s going to be some time before you see the feature appear in a major game.
- Some aspects of the XMB, such as the photo viewer, won’t be available in-game after the 2.40 Firmware update. If you select these features in-game, you’ll be asked if you want to drop out of your game to access them.
There’s still no release date for Firmware 2.40 as yet, with Sony sticking to “summer” for now. Source: http://www.videogaming247.com/2008/05/30/p...all-ps3-titles/

*UPDATE*: Sony will more than likely be announcing the firmware officially next week! *UPDATE 2*: One more video coming! *Update 3*: Looks like they added a clock to the XMB. “Videogaming247 has it on good authority that the upcoming PS3 Firmware 2.4 will include in-game XMB and Trophy support. We’re told that the added XMB feature allows users to play their own music in-game. Programming tools to support the update have apparently now gone out to developers. We’re unaware that a release date for the software has been set. Sony has already said that in-game XMB will be added to PS3’s functionality this summer.” -videogaming247.com They also say that these features will not work with all PS3 titles, meaning that only the newer games or patched games can use these features. But this is great news for the future of the PS3. http://xmbmod.com/?p=84again videos were taken down!

New PS3 controller ? QUOTE It has been brought to my attention that PlayStation Underground held a secret focus group earlier this year. A small group of PS3 owners were sent to a facility in ****** ****, California to test a new PlayStation product in development.
Once inside the testing facility, these PS3 owners were shown a mini-tripod that stood about 12 inches high. and what looked like 4 black PS3 “wiimotes”. Well they were essentially “wiimotes” for the PS3, but didn’t need a “nunchuck” attachment. I will refer to them as “PS3motes” for now on.
You can have up to 4 of these “PS3motes” connected at one time. A demonstrator at this focus group was there showing off the “PS3motes” capabilities, along with some mini-games to play. The mini games ranged from tennis, to fencing, to a “really really cool” paintball game. The demonstrator even used the “PS3mote” to play “Quake” on his laptop.
The “PS3mote” is said to be incredibly responsive and accurate. When the demonstrator crouched while playing the paintball game, the character on screen did as well. Sourceif this proves to be true, then Wii is gonna face some serious competition
