Not all Hotel81 located at Geylang althought there are atleast 3 Hotel81 at Geylang itself biggrin.gif ..All my previous trip to SG, I stayed at Hotel81-Palace (Lrg 16) which is located right at the centre of redlight district....Lotsa Ah Kua too at nite....And I don't stayed alone..I was wth my wife & daughter....So far no problem..room is tiny just like Genting 1st world BUT it is VERY CLEAN!!..I was shock on how clean the room is ..infact is is better than some 4star rated hotels in Malaysia!! ..It comes wth free 2 Super cup mee & 2Mineral waters too..Not bad for a RM100/nite hotel.

Although notorious..but I hv no problem walking at nite in Geylang (BTW, it is abit dirty along the road there-lah..The dirtiest of all SG town)...

For ladies who dun feel secure although it is not so bad as u all imagine, u can try other Hotel81 such as the one at Beecoleen, or Chinatown - Right beside the chinatown nite market...or NiutzeXui...

The NSS choice is no doubt the best choice & have been higlighted numerous times in the older threads. This we should not argue on this biggrin.gif ...but we should not put Hotel81 & Fragrant group into big shame although some located in the middle of red light districts....Not all Hotel81 or even Fragrant group are in Geylang.... biggrin.gif

These are all the alternatives, hostels + YMCA & etc for budget travelers to SG who cannot afford even a 3 Star std room biggrin.gif

Nais list there rclxms.gif However on your notation as below on the private room for S$120, I hv to disagree. There are more budget hotels that offer private room wth bathroom for <S$100 after the NSS shut down..For eg..Hotel 81 Palace at Geylang, Walk-in rack rate is S60 only sumore comes wth FOC minearl waters & also 2 super cup mee. biggrin.gif ...I stayed there twice on promotional voucher I got during Singapore Tourism road show in KL..probably during Matta fair too...for RM100/room or ~$s45/room.

QUOTE(pilotHans @ Feb 17 2009, 09:44 AM)

so where do u sleep when u r in singapore?

5) if you want a private room , cheapest is SGD120 with attached bathroom....cheaper then then non attach bathroom.....

Hehe...ehhh actually Hotel81 Palace located in the centre of those Kinky activities..Lrg16 Geylang blush.gif ..Nevertheless it's clean infact the room is even cleaner than some 4 star rated hotels that I hv stayed in M'sia! shocking.gif (pretty small room almost similar to 1st world hotel, Genting but cleaner) ....Occasionally u do see some rich man bringing young girls to the hotel blush.gif

Well, for me no problem...can wash eye sumore drool.gif

QUOTE(pilotHans @ Feb 17 2009, 11:01 AM)

Depending on which area u wanted to go, the most convenient hotel81 is located beside the Chinatown MRT station. But not cheap. Hotel81 is the cheapest but abit far from MRT (U need to walk ~1.5Km away fro MRT) or else u can take any bus beside the 7-11 on main geylang street

Almost everywhere..whichever malls u can find in SG..

Things that cheaper than Malaysia:

1) IKEA - since virtually tax free, u can get cheaper ikea products in SG
2) Nissin /Koka instant noodles..Those noodles mfg in SG - Super cheap! Only S$1.80 for 5 compare to RM7+ in MY
3) Those imported clothings & during sales
4) Almost all electronics (Not Computers), LCD TV, HIFI sets, GPS, h/phone, Cameras, & etc...atleast 5-10% cheaper than Malaysia

Things that are almost similar of more expensive than Malaysia:

1) All imported essential from Malaysia! such as Milo/ snacks/ sundries/ maggi/ oldtown, mineral water & etc
2) All clothings imported from Malaysia
3) Computers & IT related accessories (Almost similar pricing)
4) Food...u will be paying atleast 30-50% more than M'sia. but this rate reducing by year bcos SG inflation rate not so bad compare to M'sia...Chicken rice u can get S$2 only in SG!! even 10 years ago, Chicken rice ~S$2:50!! Nasi lemak wth ayam rendang sometime only S$1:80!! almost similar to KL!!

QUOTE(ychwang @ Feb 22 2009, 10:59 PM)

The currency xchange got nothing to do wth the actual rpcie of certian goods in SG...U will be suprise lotsa things cheaper in SG compare to M'sia! One of it..electronics.. biggrin.gif

Furthermore, Common hawker food pricing is either stagnant or deflated for years compare to the ever increasing pricing in M'sia....u still can get S$1.50 nasi lemak or a S$2 chicken rice in SG shocking.gif

QUOTE(billneedme @ Feb 25 2009, 05:12 PM)

Accomodation of less than S$30 is very difficult unless those hostels wth shared mormitory or beds. I saw few smaller hostel using those restored pre-war buildings at the bck of Tekka (Little India)...Price start from S$25 onwards...probably u can google hostel in Singapore. The cheapest budget hotels wth proper attached bathroom & ensuite normally start from S$40 (Hotel 81 Palace at geyland)...Very clean & nice hotel..better than Genting 1st world...except the location...Right in the middle of red light district...but can cuci mata

Added on June 17, 2009, 10:31 amWell the cheapest hotel is at Geylang..Elsewhere hard to find S$50 hotels. The red light district although the dirtiest in SG but still clean if u compare to KL ..infact cleaner than the backlane between Sg Wang & Imbi plaza..hehe..

Sumore boleh cuci mata..mind u I stayed there together wth wife & daughter!

QUOTE(raist86 @ Jun 17 2009, 12:15 AM)
Going to singapore on 3rd week of august for a 3d2n trip. Any place can recommend to stay? going with GF so if can, wanna stay away from those red light district.
Going on a tight budget as we'll be spending most of our time exploring the city and the rooms are just for sleeping. Budget around SGD 50 per night for rooms.

For budget & clean hotels, Yeah..Hotel81 & Gragrant groups..lotsa them in Geylang.. My favourite = Hotel81 Palace at Lorong16...super clean but room abit small similar to Genting first world...RM100/nite nia rclxms.gif ..But Lrg16 very lively at nite wan..lotsa Ah Kua &...ahemmmm

The hawker ctr in front of Shell Lrg 16..very good place to cuci mata drool.gif

Geylang can cuci Ah Kua mata wan biggrin.gif ..Esp in front of Hotel81 Palace Lrg 16!...The hawker ctr in front of Shell Lrg 16 is my fav breakfast & supper spot....

@AmiTsun....Yeap agreed that some B&B actually much cleaner & offer better service than so called budget hotels that not really budget esp in SG!...Hotel81 has also increase their rate since my l;ast stay..now avg S$70 liao ~ Geylang whereas previously I can get S$45 nia!!...Cheap & clean B&B available ~ Little India..but too bad I dun have the list..probably visit hostelworld.com hmm.gif ....I Most of my past 1 yr traveling on budget I stayed at B&B wth attached bathroom...The only disadvantage - U need to go down / or go to the common lobby to watch TV or breakfast.

QUOTE(ahjames @ Oct 1 2009, 08:46 AM)
trust me that will not happen.

u better off cuci mata in bugis junction , geylang is not a cuci mata place.

You mention backpacker hotel mah Backpacker hotels = Hostel or B&B leh..As Ami Tsun mentioned & my personal experience on backpecker hostel/Inn/motel & B&B in Siem Riep & Semporna within this year...It';s actually not bad. Cleaner than normal hotels

OPtherwise, youi can try Hotel 81 or gragrant hotels as I posted the link earlier..They are HOTEL.. & not so expensive...Hotel81..my famous hotel in Singapore is only RM100 2 yrs ago..althgough the listed/rack price is S$60 ..u can nego till S$50 for walk-in..they do have hourly rate...Teh Backpacker Inns/motel cleaner bcos no hanky panky..budget hotel like fragrant/Hotel81 ada punya but still clean lah..

U can bargain wth them or compare wth hotel booking websites such as agoda, asiaroom & more for cheaper option...If I can get S$45 for a rack rated S$60 Hotel81 Palace, for sure u can get better rate..But staying at those Geyland hotels, the only problem is walking to the nearest MRT at Aljunied...1.3km from Lrg 16...Going no prob but cumin back sakit kaki after whole day walking!!

Hotel81 palace is very clean sumore free..Super cup noodles & Newater..ehh Hotel81 mineral water..!!..The cleaninest suprise me as it's cleaner than 4star rated Swiuss garden in M'sia!!..Oh forgotten..for those driving in--- Got free parking inside the hotel... rclxms.gif

Actually I got it from their promotion booth during their Singapore fair in 1U...but after checking from Asiarooms...(At that point of time)...It's also ~US$30 or RM105 nia...try searching at Agoda & Asiarooms

Checked...Asiaroom now offer US$34 for Hotel81 Palace or RM120/nite or S$50m now...can grab liao:

http://www.asiarooms.com/singapore/singapo...l81_palace.html

Another Agoda offering Hotel 81 at lrg 14...US$29 nia..lagi cheap!!
