hey guys..if you all are going to singapore, do visit the heartland shopping centres.munlike the city areas, they are less crowded and they sell clothes n other stuff at a considerably cheaper price than those at the city areas. for exapmle.mdo visit TAMPINES 1, CENTURY SQUARE and TAMPINES MALL...these malls sell the same kinds of brands n variety that you can find at orchard n bugis..and its also quite lively at night and on weekends....as a local, i feel places like orchard and bugis have become too touristed...makan at those places..especially orchard is damn expensive..for eg, in Orchard, a plate of nasi padang can cost you up to 7 sgd while in the residential areas aka heartland areas, it costs only 3 to 5 dollars..

hi overbooste...here is the best list of attractions i can think of besides Sentosa n USS:
1) Singapore zoo...this animal kingdom has 2 main attractions, the zoo itself and the night safari. another attractiom would be the river safari..however that is still in the works.
2) Birdpark..this is located at jurong.
3) Singapore flyer....you can take in the sights of singapore by going for a 30 min spin in this giant sized ferris wheel...recommended is to go at night as the night scenery is very beautiful.
4) Gardens by the bay...this newly opened garden has lots of open space for leisurely walks..but take care as it can get quite hot in the day. you can also visit flower dome and the rainforest dome located within the garden for a fee of 12 dollars for each dome. The domes are air conditioned and the flower domes boasts alot of flowers imported from overseas. Rest assured..the domes are very huge n will take at least an hour to explore them.
5) Mount faber...visit this area at night to take in the night time lightings of the entire Singapore..below this area is a restoran selling laksa steamboat.
6) Shopping...the usuals are Orchard...raffles place...suntec city..bugis..vivo city...many variety of clothes n stuff..but comes at a high price...for IT stuff...u can try Funan IT mall and Sim Lim Square. BUT....browse thru the various stores first if u wana buy IT stuff...these stores sell IT products at tourist prices. Best bet is to get your IT stuff from this superstore called CHALLENGER...has a few stores located around Singapore.
6) Residential area shopping malls....for a taste of.local singaporean life..do visit the reaidential shopping malls and shophouses.located in the residential areas. the shopping malls arent as big as the town area malls..but they sell just about the same stuff as the town area n are cheaper as well..recommended, TAMPINES 1...CENTURY SQUARE...TAMPINES MALL...JURONG POINT...PARKWAY PARADE.
6) MAKAN....Food wise...try not to makan at the town areas especially Orchard as the food is expensive; for example at Orchard, a plate of mixed vegetable rice costs 9 dollars..try the kopitiams at the residential areas...good n tasty food n reasonable prices...
7) WHERE TO.STAY.....i recommend HOTEL 81...cheap budget hotel, but rooms are clean n spacious...comes with toilet..air con n hot n cold showers too..
8) TRANSPORTATION...Singapores attractions n shopping n residential areas are conncected by train n bus...try to avoid the teksi as they sometimes.overcharge u by bringing you on long routes...unless necessary..try not to take teksi..the bus n train are safe..efficient n reliable..n they cannot KUTUK yoh unlike those alibaba teksi enciks...hope this helps...feel free to msg me if you need anymore info...CHEERS =)

wow! thanks for the info bigblackball  thumbup.gif

i don't think can finish visit all the places in two days  biggrin.gif

anyway which area of hotel 81 do u recommend?

Hi Overbooste....please find attached below, the HOTEL 81 website. I recommend staying at the HOTEL 81 located at the town area as it is centralized to the attractions...do avoid the HOTEL 81s at Geylang or Joo Chiat as these are near the red light districts and are usually filled with seedy people. The polis do occassionally raid those areas for the you know lar "ayam' that is "haram" meaning those with no proper work permits.

http://www.hotel81.com.sg/

as for those places i mentioned in the earlier post...you can decide when you arrive....it is actually possible to visit within 2 days as it is very well connected by public transport..especially the MRT or MASS RAPID TRANSIT train network....

Another thing i forgot to mention.......FOR MAKAN, PLEASE AVOID THESE 2 TOURISTED FOOD CENTRE; 1) NEWTON CIRCLE and 2) LAU PA SAT, they sell food at exorbitant prices..imagine, $200 dollars for prawns......and the food is lacking quality, they are selling the food just for the sake of selling..no heart goes into the preparation of the food......

Betul, i am from Singapore. The reason i say all those information is because there is more to Singapore than all the touristed areas like Orchard, Sentosa or Universal Studios, to experience the real Singaporean life, you have to journey to the heartlands (areas where the local people live), it is there that you can really experience the REAL Singapore. Weather OUGHT to be fine, OUGHT because lately, the weather is abit unpredictable, so bring along an unbrella, just in case....but here, dont have to worry too much, cuz nowadays, most of the areas are connected by covered walkways.....

I hope you have fun during your visit here.....

Thank You,

BIGBLACKBALL
