While you are playing Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion you might feel disappointed where you realized cant fight on horse backs. Perhaps you love medieval settings, but dont like the fantasy and magic settings. Or perhaps you might feel tired where you just taking control of yourself, instead of massive army that will do your bidding.

Personally i tried the demo, and i really like this game, so decided to show you all this great game.

My fellows forumers, let me present to you, the unofficial Oblivion killer, MOUNT & BLADE

-Massive combat with more than 200 NPC clash in wide battlefields!

How's this compared to Total War? Or is it a totally different type of game? The website didn't really give much information bout the game genre =d

Graphic look okay and I don't mind it IF I CAN REALLY TAKE PART IN A BATTLEFIELD OF 200 NPCS.

Downloading the game now
Which is suprising it is full and not demo
Although it has a level limit set in it

M&B is actually an RPG, which mean you cant actually ctrl your troops via RTS style...however you can issue simple conmmand like "charge!", "hold position" or "follow me!" while you are among your troops in the battlefield.

Already bought the game when it was still in development, so got it much cheaper. tongue.gif

Maybe update the screenshots? The graphics got an upgrade since then, and there's even HDR and graphical enhancement mods out.

yeah the old screens kinda dated so i posted 2 newer screenshots from the official site. Too bad i dont have the hdd space for the graphical enhancement mod, but the game looks great when you fight with massive army and the game still runs smooth.

Edit: have you check out the Warband GDC presentation? the visual improvement is awesome

I did mt first bigger battles today and it was pretty fun doing sieges.

It's a bit of a mess when you attack a castle coz the AI troops all want to rush the top of the walls at the same time, they even pushed me out of the assault tower ramps few times by rushing in.

But it still quite fun and impressive, definitely the best castles assaults I have seen in a RPG, you can really feel how archers were powerful in defense and how the walls and everything were planned to help the defense (crossfire and all).

The heroes that accompany you can be a pain to handle because they can dislike each other and will complain if you have them in the same party, but overall it's nice to see your troops going from farmers to heavy cavalry with experience.

(and shameless bump!)

From what I can see the main graphical enhancement package is now under upgrade from version 2.5 to 3,

So they closed down the 2.5 on the main site, but the 3 is not out yet.

I have found the main components of the 2.5 here:

HDR effects

Resources (not totally sure what this one does, but seems necessary)

Bigger Textures

I am downloading them at the moment and will see how it goes.

Edit: installed them, it does improve the graphisms by quite a bit, textures are more detailes, more grass (even though the grass has bit heavy clipping) etc.
I get an error when quitting the game now though but seems it's known issue. No other issue found so far, seems good stuff smile.gif

heheh thanks for the bump.

For the problem in sieges you could try this mod. It adds more ladders!
http://forums.taleworlds.net/index.php/topic,57569.0.html

Also this mod is essential: Let you scale the number of combatants in the battlefield over the preset limit!
http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,8058.0.html

So you can scale it to epic proportion, and the textures and models can take a back seat while you awe at the 1k soldiers clashing in real time!

Ha thanks for the DAL mod, seems interesting, I will try it out to compare with the GE2.5, it made the game a bit too "dark", harder to see details on the game.

And that Realm mod seems very big!

The DAL graphism pack is not bad too actually, changed quite a lot of the textures to different or nicer ones, some of the normal units look pretty badass now tongue.gif

Now I think I am going to have to start a war, the kingdom to which I am vassal-ized has been in peace for quite a long time... and it's just boring tongue.gif
The King is a friend now so I prefer start a new war with this one instead of leaving for another kingdom.

I have started really combating on horse only now, and I LOVE the mechanics of the lance/polearm damage on horse, at least if I understand them properly.
From what I understand it takes into account the RELATIVE speed between you and your target to calculate the damage you do. This is amazing and totally realistic because:

- If both you and your enemy stand still, you do almost no damage with the lance (long lances are too heavy to be used without the inertia of a running horse + too long for close combat anyway)

- If you go fast against a trooper or still enemies you do good damage (it one shot most normal non-heavy armored unit if good hit)

- If you run behind a horse with almost the same speed as you, you will do almost no damage (since your relative speed with the enemy is almost null)

- Now if you do real knight fight, both horse running max towards each other, it's a one shot thing for sure if it touches (since your relative speed is basically your speed + the enemy speed) tongue.gif

I was totally baffled when i saw they really put that into the game, by far the best mounted fights mechanism I have seen notworthy.gif
