Installation

Installing the OCZ Vendetta 2 on a Socket 775 motherboard is not that difficult as it use the push pins to attach the cooler to the motherboard. The only part that would take some time would be to attach the anti-vibration rubber fastener to the fan and to attach the fan to the cooler. Other than that, the installation was pretty easy.

OCZ provide it's own thermal grease but to my disappointment, they didn't include the OCZ freeze with it. It should be great to have those bundled in together.





The cooler sits firmly on the motherboard inside the casing.

Test setup & Procedures

Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R Rev 1.1 F8 BIOS
CPU Default - Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 @ 2.66Ghz (G0 stepping)
Ram - Kingston Value RAM DDR2 667Mhz 4GB Kit
Video Card - Geforce 8800GTS G80
Hard Drive - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB (16MB Cache)
Cooling - OCZ Vendetta 2, and Thermaltake MaxOrb CPU Cooler
PSU - Silverstone Strider ST56F 560Watts Rev 3.0
Casing - Cooler Master Centurion 5 with Silverstone FM123 exhaust.
OS - Windows XP SP2

1. The temperature will be monitor using Core Temp at idle and at full load
2. Load test were run using OCCT for 30 minutes.
3. Tuniq TX-2 thermal paste will be used for all the test.

OCZ Vendetta 2

Verdict

The OCZ Vendetta 2 proves to be a decent air cooler in the market. The results obtain was pretty good although I'm expecting the load temperature to be below 70C. On idle for both stock and overclocked state, it seems to be cooler than the MaxOrb and shows its superiority over the latter. When the E6750 is overclocked at 3.6Ghz with 1.472 VCore, the Vendetta 2 proves to be a clear cut winner over the MaxOrb. But from my personal view, the results was far from impressive as it was not being able to prove a really huge drop on the temperature on full load. Looking at the design of the Vendetta 2, the result should be more significant. The result that was obtain here does not justify the Vendetta 2 as the king of air cooling. All in all, the Vendetta 2 would be a decent cooler and should be able to cool off the temperature of your overclocked processor.

Strengths

1. The cooling performance was better on load than the MaxOrb.
2. Light weight.
3. Silent fan operation.
4. HDT design.
5. Worth the price.

Weaknesses

1. Uneven base surface.
2. No OCZ Freeze included.
3. Anti-vibration rubber installation ain't that easy.

btw, it look really alike with the xigmatek s1283. even the stock thermal paste look alike with the one xigmatek provide.

Tnx, mate. I was hoping getting a better thermal paste though. Something like what Zalman provides with their cooler. OCZ Freeze should be a great bundle. Unlikely they didn't put it in. Otherwise could do a review based on that thermal paste too.

Wouldn't hope to get something from that. Could the copper be that fragile until it cracked?

after 2 phase of lapping..its thin already..no wonder it became so fragile...

i think OCZ purposely make it not even for the surface just like the bowed apogee gt or slightly bow design of d-tek fuzion block... more contact with intel socket 775 proc which have a concave IHS... i think even thermalright heatsink nowadays also got the bowed bottom surface... mayb provide better pressure + contact onto the CPU IHS, especially the lga775 proc...

holy cow. that pic scare me bro. luckily that day i lap my hsf, that didnt happen. btw, he start off with 400 grit which i think its too coarse for a direct heat pipe kind of hsf.

i can lent u my red scorpion if u like to compare it with ur OCZ~~

i think no point comparing coz its the same thing imo. maybe the spec of the fan may be different but other that than, it seems quite similar to the RS.

Yup, it almost the same with the Vendetta having a lil' bit more surface area for heat dissipation. I'd love to add the comparison between the Vendetta 2 and the Red Scorpion. We'll see how it goes, if not later sup3rfly might do the comparison.
