I'm only form 4 this year but I'm already interested in taking a course in the One Academy after my SPM.

Is the one gallery open to all visitors? What is their opening session? Is it inside the One Academy campus?

To KeithCheeFB :

Oh sure, thanks! Next week is a school holiday, so I think I might as well check it out since I'll be free at that time tongue.gif

To eekang :

Yeah thanks for advising me, but no worries, I won't forget my studies too. I'm just a little ambitious that's all rclxm9.gif
I've been thinking of going into TOA since form 3! Haha, I even entered the Creative Media Award competition last year so that I could get myself a scholarship, and this year I might too!

So DarkSilver, does the 'art sense' really applies or have any impact throughout one's coursework, whether one is working outside or just doing some small work at home?

And well, the way you mentioned about the One Academy's courses in comparison with other colleges & the fact of accentuating artistic sense, you sounded like it was serious.

'TOA sees money opens eyes', wow that's a phrase but do they do this all the time? I heard certain students failed their foundation course and they re-took it again and again, is it true?

Oh yeah, about what you were expecting about TOA, at least it has another 'real' campus in Pinang. But maybe you were more about the base 'campus', right?

Is anyone here going for the Toy Story 3 seminar?

You know, I still can't believe they have a special secondary students-seminar in the klang valley! I can't wait to go there, along with my teacher and bro on the 11th august in Sunway!! tongue.gif icon_idea.gif

the pixar toy story 3 talk is just damn awesome
*
Yeah, it's great that the some of the Pixar's crew come all the way from US to small little country- MY just to give us an awesome talk about their animation!

Well, there are two other talks right? Masterclass and college students' seminar in Bukit Jalil.

I started photoshop when I was in Form 1 actually xD

Lol haha!

Wow, you're probably all that experienced after those years of using photoshop. Still, you're thinking of pursuing an animation career right?

And....what tips can you give to a beginner like me in using photoshop? tongue.gif

Learning the technical stuff of softwares is one thing, the most important thing about being an artist is having that eye for details.

Watch movies like Toy Story 3 for example, look hard at the lighting & mood, the animation, the modeling and so on. Train your observation, do life drawing and etc.

That's the only tips I can think of right now. XD
*
Hey, that's a good one. rclxms.gif

I notice about all this when I started loving animation... but I guess it will take time for me to do all that, and right now to focus on my studies... rclxub.gif

Tutorials help but yeah I usually mess around with stuff =x
I mainly use photoshop for siggys so.. yeah >.>
Yup Xiven has a point there.. I can only draw chibis but not life size humans :l
Details.. the more intense the more +_+ but never overdo it with too much of one thing and too less of another imo >.>
Jyjy tongue.gif same boat here too
*
Yeah true, but I wonder... have you tried other form of arts, like typography or something crafty? tongue.gif
I heard that you need to get a little artistic in the foundation years in TOA.

QUOTE(Xiven @ Aug 18 2010, 06:20 AM)
I used to take classes for softwares in form 1 to form 2, classes like flash, photoshop and dreamweaver.

I also used to make alot of graphics with photoshop around then, here's a link I loved visiting back then when making siggies and such. =D

http://www.good-tutorials.com/tutorials/photoshop

On the details, it really depends what you wanna show, there is no right or wrong in art afterall. =)
*
Wow, so back then those classes you took are probably free? I didn't know schools offer those kind of classes...

I guess I'm not that kind of technical person as I didn't really know about photoshop & things like that until form 4.

Mostly what I did was drawing or doing art the way it's done traditionally, but I seriously didn't think about the good stuff about doing it digitally, Layers...hmmm whistling.gif nod.gif

@Milkshake
Hey, that's a good initiative, so you're interested in gaining some insight knowledge about traditional sculpting and basic arts before venturing into digital sculpting? But I've never heard of individual course involving only art of sculpting unless you're mentioning about taking short courses...

That means they've changed the syllabus?

Man, I was expecting that DG students get to learn a whole lot of things and not just centered on something like specialisation?
Why did they do that?

Because its too difficult for one person to apprehend the complete CGI, a real production studio hire according to ability to fill designated position.

Oh blink.gif ...

but do we still get to be exposed to all production since they might not delve further into it?

There's no good or bad actually. Depending on what you want.
Because in a CGI Production, it's not 1 man show. There's a group of people who do Modeling, a group of people will do Shader, a group of people will do Concept Art, a group of people will do Animation and there's still a lot to mention. LOL.

Last time, TOA taught everything(almost) of a CGI Production to DG course. However, now, they split them into smaller details already.
While each student only focus on the one they like only. This is good in term of one will have very strong and hardcore POWAH in their specific field.
*
Wow, so it's considered good for new intakers?

But still, no one has answered me if they'd actually expose us to all of the fields in animation production, just like other courses in the US?

There is never a such thing as "you can't learn much things", I am still in the old syllabus, but that never stopped us from specializing in where our interests are and also learning beyond that. Really la, lecturers are there to guide us and help us when we face technical issues, other than that you are on your own de.

For those going through the new syllabus now, good luck la, you are officially TOA's guinea pigs.

No tongue.gif why must we be guinea pigs ?

The ones who are guinea pigs now are the ones going through the new syllabus in TOA, like, this term itself. Afterall it isn't fully refined yet.
*
Well, so they'll most likely to consider it into the syllabus once the current batch goes through their 'testing'?

Do they usually do this for other courses too?

Sorry guys if I have led this question out of topic, but may I ask something?

It's been bothering me and a teacher of mine kept advising about holding on to Physics instead of dropping it...

Is it necessary for animators to learn SPM-level physics? I don't really see why strings of equations are needed for animation, of course maybe animation has their own type of 'physics'.

Would you suggest what subjects is appropriate or necessary and which are not? I'm gonna drop Physics AND take up Art, is it okay?

Thanks for reading this! tongue.gif

Thanks for the reply, I guess I can safely tell my teacher that Physics isn't a necessary subs for animation anyway tongue.gif

And...what about maths or add maths? Do you guys use some of those? rolleyes.gif
