I've got a friend who sent his epiphone les paul for servicing and after getting it back he's pissed the tone is not like it used to be, less warmth.
He wants to know how to tell besides the tone, to check if his pickup has been tampered/swapped.
The tech he sent his guitar to for servicing is notorious for swapping out good pickups from the client's and replacing it with cheap stuff that sounds bad.
He wants some telltale signs but I've never actually seen a real epiphone up close inside so I can only give some ideas such as
1. Soldering points in the pickup, if fresh, you know they've been touched. 2. ???
The other thing he wants to know if there're any replacement parts to order for the epiphone since he dropped the guitar and cracked the neck before and found it hard to keep it in tune since.
I told him he'll probably only be able to order parts through an authorised dealer since all the electric guitar companies will never simply allow anyone to order the parts because this would result in unauthorized customs that may either be sold too cheaply without proper QC or poor quality stuff that will jeopardise their brand names.
What/where to order parts for epiphone? I think the nearest he could get from is Singapore's sweelee since they're gibson dealers but should do epiphone as well.
For Malaysia esp JB, where else can get the parts?

The shop closed down already, in JB, is the Z-music or something, walking distance where I used to stay. Owner is a Singaporean, went back to Singapore already. Every shop selling guitar I've been to in JB warns me about this shop. Even people who bought up his used gear are pissed off because parts in the amps were knicked off before he sold it to the new buyer when he cleared the stocks.

QUOTE(Rossie @ May 16 2008, 05:21 PM) Yup, closed down already. No more place to jam. But my friend plans to setup another jamming studio around the same area soon.

Oh... I know that place... That's Zat Studio... Pronounced as Zack Studio...
Pretty decent place lar... But never knew that they did business like that...
If you want to get Gibson parts (Epiphone doesn't make parts)... You can try Holiday Plaza's Yong Li or Century Garden's Hop Music...
