moo.... Moo..... Welcome to the grass eaters club. I decided to open to all LYN Forumers.

The question is, what r u saving up for? What's the next piece of equipment you are getting or planning to get?

I'm eating grass due to my recent purchase of an 135 f2

What about u?

If complait too short, there is 100-400 IS L. Its quality at 400mm wide open really not bad. I will write a review on it when I have time. thumbup.gif

And potrait with 300 f2.8 on FF will give really impressive result! thumbup.gif

Why not get 135mm F2? Cheaper and maybe perform better as well. Downside is no flexibility to zoom.

I prefer megi, grass is farrrrrrrrrrrrr to healthy... brows.gif

For me, I have humble dreams (and thus the neverending megi buffet):

28mm f2.8 Minolta, 100mm f2 Minolta (or the 135mm f2.8 Minolta), 28-75mm Minolta or Tamron (or 28-70mm Sigma), Cosina 100mm f3.5 Macro, 10-35mm Tamron (when it comes out), Beercan, 17-70 f2.8-f4.5 Sigma, and (if I'm crazy enough to SELL MY CAR + EAT MORE MEGI) 135mm Minolta STF.

That should be enough alredi to keep me happy for a loooooooooooooooong, looooooooooooong time... brows.gif

What, no G or CZ lenses? Said alredi I wanted to roam the world with "affordable" lenses... brows.gif

WARNING : grass eating is not healthy. smile.gif LYN shall not be responsible for any health condition that may arise from such practices.

that said - not saving up for anything. not eating grass either. come to think of it, a macro lens and a fish-eye lens would be next. and perhaps a better tele lens like some 70-200.

all are not priority. so no grass eating. smile.gif not willing to sacrifice health for gears.

I'm currently saving for a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8, BG-E3 with an extra battery and 580EX ll. All in I think about 3.5- 4K? I would be able to afford it in about 8 months time if it's not for the loan commitment I took up for my Kancil. sad.gif

On the long run I would like to have a 70-200mm f2.8 IS USM. biggrin.gif

doesn't seem like a gd purchase since u alry have a 18-55mm??

The kit lens is not up to par with the 16-85. Totally different class. Moreover, read that the sharpness of the 16-85 is shocking.gif

ALso the 85mm gives me some additional reach from what I have now without sacrificing the picture quality as what a 18-200mm would bring.

Hurr, i wan newer tripod setup as i start my foray into "stealth" strobing which involves hidden flashes to light up street shots remotely. Necessary evil, and my old 804RC head is getting extremely hard to setup due to the weight and the 3 way design.

Yesh, I am Muslim and it seems that Aussies think my name is awesome due to it's length. Mohd Syafiq Aizat bin Mohd Yusof Manan. My new Ostolia name is Syafiq A Yusof. Although they still get it wrong, calling me Syefiq, Fyefiq, Syarfeek and other wrongly understood names. It isn't too bad though, even my father can't spell my name anyways .

Haha, the only ZF i have is the 50mm 1.4, nearly all my close shots are done with 50mm. The lense is as sharp as knife and the details are seriously awesome. Also have the Summicron and L in my 50mm arsenal, probably will just get more 50mm lenses.

Me no go MF, i prefer SLRs for my general work and for my focus area i lean towards rangefinders. No hassies, leafs or fujis for me, unless someone finds a way to cram them into the size of a 5D or something tongue.gif

Be warn that Canon 100mm f2.8 macro is not an L lense. For first few years everything will go fine... until all your collection are L lenses, then you feel something missing from the macro lense. Nothing wrong with the image quality thought.... Just it is not L.... tongue.gif

To most people surprise... I found the 180L to be hunting in low light! Camera used is 30D. Maybe due to f3.5 which is optimised for macro... maybe...

This is also one of the few Canon lenses that I have little experinces... Anyone mind to let me one to play? notworthy.gif

Grass is too expensive for me tongue.gif

I want a 70-200 f2.8, a D300 and a 10-20 or 11-16 lens. Just 10K plus altogether.

Eat air, not grass.

Update: Oops, forgot I want a 85mm f1.4 too.

I used to have the 10-22. The performance is ok... But because it is not L, it does not have L built nor L color. Thus the color rendering quality is just like other 3rd party or other competitor offering... I mean normal color la... Maybe a CPL can enchance the color lo...

It is why if you have the cash, go FF and get 17-40L. At least still enjoy L color that can show off... icon_rolleyes.gif

I thought normally those with FF would go for the 16-35mm f/2.8 L lens? I have seen quite a number of them being used because of the F/2.8 and also the wide area covered smile.gif

Reason are simple... 17-40 is only RM2500... and easily get used one at RM2k or even less

While 16-35 II got no used unit... Price I think RM5000+ You think cheap ar? sweat.gif

The additional RM3k can buy another great lense like 135L already.

For wide angle, personally I do not need f2.8. Even constant f5.6 also enought makan for me... for my standard la.. laugh.gif

So to me, the only different for the prices is only 1mm.... which I think can close one eye la... Unless you are as rich as empire23 la... than get the 16-35! thumbup.gif

17mm is not the wide angle that will suffice my need, simply not wide enough..and one thing having 17-40L would be redundant to my 24-70L. i guess sometimes we need to scarifies a bit of quality to have better setup doh.gif

I tried the 16-85 IS before. Didn't really like it.

Not really much longer than the kitlens for the price and performance is only so-so.

sell.. sell.. sell..

Hmm.. I wonder how come I'm still keeping my kitlens.
perhaps for the 18mm wide angle over my 24mm

Added on May 15, 2008, 8:15 pm35mm L = USD 1.7K only Mah..

he can afford I'm sure.

this is new......... different range, some more totally different pricing. what's so difficult?

normally people having difficulty decide - 55-250 vs 70-300.

for me the time i buy 18-200 OS, no 55-250 IS anyway. even if there was, i already have 70-300 so it's a no-brainers.

Because I am a student. Thus, saving money for lens is quite difficult. I can't get them in a week or a month.

So, it's either save for a shorter period to get 55-250 in order to get the longer zoom or save for a longer period for 18-200. I don't know.. but maybe I'm different than you guys. For me, it's either eat grass more or less. laugh.gif

Both serve me the zoom anyway.

My personal experince with Tokina 12-24 is very good. Color is solid with even sharpness across the screen. thumbup.gif

Hard to compare to 055. Althought it is an rather old tripod... more than 10 years because I was using it that time. It is indeed a fine tripod and tall enought without the center extended.

In this case, what can help to improve your situation is fitness center. Build more muscle and make the weight feel less! flex.gif

how is this lens performance? suddenly a lot of wedding photog getting it..

but from what i see the distortion is worse than Sigma 10-20, no?
*
The distortion is less compared to the Sigma 10-20 but that might be a bad thing at times as there are some shots where the use of the distortion creates a nice angle and feel to them image.

Screw tripod. Change of plans. Now eat grass for new stuff.

Now must get good pair of hiking boots from Timberland or Adidas, nice fitting gloves, a few pairs of breathable socks and maybe some tough milsurp fatigues.

Hard to compare to 055. Althought it is an rather old tripod... more than 10 years because I was using it that time. It is indeed a fine tripod and tall enought without the center extended.

In this case, what can help to improve your situation is fitness center. Build more muscle and make the weight feel less! flex.gif
Smart choice... thumbup.gif

my tripod has been with me for the past 12 years. it's still as sturdy. i can fit my whole large format and the lenses and film holders and light meter and everything into this computrekker. it is this tripod that i find it abit troublesome in carrying it.

sigh! just got to accept the fact that tripod is as important as films to me.

Just an advise, do try the lense from your friends before spending your money, especially wide open.

I do not mean anything saying the lense no good... Just try it first and if possible compare to Nikon 70-200 f2.8 VR... Then you decide. All of my friends already sold off thiers. There should be a number of unit floating in the used market now. cool2.gif

i agree with voip...
i myself skipped the nikon 85...
went to zeiss 85 then sold it off...
and got myself a zeiss 28...

from what i saw...the nikon 85 is easily beaten by the 70-200 at similar focal length...
the only advantage though is the wide aperture...=)

yeah... Right...

And with Nikon... If you want shallower DoF without 85mm prime... It is simple... Just D3 it, and with 70-200 VR, you will be able to enjoy one more stop of less DoF... comparable with D300 + 85mm, and even sharper... thumbup.gif

Just D3 it... and solve the problem. whistling.gif

??? Why? I saw great performance on D300.... thumbup.gif

D3 the 70-200 should be even better with shallower DoF right?

Anyway, I had never play the 70-200 VR on FF because as I remember the only Nikon FF is D3... And I need more people to buy D3 because I have difficulty loaning one to play... notworthy.gif

IIRC from the various charts i've seen Nikon's 70-200 2.8 is primarily optimized for a crop body (seemed like the smarter choice before the coming of the D3 due to the D2's sensor), and the Canon's version for FF. (it was released before the 1Ds Mark II IIRC)

I think given time, Nikon will reoptimize the 70-200 for FF.
