Hi All,

I'm from malacca and plan to get my blood test soon. Plan to get one of those comprehensive blood test that can include everything.
There are so many blood test lab out there such as pathlab, bplab, etc. Anyone know which of them offer the best price? Any idea how much is the comprehensive test going to cost?
Thank you in advance. Cheers.

Choose your lab carefully. As i've heard there was one lab in KL not too sure which one, they've contaminated someone's blood with someone's with AIDS and they other person thought he had aids ... went thru a few other companies and he was fine. I heard he sued that company but never heard what happen since then.

It was just last year as i recalled it

go to pathlab. their 18ks test is quite comprehensive already. if i am not mistaken, it should cost no more than 200.

as for the case of 'mishandled' blood, i think that was an isolated case as lab technicians would write your name of the test tube immediately after taking your blood.

i believe wellness lab or centers are mostly in the hospital. its just another name for health screenings.

for example, if you are from penang, you would know that adventist hospital has a wellness center. it basically is a place where you have most of your tests done in one place. its like a one stop center. of course, the price in the hospital is more expensive as they usually include stress test, chest xray and ultrasound of the abdomen.

versus the gp clinic, the gp can only have your physical exam and blood test (and pap smear for woman) done. gp usually only do the chest xray if you have a complaint. any other tests, would require you to go to another center (usually the hospital).

so, its really up to you. if you have the dough, check out the health screening packages in the hospital. it could range anywhere from 500-1000++ depending on the tests done.. average about 500-600.

i would say that pathlab have a slightly better marketing than bplab. they also have more branches in malaysia.
anyway, no harm in checking out both.

hmm... why don't you go to the nearest government clinic or hospital... it usually cost around RM30... usually those that charged for over hundred are the usually Full Medical Checkup... -->I went for a private hospital before I enter U and they overcharged on some trivial things.... and full med checkup are only useful if you had some medical conditions, never had gone into hospital for years, got a new job, go to U and ect...

plus, stick with the basic test like : X-Ray, Urine, Blood and ect if you want a health checkup... its usually offer lesser than RM400 (student package for private hospital) and even a quarter of it in government.. you don't really need to do fancy stuff if you just need the blood result...

Each labs have their strength and weakness. Besides, they also use their own terminology. It seems that both of the package almost similar but they never mention specifically what are the tumor markers which included in the package. Anyway, I don't think tumor markers are necessary to do except you have strong family history or you suspect yourself that you might have cancer. Actually, this test is more suitable for cancer patients for follow-up.

No matter which labs you go, I believe that they will ask you to do for other tests too. For instance, wellness, they have other facilities such as different parts of ultrasound, lung function test (I guest) and others. For pathlab, they basic package quite cheep but to tag-on for other tests quite expensive. Wellness has doctor explain the report for you while pathlab, only Kenala Jaya has doctor (If I'm not mistaken).

patlab comprehensive tests cost much less, not more than 300. 500-600 is either too expensive or they check for too many things

Last time, I used to go to BP HQ in Glenmarie. The report is pretty detailed and attentive. Only problem is there's no treatment for any illness and you have to go to hospital again.

So these days, I go to Sime Darby hospital to have full blood test plus ultrasonic scans, X rays and stress tests. Scan can show if you got gall or kidney stones. X rays for lungs and stress for oxygen flow. Hospitals do have doctors to intepret and recommend any treatment for you.
