for me, not only i look at the lb but also the back bone.
like you now, once you kena and landed a tomon, in future you will know what to bring

7ft - 9ft should be ok.

me no sifu lah, just started fishing not long ago.

use what you have first, at least you get a feel what is all about.invest later.
2pcs not troublesome lar.
sometime i used 9ft( 2pcs ) also while trekking to lubuk.

any 7ft should be idea for boat, your 8ft should not be a problem
