normally i just tie an o'shaug hook directly to my main line. light braided below 15lb gives best distance.

i place the hook in the middle of the slice of bread, wrap the bread around it and compress only the part of the bread at the top of the hook connected to the line. i don't compress the part towards the tip of the hook, this forms the air bubble to keep the bread floating. basically the end result looks like the pendulum lead weight..

sometimes i use variations on the method like lacing the bread with some fish pellets, dedak, or flavoring, leader for pacu, etc..

Hi all, I'm from KK, Sabah and I'm quite new into fishing
I guess mostly to take away the tension and pressure from work life! That's how i started fishing

I've still yet to learn all the terms in fishimonology, but i guess I'm doing bottom fishing now at my place in Sabah. I wonder whether got any anglers here in Sabah as I need some guidance in this. The best way to learn is from some other anglers and me and my friends are yet to find few. Of course we do ask for advice from other ppl who are fishing, but not all are willing to share it.

We recently been trying to find good spots to fish but end up in a place call Anjung Gayang near the road to Tuaran here. Entry Fee is RM3 (small pelantar jetty), RM5 (middle of the bridge) and RM10 (Floating boat-without an engine! just got anchor LOL)

I think this Saturday we will try go into the floating boat and go to the middle of the river. The river is a mixture of saltwater going into the interior so our place would mostly be saltwater fish.

I myself bought a fishing rod on promotion from local supermarket here. Feels like the reels is not that good now that I've tested it. Of course, I wouldn't want to spend too much just in case I would not be doing it often. But so far we have been going fishing almost every weekend and holidays that we get and I think it's time to get some advice here on what fishing rod and reels are recommended. I tried to ask this in a local Sabah forum but didn't get much replies or even activities there, so if got any anglers here from Sabah, do pm me if you would like to organise some trips around here in KK or other places smile.gif

I'm now looking to get a casting rod and also maybe to use as bottom fishing. Can anyone recommend me which one should I get? Things are quite hard to get in Sabah I would say (that's for the IT and other stuff), so probably let me know how to choose as well for the rod and reel?
I'm not that tall so probably something not that too long around 5.5 feet can suffice?

Plus need to know the shops recommended here and places to fish. I would like to try freshwater fishing but I don't know where to start. If anyone can give advice on this, please please do so smile.gif

Ps: I still learning what kind of fish i get last few times but Ketambak, Kerapu, and one named 'sam pan tiao' in chinese which i duno what's its called in malay... lol

bro,

casting n bottom both were totally different type of game biggrin.gif

For sea bottom i can give some advice.. usually we use damn big and heavy sinker.. eg number ranging from 12 to 32 depending on the current. Fyi size 32 were about 1 kg ++ in weight. You'll need a multiplier reel loaded with 65lb ~80lbs braid line and a rod with the rating of 10kg ~24kg. Total cost should around 1.5k-2k for a good reel and rod setup including etc accessories such as sinker, hooks, spreader, wire line, and etc etc. Oh yah do not settle down with those cheap kai chap tomman stuff.. you'll regret and keep on upgrading. Allocated 2k budget and get a reel and rod with quality such as shimano or daiwa !

bottom rod setup, a typical bottom rod length ranging from 5.6 ~ 6 feet.
bottom multiplier reel recommendation, shimano = torium, talica, tiagra or trinidad II. For Daiwa = saltist, saltiga or sealine

casting tarak sure, u can ask other sifu here.

san pan tiao should be talang in malay, in english.. queen fish if i remember correctly, very poisonous fish, consume with caution as these fish were highly toxic .. it may cause rashes all over the body if your body can't take it. Usually kampung ppl dried it to make "ham yu" biggrin.gif

Hello everyone. Was wondering if got any sifu based in Ipoh with good fishing spots to recommend? I tried to search this thread / Google but didn't find much info. FYI I'm still a fishing noob. So far only tried fishing at rivers around Ipoh (which are not very clean btw sweat.gif) and I'm thinking of moving to bigger things smile.gif

hi and thx for the tips bro

the things u recommend.. i think way over my budget. I'm not gonna go for sea fishing for now as I know the equipment will be much more expensive smile.gif

for now just a normal river/bakau bottom fishing for me would suffice. I looked around in the local shops here for these recommendations from this thread for these, but I couldn't find it. Sometimes it's not easy to get stuff here in Sabah. If anyone knows where I could buy these online and send thru postage, or a shop that can help me with this or someone that can help get these and send to me, pls let me know smile.gif
Reel : ryobi applause 2000 or ryobi excia 2500 or 3000
Rod: Berkley Cherrywood
Fenwick Eagle GT

As for the Talang Fish... didn't know it was toxic but my hand got cut from the thorns... some blood on my hands. Only when I got cut the people beside me said to be careful as they have really really sharp thorns and toxic.. bit late.. my hand got pain for like 15 minutes and it wore off.. thankfully! prolly my body didn't not get any allergies from it. Boy those were sharp thorns! It was quite painful as well..

Okay, any other advices do let me know esp how to get those stuff above..

Thx

TCE Tackles only carry their own product range so Kepong Tackle would have a wider selection. I think prices for the rods and reel you're looking for is pretty standard here(KL) regardless which shop you're purchasing them from.
