actually ampang to kepong and ampang to mirama little bit difference only la .. as long as u find the things u want it actually doesnt matter how far one .. hehehe .. especially if it is at the price u want ... hhahaahahahaa
*
mirama is less than 15km and imbi is less than 10km from my place leh. as for kepong.....if use mrr2 or jln ipoh....it is still far, can say twice the journey. but price is not that important though but if the ppl there is willing to share their tips n experience or not. if only a bit expensive than kepong, then no point cos wasted on time n petrol, right? and the guys there is willing to share n show how to set up leaders/rigs n how to fish in those 'public' pond/lake. at least i ask they explain in details......maybe i'm a noob cos only went to 2 tackle shops only.....

the things i wanted is already there.......found the rod stand there....sotong jig (as emergency la). but as u said that there is sotong jig for less than rm5, i cant seems to see it at the pandan mewah shop....i thought it was cheap but when i saw the price, it was more expensive than those for fish. but that shop most are own manufactured....cos the actual owner is also a keen fisherman, rich la so open a shop as a hobby n at the same time can get unlimited supply. some of the things are own brand as owner had one factory in china (if i'm not mistaken from what he said). and also they can lower the price as they don need to pay for rental cos the shop is owner owned. i dont talk a lot but can see how many things i learned from them.....sorry la, cos not many is willing to teach or give me some tips. so ask+google.....n learn from mistake.......beginner ma......somemore, the one who fish sleeps late.........next time if i need supply+extra knowledge, better go there on the saturday morning...hehe......

i'm here to share only.....help promote a bit cos i think not many knew that they moved here. somemore, they are really some nice folks who enjoyed fishing too...at least they will advise wat to buy n what not to buy. but i think it is better to have one shop to get the things....i mean the regular ones......maybe one day they will take me for a fishing trip (dreaming)....as for now....get a wild fish first.........haha........

**anyway, don flame me la cos jus wanna share only. i dont get a cent for promoting.....cos i also new to fishing n tat shop. maybe there are more cheaper shops but they claim they are the cheapest, i think....they wont bullshit kwar since one has fished for more than 30yrs.

haha..there's 2 fishing shop there, Fish Hunter and Sabre tackles. I guess you went to Fish Hunter and the uncle quite friendly. However their price in most stuff are expensive compared to brand model to brand model..well that is IMHO lah.. I hardly go there in fact since the hooks and other stuff are quite expensive...just go there cuci mata.

yothim,
the octo jig, is t same model sold at pandan mewah same as the model sold in Fish Hunter? there are brands and weights that determine the price  wink.gif same goes for rods, I can dig up a few cheap sea trolling rods but after u use, sure keep at the cupboard  rolleyes.gif
*
err.....he said they moved from maharajalela 3 months ago, i think the shop name is great ono (from their own brand name). but if expensive.....i dont think so la quite ok to me. i'm not sure too..but the one that i bought is cheaper than the one at pandan mewah. or maybe now it is lowered since they had their own shop already........btw, there is 2 uncle, one is the one who jaga the counter one wor? this one speaks english although he knew cantonese while the other one is a bit tan n both wear specs, right?

hmm...i'm not sure but i find it is cheaper than pandan mewah n at least friendly la. at least don have to tengok muka lor if ask more. but if fish hunter then hope that they already lower their price la....as for brand, i'm not sure cos i'm not sure about the reel/rod price but the rod that i bought n the one available there is a bit more expensive.....so i guess, i might syiok sendiri lor....sorry la. but i wil go there again though...haha......at least can learn something.......

the dam is quite deep....should have lots of weed deep there. or maybe i use dedak? wanted to use worm but tat day dunno y all shop closed...so forced to use dedak. or should i get some 'sacrifice' n pour those spareparts juice of chicken, fish or pig (sorry, how the fish is still halal) into the lake first? my fren dad said use dedak+chicken intestine n marinate for 1 day...sure lots of catfish hentam...anything to recommend?

btw, i went there on last sat morning, that place was nice...really nice. cool, windy and the best part is, no mosquito. u guys should try there...n the guards at the dam is kind enough to give some tips...haha

oh yea another huge ass patin in towfoo around 10kg

float? done that last time but got current leh...not big one but enough to wash my bobble back to me. yeah....next time will save the fish and chicken spareparts and freeze it. then when wan, take out n then use hang it on the side n let the scent out...haha.......

QUOTE(hamster9 @ Dec 1 2009, 10:59 AM)
haruan dun eat dedak for sure... try casting frogs...

if the dam is deep, no point rasuah...chicken intestine does work fine for catfish but they are always at the bottom.. does ur bait reach to the bottom of the pond?

here's a preview on the semenyih dam results on 15 nov

actually i don target haruan cos didnt prepare leh. suddenly got to work on friday n when i reach home, all shop closed....haii....yeah, i will cast the frog liao. as for the supply, i can get from my uncle since he got a arowana to feed. btw, i can just tie it to the hook right? cos a bit 'messy' later if cucuk.....yeah, reach bottom.....even the uncle nearby oso but no luck. that semenyih is damn huge....n this guy fish in the middle leh...of course got chance la...can do the trolling...i am at the bank.....

getting fish not depend on boat or not..is how ur present ur bait to t fish  thumbup.gif

hey, if i'm not mistaken there are only less than 3 safe location to do a landcasting without having to launch the boat. for this, i think this guy launch a boat n land at some place n then fish....can consider as the middle of the lake. the place i fish is nearly at the end there. next round i'll buy some katak already.....if don eat then really have to pray la.....

guys/girls, damn quiet leh here. btw anyone knew where i can get the berkley scent spray? got ar at the pandan mewah tackle shop? plan to get it la instead of those live baits....and how much it cost? wanna use those things liao cos every time buy live bait also cant finish it and waste money...maybe this will be cheaper than live bait....

Added on December 18, 2009, 11:12 pmwent to sabre tackle today, not bad but all are branded things and i think there is no china things. in the end, spend more than rm100 for 2 lures, 1 braided lines, berkley gulp and swivels. cheaper than the one that i frequent if compare with the same item by few ringgit.

lots soft/hard plastic occupies more than half the showroom but no rapala but most caters seafishing. and at the same time, make a new friend and exchanged numbers. will ask me to tag along on his fishing trip...hehe.......

daiwa, shimano or abu garcia? the abu model i'm eyeing is revo stx which is rm495, quite nice but i met one guy who fish for nearly 2 decades (not the seller la) and he said i should consider to get good one if plan for a long term ones and slowly pick up on it. so, any recommendations on the reel? hehe......the guy tat i met, he is using 1st generation of shimano antares which is more than 2k 10 yrs ago and still using it until now. so guys/girls.....opinions!! thanks

shop around .. look and feel the reels
find one that makes u feel comfortable
buy the best u can afford ... the high end reels performance are about the same between brands
the revo stx is a great reel btw ..
*
hey QiW, besides abu, what about daiwa or shimano? anything around that price? i'm planning to get the reel first...as for rod, will get it another time...hehe...don wan to spend so much at one time. i found that shimano website got a lot more details on their reel but abu is more on the schematics only and nothing much to explain some of the reel parts. not sure about the maintenance leh....

as mentioned earlier ...
performance and maintenance ... all oso about the same for the good well known reputable branded products ie.shimano daiwa etc etc
most important thing is how the REEL FEELS IN YOUR HANDS .. u can have a super high performance super multiplier guarantee fish etc etc reel .. but if u dont like the feeling of it in your hand or it is not comfortable then it defeats the purpose ... get what i am trying to say ??

as for parts ... those large tackle shops that sells the brand u buy normally will have aftersales services ie.order parts for u or send back to factory if necessary
*
understand but what i meant is that, would recommend me some few other models from daiwa/shimano so that i can check the things first before getting it. sorry la bro...just learning only. the abu, i had tried it and it was superlight and like the feel but wanna try to see how other models are in the price range.

btw, is rm495 for revo stx a good bargain? can still negotiate, any place cheaper? thanks

hmm...not sure leh, some intro abu and some intro shimano. my budget is just medium only.......good ones will wait till i'm good at it cos no matter how good the reel, i still cant appreciate it yet.

u mentioned u want something long lasting, thus suggesting u inshore coz can play both fresh and saltwater. again, if u din wash ur reel after saltwater fishing, any reel would die.

abu, shimano..it's like comparing ermm...Toyota and Chevrolet..Some models are good and some are not. Till now, there's no perfect reel..I may say it's nice, you might not feel as nice. Thus selecting reels are really subjective. Abu, Shimano, Daiwa have quality low profile baitcasting reels. it's up to the user to feel it.

I would agree with Sifu Q on the feel. Have the reel set up with the rod (usually in tackle show they allow u to do that) then hold the reel in a casting manner.. does it feel good in your hands? some may b too small, some too big. For me, I hate Revo Toro since it's too bulky on my hands.
*
ok lor, no need to ask. i already ordered the revo stx (left sided) and will arrive soon. haha.....take this one first and if next time ok, will upgrade lor. btw, how u all choose the baitcast reel? i felt that it is different from spinning reel. i'm using left hand to reel in the spinning reel but when i hold baitcast reel, i felt that it is nicer to use the right hand to reel in. any opinion?

i'm buying the reel first then will get the rod from expert graphite......haha.......feels nice and light. since sabre didnt carry this brand n most are customs...so have to get at my place here. the revo stx at my place sells for rm700++ but the one at sabre for less than rm500. dunno if they really jack up the price or wat. but i think will do my shoppings at sabre now since the ppl there are nice. but will get the rapala lure from my place la since they still carry the 'old' lure which is not china made. hehe.....skitter pop for rm26, ok ar?

QUOTE(wai_w3ng @ Dec 24 2009, 12:05 PM)
i am thinking to buy a BC too, but i heard to control the BC takes patient and time to master
but BC is definitely has a better control over spinning right?
i've tested a mid heavy abu rod which is sooooo good feeling it almost tempted me to buy :S
*
i was like u too when i saw it at first but didnt plan to get it so soon but the guys at sabre psycho me to get it, so since i am planning to get a new reel/rod, so get it lor. since i havnet found my dream home yet, so buy it before i found it. hehe....and since i found few nice ppl to ask for opinions and advice, better to get one for long term and start to learn. for start, i have to start with surface lure.........hehe.........wish me luck!

its not surface lure... they call it top water lure... 2 type.. one can walk the dog and another one popper... i use to call it WUSH! WUSH! MuaHaHaHa...
*
btw, how much did u bought the stx? i think i will mostly go to sabre now since the tackle shop nearby my house is quite expensive. the berkley line (mono) tat i bought at sabre is rm30 n they sell at 29 but at my place it was rm34.90. btw, any place tat u know tat sells rapala lures around kl area?

Price you got already the best lah... No need to worry... and like i said you won't regret one... Of course don't compare to Zillion lar... price also different what...

Thanks for PM, BTW.

Rapala's shop i always go to Pudu Shop... what name i forgot edi lah...  near to BOMBA one... another shop like other friend said, aboy lah... but all new rapala... also good... only need to know which one to buy lah...
*
is this show at pudu is facing the main road? any place around cheras/ampang/pandan perdana area? pudu is a bit not convenient for me. today i went there the tackle shop nearby and thought of getting 2 topwater lure but end up buying 2 rattlin lure. there seems to be 3 'versions' with different packaging. i got 1 firetiger, quite different packaging n got booklet and the other one is made in finland while the rest is ...es..dunno the country name. the firetiger left 2 btw, i wont use it.....just keep it. haha......

btw, any rod to recommend for the revo? someone recommend me expert graphite and honestly it is expensive n looks good too but it was medium heavy. i'm looking for a medium and budget is below rm250. anything other than berkley or shakespeare. should i get the expert graphite although it was medium heavy? hmm......any comments?

QUOTE(QiW @ Dec 26 2009, 09:38 PM)
just get an ANTARES or STELLA
no need to upgrade for a long long long time .. hahahahahaa
*
antares should be around rm2k right? i met one angler, he is still using his first gen of antares (rm2500 that time) until now although the bearing is quite noisy. as for parts, it was still easily available. but he just bought a new antares too...so i guess it should be a good reel but too expensive for me to really appreciate it.

Yes... got two shop there... i went to the one near to BOMBA...

I went to most of tackle shop in Klang Valley edi... Klang up to Rawang... I even went to Seremban and Senawang... I also went to KB, Sg Petani, Penang and Butterworth... MuaHaHaHa... If looking for RAPALA then go to 2 shop i suggest... Another one Apek shop at Rawang... plenty of it... Looking for HALCO then go to Sabre.. So far, no shop around that area i know got lot of lures... thats why i'm asking you so i can do my window shopping later... MuaHaHaHa...

My advice if you want to listen lar... keep your money first! Don't just simply buy lures without understanding it's function. You don't even have rod but already buying lures... New RAPALA lures from Estonia BTW...

Recommendation on rod for you a bit tricky actually as i normally use cheap rod only... Rod also same... must know your target fish and what game you wanna play... rod poundage etc... do your homework. Broken of expensive rod more pain than cheap one... MuaHaHaHa... Somehow, if you ask me, i prefer Berkley. ABU Conolon also not bad.. other than Sure Catch ElCheapo which no more in market... like i said depend on game i play...

Fishing trip? No problem... We use to have TT session before... Can tokkok and sing song... Follow bro Q notes for more info... Maybe introduce you to amongst sifus there...

If got money, why not? I still waiting bro Q sponsorship for my antares... MuaHaHaHa...
*
bro, as said, the ones i'm concentrating now is topwater. the rattlin rapala is for 'collections' since 1 is made in ireland n the other 1 from finland. since rapala lures are collector items, i think it wont depreciate over time kwar. for now, doing on poppers n those minnow ones first.

for the rods, will see how la. but should i get the medium heavy? wanted to use it for haruan, pb n seafishing. the spinning reel that i had currently will be used for those bait fishing lor.

and i hardly/almost do not do freshwater anymore

but seriously ... u get what u pay
i started off with cheaper shimanos ... now i still have shimanos but not the cheaper ones la .. and i think they will last me a long long long time .. hehehe
*
most asked me not to get those less than rm100 rods and some even asked me to get a customized. but i think better get a better rods la. next yr might tag along with the sabre gang for sotong jigging in june. hehe......should be nice la.....

suffix line can get it at the pandan mewah tackle shop, they got a lot. but most braided lines are light n strong....jus wondering wat kite u're flying leh? later the price of the line is more than the kite but i guess u wont be flying those cheapo kites la.

bro, i also kena psycho by the sabre guy to buy one pack of braided line, got the cheapest which is around rm48/140yrds. try out n at the same time, scared of losing my lures liao. but still keep it la cos too expensive to use it on normal fishing. wait till i am ok with the baitcast reel, then reel on it.........

LC? err...what is LC.....don tell me it is Lan C***?? haha....noob la me.....

guys,

i'm in a dilemma now....the revo stx that i ordered....haii....no stock, need to order for the left hand ones and most probably will arrive before CNY. Then there is the Toro which has the left handed ones. I went to the other tackle shop to compare the STX and they are selling RM100 difference from sabre.

the sabre dont recommed me the toro but the pandan mewah tackle recommend me the toro for harsh usage if compare to stx. and i heard the stx magnet is quite sensitive to saltwater unlike the toro which does not have one. my hand can fit to the toro btw since my hand is big....so...wait for the stx or toro? haii.......
