haha..there's 2 fishing shop there, Fish Hunter and Sabre tackles. I guess you went to Fish Hunter and the uncle quite friendly. However their price in most stuff are expensive compared to brand model to brand model..well that is IMHO lah.. I hardly go there in fact since the hooks and other stuff are quite expensive...just go there cuci mata.

the octo jig, is t same model sold at pandan mewah same as the model sold in Fish Hunter? there are brands and weights that determine the price same goes for rods, I can dig up a few cheap sea trolling rods but after u use, sure keep at the cupboard

try to get from OceanSport Fishing (or best known as eBoy) in Seri Kembangan, not mistaken last seen that model last month, not sure they have it now or not. There's another place I know that have Fream Exceler 4500J is in Mei Jia Tackles, Lukut. They have most of the old Daiwa reels even the classic like BG-10 and BG-20

i would recommend u buy a cheap one like banax or abu (black max, blue max or silver max series) first. Get the feel of it, meaning..learn how to cast etc coz surely will kena goreng meehoon (or birdnest) see if u can take it or not. Some people just give up and continue with spinning reel, while some continue as it is. I've know many who brought expensive BC reels (as seen I've sold one with digital control here) but ends up prefer to use spinning reels instead. Here I would list out several limitations for a BC reels and their pros as well...

pros:
better control of the fish (IMHO)
lightweight
makes u look like a pro provided u dun goreng mee hoon la.

cons:
not all lures can be use with BC reels, but some BC reels (expensive ones like the one I've sold and anteras) can cast the lightest lures which ends up we fall back to spinning reels to do the job.

goreng meehoon can be frustrating especially when u load ur BC reels with expensive braided line. Can also be frustrating when fish is in a biting frenzy and the last thing on earth is to be stuck with a mee hoon line (I've experienced that )

I believe u ought to rephrase the word of "investing on a baitcasting reel" if u want to look for a cheapo offer. What u pay for is what you get. My recommendation would be Shimano Curado tho I'm using Inshore.

RM500 + better than stx...same level as inshore.

u mentioned u want something long lasting, thus suggesting u inshore coz can play both fresh and saltwater. again, if u din wash ur reel after saltwater fishing, any reel would die.

abu, shimano..it's like comparing ermm...Toyota and Chevrolet..Some models are good and some are not. Till now, there's no perfect reel..I may say it's nice, you might not feel as nice. Thus selecting reels are really subjective. Abu, Shimano, Daiwa have quality low profile baitcasting reels. it's up to the user to feel it.

I would agree with Sifu Q on the feel. Have the reel set up with the rod (usually in tackle show they allow u to do that) then hold the reel in a casting manner.. does it feel good in your hands? some may b too small, some too big. For me, I hate Revo Toro since it's too bulky on my hands.

yup it's not the control of BC.. is the usage of BC. Learn how to use the BC takes time and patience... as mentioned the BC control of the fish is better than spinning if u know how to make good use of it.
