I got it for RM1600. I consider this camera a pretty good balance between ease of use of point & shoot and customisable options. Its a camera I bought for family usage as well, so had to take into consideration their ability to operate camera also

That really depends on your addiction to photography or perhaps i should say addiction to hardware
My brother used his d40 and got a few awards in US
It really boils down to talent more than gear tho

And a d40 is only a notch more expensive than say a top of the range P&S

Its still acceptable unless you do alot of night photography then you have problems with exposures

All I really need in this camera now is manual shutter speed, and it would be pretty much the perfect P&S camera.

its artificially limited wan la... there are scene modes in the camera that can give the camera 1/1600 (if I recall) second shutter and starry modes which give like up to 60 seconds shutter speed. So its not like its not capable, just that the software doesn't give me the option >"<
