The answer:why not?

The fan operates on different speeds when supplied different amount of power. Normal 12v fans will run at different speed when supplied 12v and 5v. Usually, the easiest way is to get a fan controller panel like those manufactured by Cooler Master, Deepcool, Zalman, Enermax...These controller panels use voltage regulators where you can supply different voltages to the fan to get different effects.

Another way, is by modding the fan. You can just simply build yourself a voltage controller for it and manually adjust the fan speed to your optimal setting.

That goes for all fans. Google up "DIY fan controllers". I'm sure you'll find a lot.

These fans are loud so even if you have a fan controller, it'll still make some noise at the low voltages smile.gif

I'm using the Zalman fan controller. It's pretty costly but I like the design of it smile.gif

err, just a little note ya, the vizo windstorm draws 1.0A ++

it may burn your mobo fan headers, and do check on your fan controller's max rated fan that you can plug in.

if you DIY contoller, use LM317T or LM338

You will like to check out this fan controller sell by trader here :-

Sunbeam Rheobus Quad Channel Fan Controller
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=15038520

It is 4 fans controller and each channel support 20w power.
Your fan is getting power from this controller instead from the motherboard so you don't worry for getting your motherboard fried.

sure DC fans can be control.
either you get a controller ,
or you mod one.

the concept is simple, your fan design to take 12V to blast at full speed.
let say 12V, 4800rpm.
by feeding the fan less voltage, the coil in the fan getting less volt, less ampere and also less flux generated, hence less movement on the
blades and so it's lower in rpm.

you can used variable resistant to control the voltage that feed to the fan, or using a fixed resistant to fix the fan speed at a level.

wahh.. full of technical detail .. nod.gif electrical subject .. laugh.gif

thanks.. i fully understand..

well .. i just tested with cooler master musketeer .. and it fully can be control- speed and noise .. by reducing its voltage- simple concept notworthy.gif

thanks all notworthy.gif
