Many people told me that I am too old to learn violin. Is 19 years old is too old?

no its not too old.

however, at this age where you'll be busy with college and all, you do need to be very disciplined to put time aside to practice.

Yes you are too old, you should be married 3 years ago.

Just kidding.

No lah, the question you should ask is not if you're too old.

It should be if you're passionate enough and know how to set a proper timetable to accommodate the lessons ?

there is no such thing as 'too old to play instrument'
we play for our own pleasure right??
dont listen to negative comment like that.
just learn it with a good sifu and in correct way... then, shred on your violin in front of them! rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

generally people learn slower as they get older. And most of them give up because of frustration and lack of progress. Hence the myth "too old to learn".

I don't know about you, but some of the piano players I know can't stand the guitar.

Too painful and they give up too easily.

Learning piano helps you with your foundation/music theory, but the problem is when you start learning other instruments, you start comparing and found the piano much easier and then you give up easily.

I never learned the piano and never had to compare so to me, guitaring isn't that hard but since I am just learning for fun, I have no pressure to improve/ace by a certain time/age.

The problem with some musicians is they set a pace where they MUST ace the exam, where learning no longer becomes fun, but a CHORE just because of the certificate/exam.

As for those of us who learn a musical instrument out of interest and fun/joy, ignoring exams and such, we tend to find it easier to pickup and no pressure at all.

In the end, i think those who learn out of genuine interest and not rushing to pass exams might improve and find it a joy.

Learning to play a musical instrument should be an enjoyable process.

But when you combine it with an exam to ace and get certificate by a certain period (usually not your own pace) it becomes a chore and that's why many kids give up music after they grow up.
