This was announced months ago by all the banks. I got plenty of letters and emails. I don't like it any better though even after all this time...

I called MBB today to check my application status and also asked about if there's any extra financial charge for oversea transactions.

The telebanker said no and only exchange rate determined by Visa/Mastercard International.

Sorry I don't believe this. MBB has consistently charged 2% on top of the exchange rate. I just checked some of my purchases when I was in Phuket earlier in June and it's definitely has the 2% surcharge compared to the exchange rate on xe.com

Can't recall what Citibank or SCB has been charging me, I haven't used them recently biggrin.gif

I checked Bank Negara's exchange rate

http://www.bnm.gov.my/statistics/exchangerates.php

and xe.com's exchange rates. They don't match exactly but for the dates that I was in phuket the difference is only around 0.5%. Too lazy to check Visa's exchange rate...

I still think MBB charges a fee. At least Amex is up front in saying that they do.

then its not worth to use cc at all. government say that they want us to use cc for convenience. better use debit card if like that.
coz not all payment straight away goes into our cc statement. some transaction required one or two days before we can see it online (i'm referring to maybank cc thru maybank2u).

Actually if you're diligently paying your credit card in full then there's no real loss, you're still getting up to 40+ days of interest free buying not including the points/rewards. If you don't pay in full then it's much better to pay by cash obviously.

I don't agree with BNM ruling, it's very favorable to the banks only but that's how it is unfortunately...

@tishaban,
Go get a HSBC Platinum and spend RM25k within 6 months.  I want that Samsonite luggage ! tongue.gif

Bwahahaha. I might hit that target, my statement after last month's Phuket trip is already almost half of that icon_question.gif and HK is confirmed for November...

Wait, why am I buying the luggage for your father again? Maybe you can ask your lifeguard friend to buy it, think of it as an investment for the future whistling.gif

But then again I don't have a HSBC Platinum card, too cheap to pay the fees biggrin.gif

Wanted to buy something that's worth RM1100. Almost half of salary. The temptation was so great for me to swipe the card. I took a deep breath and determine that I'll come to the shop another 2 times and on the third time I'll decide 1) I need it, 2) I can afford it, 3) There are no better offer elsewhere before buying it.

At least for me, sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't biggrin.gif What happens when you're shopping online? It's so easy to go back, just refresh biggrin.gif Or if it's on sale/limited time offer.

This is why I ended up with a Macbook Pro instead of a Macbook, RM2000 (~40%) extra!

I need more money... icon_question.gif

sorry to ask again...who has the mayabnk threat point claim...want to claim something...how do we claim normally??i mean other than threat fairs...

Check your english my friend, a threat is when you're in danger so threat fairs are pretty scary biggrin.gif A treat is when you get something for free. Very opposite meanings they have...

Anyway, I claimed my treat points two ways, one by downloading the form from the web and faxing it in. Second was to go to the MBB credit card place in 1U, they're even open on weekends and I got my Petronas vouchers on the spot there.
