Maybe the banks don't want to reveal their evaluation criteria for fear of people knowing how to workaround their system?

QUOTE(thtan @ May 29 2008, 06:50 AM) I called customer service before posting. They don't know the answer, that's why I asked here. Waiver is subject to approval by RHB credit card centre. If possible, I don't want to pay the RM500 annual fee. Rather poor that RHB CS doesn't have the answer. Or perhaps they do not have a published criteria for waiver. Other plat cards I've seen, some say you have to swipe at least 12x a year (no amount stated), some say at least RMxxxx spending per year. |

QUOTE(nicole_nic81 @ May 29 2008, 09:34 AM) i think it has been 2 years alreay.. me and my hubby bought our 46" LCD with the card, our PA insurance every month, his car's tires, his laptop, my macbook, my ipod, my wedding ring and etc You're definitely using your CC to the max! My first choice for payment is also CC, even for small amounts like RM10-20. If the vendor accepts, why not Other things you can also consider charging to CC are utility bills, house assessment, handphone bill, etc. Those things give me several hundred extra points every month. |

QUOTE(nicole_nic81 @ May 27 2008, 01:26 AM) I remember a few years ago Citibank was *the* card to get. Maybe because of the strong branding and offers attached to the card. And yeah some people also attracted because it's not a local bank. I always wondered about that... is there any diff between whether issued by local bank or foreign bank? Friends mentioned that foreign bank has better coverage overseas (e.g. when travelling) compared to local bank but I doubt that. I've never had any problem with my MBB card overseas. |

QUOTE(wvt @ May 29 2008, 11:25 AM) Guys,I have a noob question. Is your card Visa? There is a Plus highway logo behind my Maybank Petronas card,so does that mean I can use it like touch and go whenever I passby the Plus toll or i can reload my touch and go card's credit using the CC on the Plus counter? My Visa card also has a PLUS logo, but I don't think it refers to our highway. I think its the PLUS network for ATMs, meaning you can use your CC to withdraw cash from ATMs around the world which are part of the PLUS network. |

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ May 29 2008, 04:57 PM) From as far as I can remember, Citibank had alwiz been promoting their credit cards; other foreign banks onli started doing so in the recent years. I agree with U re foreign vs local banks' credit card - Citibank HAS failed me in the past when I tried to use it in Australia. Surprising for Citibank to have failed u. I would have expected the reverse, i.e. local bank to fail instead of foreign bank. Oh well, time to change perceptions.Admittedly, I've never held a local bank's credit card [up till when I applied for my DA Graduate card but that card remains dormant] For a local bank, PBB is quite good. I don't know about their credit cards though cause surprisingly they've never bothered to offer me one despite it being my primary bank. MBB was good to me in the sense of pre-approving CCs for me (Amex, Master & Visa at once) since it's my primary bank. Also raised limit once without me asking. |

QUOTE(thtan @ May 29 2008, 08:20 PM) I don't want the bank to charge me RM500 only then I start to ask for waiver. When that happens I think it's too late to cancel the card. I'm a good paymaster, I pay up my all transactions within one week, hope they will give me the automatic waiver as they did with other cards. On all my cards so far don't have automatic waiver. I've always had to call them to ask for it. If I call them too early they will say wait until it appears in statement first. So I wait. The downside is that must pay the bill including the annual fee first. Then next month they will reverse the annual fee. A bit of a hassle. A free for life card would be more convenient in that sense. |

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ May 29 2008, 06:22 PM) @jchong, What a bl***y pickle Citibank has gotten u into. Since u need to use a CC, stick with the Citi Plat for the moment but at first opportunity, bail out!Er... I don't know about local banks credit card as I don't carry one *grins* But well, to be fair to Citibank, they only failed me once! Btw, I just found out the maximum credit limit given out on a Clear Card is RM15k. Citibank's just reverted to me and told me I could opt out of the Platinum Card and get my Clear Card back but they wouldn't be able to give me the original credit limit offered with the Citi Plat. So how so how?! I'm travelling again these few days and if I do want to change back to my Clear Card, I've got to wait for them to process it, send me a new one. In the meantime, what am I going to use to pay my bills?! *grins* Also, I've got to reset the Citibank Online and all.. uGhh!!!!!!!! |

QUOTE(Shinichi @ May 31 2008, 06:18 PM) I heard some people say its better to have a backup CC from different bank, but I would like to know how likely that a card from 1 bank cannot go through and we need to use card from another bank for transaction (excluding case where we have maxed out our CC limit)? Will it be okay if we just depending on 1 CC from 1 bank? It doesn't happen often, but in the past few years it's happened twice to me. Give one card, cannot go through. Give another card, it's ok.I think perhaps the merchant's terminal cannot connect to the server to get the approval code for the transaction. So, yes I think having a 2nd card is useful. Also with a 2nd card you might have offers and discounts different from what the 1st card has. |

So far lately I've not experienced any approval failure. I think it rarely happens nowadays.

Just a note on CC exchange rates.
Did a trip to Singapore just recently and used my MBB CC to buy some stuff. The CC conversion rate was about 2.385, which I thought was reasonable since changing at money changer was 2.380. |

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Jun 4 2008, 04:45 PM) Er.. Citibank's cash back is also on a tiered basis. At the highest tier for the Cash Back Gold Credit Card is 3.88% but that's only for those who have a carry forward balance of >RM10k. This kind of a system I find to be disingenuous. As you said, the user is probably paying more on the carry forward balance interest than he is getting back. I don't see how this benefits much cause in order to get some $, we're actually spending more At least the Alliance is just a straight forward cash back based on your spending. |

QUOTE(zenquix @ Jun 4 2008, 06:47 PM) Yup until a certain limit then no more rebates. The limits depend on card type.. classic lower, plat higher. This is on top of timeless points as well... Had a look at the link and did some calculations based on the Plat card.Eyeing this card to a certain extent.... http://www.alliancebank.com.my/ccard_cashback.html If you managed to spend 5k, the cashback is RM56.50 max (or about 1.13%). No cashback for amount above 5k. |

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Jun 12 2008, 08:37 AM) @hye, Wah, now also become matchmaker ah? The RM my folks deal with is pretty hot except she's not too familiar with Consumer Banking; she's apparently more of an Investment Advisor - could introduce her to U if U want. Anyway, is the RM any good as an investment advisor? |
