Assuming 8500TP = RM50 parkson voucher, to get back RM800, that's 16 x 8500TP = 136,000TP to break even the RM800 annual fee.

@cute_boboi,
But there are other privileges too.  Also, if he's intending to purchase an MBA through Machines, he'll be spending at least RM6k there.  RM6000 x 10 times reward points = 60000 reward points.

He just needs an additional 80000 points for the rest of the year and well, Parkson is one of the few places that offers 10x reward points so he'll just shift all his spending from Jusco/Metrojaya to Parkson biggrin.gif

with 10X membership award... means i only need to spend 13 k to get back my 800 bucks... (in partner retail stores)

and with another 8 k spent.. i will get a Longines Watch... which i think at lease worth more than 1 k..
*
yeah... just an estimate calculation on the spending needed to break even, of course there are other benefits and usage. If already calculate until grass-die tongue.gif then is worth it thumbup.gif

Anyway, the smallest I've swipe is somewhere RM7 at Jusco with Amex tongue.gif = 14TP only sweat.gif

Last time I used to travel and claim a lot every month, now reduce to trickle...

wat is ur primary card now? AMEX?
*
Yes, primary is MBB Amex gold credit card. Always ask in unfamiliar places whether they accept it or not. tongue.gif Have been using Amex for nearly 2 yrs. 2 yrs free waiver expiring somewhere Aug'08 sweat.gif If they don't waive, I'm going to downgrade to Amex Classic rolleyes.gif

Secondary is MBB Petronas Visa plat now.

Backup is Citibank Mastercard Choice. hmm.gif Thinking to cancel or not, as sometimes have promotion... like last yr buy 1x coffee bean, free 1x.

The rest all never use and keep at home.

Currently pumping Petronas = 5x TP. Once the promotion is over, will go back to Esso/Mobil 2x TP with Amex and Smiles points.

is it possible for the petrol station to reject our CC to pump petrol?

how come problems come 1 by 1...
*
Yes, can be several things:
1) I goto pump #1, swipe = reject. Reverse car and goto pump #2, swipe = can go through.
2) Swipe at pump cannot, throw the card at counter and swipe, yes can go through.
3) Swipe X card at pump, cannot. Swipe Y card at same pump, can go through. Then drive to Jusco swipe X card, can... rclxub.gif

if they dun waive ur fee.. dun downgrade... just send in a letter and tell them u want to cancel it...

they will probably call u up and offer u annual fee waiver...

this technique usually work for amex gold!

I'm holding Amex Gold as well.. Member Since 00  laugh.gif
*
Normally MBB tactic is, check your TP points, if have balance, they will ask to redeem from there for waiver sweat.gif I got around 60k points just on that Amex CC (which means i spend only rm30k... hehehe), which going to utilise in the upcoming MBB TP Fair @Mid Valley. RM60 p.a. fee for MBB Amex classic is alright for me, for the 2x TP, especially my main fuel is Esso/Mobil and 70-80% of my CC spending amounts are on Amex CC.

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Jun 24 2008, 07:30 PM)
@cute_boboi,
Sometimes it can be the system problem @ the pump

Do U find it difficult to use Amex as ur primary card?  As in, most merchants do accept it or do they not?
*
Not really, my main usage are at super/hyper marts like Jusco/Tesco and fuel like Esso/Mobil. Once a while, I spend in Coffee Bean, or restaurants which accepts it (Japanese, little penang, madam kwan, etc.), pharmacies (guardian), maxis auto-debit (2x TP thumbup.gif ). Or I purchase things like air-ticket from cathay pacific website, KLIA duty free, etc.

Just don't be shy to ask, "Do you accept Amex?" sweat.gif

@Cute_boboi,

u got my meaning wrong. i mean for the news that the association of petrol station want to reject credit card for payment.
*
oh, sorry. Not very sure on the exact technicality how CC works in petrol station pump.

I think they may verbally reject it at counter. Or post some stupid paper notice "Rosak" at the pump? Or maybe possible to switch off something at the pump ? or spoil the CC machine ? Anyway, drivers can always goto another station.

Yes, and there is panic rush in Sabah currently. Well, I think some station might start to act funny now, but rest assured there are many other still open for business as usual. wink.gif Not sure on later news though...

i never trust touch n go, except use it in highway, others than that, sorry.

OOT abit, btw, TnG is so out-dated. still need to "touch", else in the advanced technology, there are no need to "touch".
*
Side track, TnG is using Philips MiFare-1 technology, operating at 13.56MHz. It's the same technology used for door card access, Ezlink, octopus card, TfL oyster, etc. wink.gif The technology is alright, but implementation and people supporting/maintaining the equipment is another story.

@Syd G,
Does MBB give points on petrol purchases?  Citibank doesn't.  Also, I hear it's not difficult to get MBB to waive the annual fees biggrin.gif
*
MBB Petronas Visa gives 5x TP until end-July '08, but must pump Petronas fuel.

MBB Amex credit card gives 2x TP on everything, including ALL types of petrol stations.

Confirmed, as I'm using it. So far pumped RM300+ after price increase, I got >1,500 TP already.

Anyway, as I've stated previously in CCv2, all CS in MY sucks. I mainly deal with MBB and S&C. Nowadays, I rather deal with machines like CDM, ATM, etc.

@Syd G,
If I'm not mistaken, Muslims can sing in Greenbox, those individual box, and they serve non-alcoholic drinks. Else how they practise for Akademi Fantasia ? tongue.gif

Citibank, seldom call them up. But always receive marketing calls from Citibank related tele-marketers. doh.gif Just received another call today, about invest 10 yrs, get 15 yrs medical coverage, get back deposits, etc.

Previously I have MBB CC, then I "add-on" MBB Amex CC, they still give me 2 yrs AF waiver. However, I applied at MBB TP fair @MV 2 yrs ago.

want to ask you all, is your CC transaction updated online very fast?
i'm using CIMB but my transaction for last week in red box until now still haven't updated online doh.gif
*
In my usage, fastest update into online banking is within 24 hours. Good example are those bills like TM, TNB, Syabas.

Longest recently, I bought Cathay Pac ticket online, then go for trip, come back, still not online. From swipe till online posting is around 10 days. Overseas transactions are normally slower to come in, but there are couple of times, it is online within <24 hours.

QUOTE(tishaban @ Jul 3 2008, 12:54 PM)
Sorry I don't believe this. MBB has consistently charged 2% on top of the exchange rate. I just checked some of my purchases when I was in Phuket earlier in June and it's definitely has the 2% surcharge compared to the exchange rate on xe.com

Can't recall what Citibank or SCB has been charging me, I haven't used them recently biggrin.gif
*
I check my previous MBB overseas posting. By comparing the exchanged CC local amount and FX historical data. Indeed it is around 2% higher. Perhaps Visa/Master/Amex uses BNM exchange rate?

Edit: Something I found:
http://www.bankinginfo.com.my/04_help_and_...ntPrefLangID=1&

QUOTE
Are there any differences in terms of authorisation process, fees and charges imposed when I use my credit card to make purchases locally or overseas? How is the exchange rate determined?

The authorisation process, fees and charges are the same when you make purchases using your credit card regardless of your location. However for purchases made overseas, the transaction amount is subjected to the exchange rate determined by the credit card payment schemes (eg. Visa and MasterCard). The conversion of currencies will be done automatically when the transactions are made. The exchange rate is normally determined based on the mid-point of the prevailing buying and selling rates of the exchange of foreign currency against Ringgit.
