so who wants to have a monster hunter gathering in real life?

affinity is overated imo

10 % to do 25% more damage is very low

with 50% affinity you do extra 17.5% extra damage on average

lol, affinity means nothing to gs coz of unsheath crit skill.

to other weapons, affinity is more of a "lucky"/"unlucky" hit. you would say i prefer reliability (high base damage) compared to high affinity. come on 25% bonus damage???? thats so low! i always regard mh as a game of skill not luck.

gunlance is quite a solid weapon, however you need to be confident to use it, same goes for lance. i'd prefer lance tho, too bad lances cant swing upwards like gl's

gs is superbably easy to use, but it requires more "effort" compared to other weapons. attack, roll, sheath = what gs users do all the time. no one has the opportunity to charge all the time, regardless of weapon, the charge is like an ultimate attack, just like gl's wyvern fire. use when the chance arises.

i personally dislike ls. it is a "good" weapon but it is not too great. it has the range and near the damage of a gs but attacks as fast as a hammer. an in between weapon. i'd rather ask a person to switch to gs or hammer instead of ls.

regarding staggers, all weapons cause stagger, all you need to do is do enough damage to the monsters body part (each body part has different amount of damage required to stagger them).
one reason i like gs is because i can target body parts easily. get a solid hit in, then get out. quick and surgical. unlike an ls which swings the weapon here and there especially when launching it's full combo, the damage is everywhere. abit here abit there. not to forget, different body parts have different amount of armor so using a messy weapon like a ls despite doing a full combo may result in lower average damage as some attacks hit areas with high armor.

i know i know i m very biased towards ls, however it's way too easy to love gs once you learn how to use it.

if a person say a gs is slow, i would agree only if it is kept out. it is not meant to be kept out.

ls fullcombo vs gs lvl 3 charge

ls fullcombo is affected by critical chance, attacks go everywhere, takes a few seconds and a lot of button presses to execute as well as requires the fury bar. after usually a ls after 3 fullcombos would require sharpening.

gsl lvl3 charge, with crit draw it is a confirmed critical. attacks are focused. takes a few seconds but faster than performing a ls fullcombo (especially with fast charge skill), has built in windresistance during charge (can charge while a monster is landing without being pushed away), you can keep doing level 3 charges over n over again without needing to sharpen for quite some time.

i finished the first training school and got sword saint piercing so i would say i do know how to use a ls if required. in fact i used to love ls for a period of time.

that is still counted as a stagger albeit a more effective one. you can even knock down a flying wyvern if your damage is high enough.

a good way to see how useful a gs charge attack is, is against tigrex. run behind him and start charging the gs. when he turns around a level 2-3 charge to the head would stagger him (g-rank is harder to do this).

the "proper" definition of repel in mh is by failing to kill a monster but managing to protect a fort from being destroyed by the monster.

your calculation is correct, and it shows siegmund is better than diablos destroyer. however it depends on the game you're playing and how you use a gs.

if you are playing MHF2 those 2 are the best GS's available, and out of the 2 i would also pick siegmund as the clear winner.

however if you are playing MHU, those calculations are kind of useless. why?

first, in MHU, diablos sword can be upgraded to white sharpness with 1488 raw and -15% affinity while siegmund is.....stuck... (you can curse capcom for punishing MHF2 players who make the best GS by making the GS stagnant in MHU)

second, in MHU theres a skill called "unsheathe critical" (or something like that). what it does is it makes the first attack that takes the weapon out (unsheathe attack) and makes it a critical hit. a confirmed critical, 100% crit. it completely disregards negative affinity, even if your weapon has -999% affinity, with this skill it will be a critical.

- arguements about using the statement above:
-- what about people who want to attack more than once? if you're playing gs, you should play hit and run style. if you have time to hit more than once, you should charge your gs.

in fact thanks to unsheathe critical, tigrex gs is a good gs too (2nd best imo). one advantage tigrex gs has over diablos gs is tigrex sharpness ends with purple while diablos ends at white and requires artisan to push it to it's full potential.

heck, if you recompare the 2 swords you compared earlier in MHU, you would see diablos as better (with unsheathe critical that is).

if you still want to debate on affinity, i would simply say affinity sucks. i choose raw over affinity anytime (i hate to depend on dumbluck)

i just want to ask currently i'm wearing kut-ku set with eager cleaver but i'm not sure what is the next set of armor i should aim for because most of the set i see is useless with terain,ice resist,hunger or etc..none of them with attack ,def or health

in my opinion there are a few combination of  skills 

diablos (last upgrade) 1488 raw -15% affinity white sharpness

unsheathe critical
-if you keep sheathing after every attack it means all your attacks have 25% bonus damage all the time, it disregards negative affinity so the -15% affinity only affects attacks after the unsheathe attack

artisan/sharpness +1
-to push the diablos sword to purple from white sharpness which gives you 50% sharpness bonus damage (white sharpness gives 30%)

fastcharge
-charge your gs faster by maybe 1- 1.5 seconds not too sure, what i am sure is that a level 3 charge is better than 3-4 combo attacks.

i get the above from using full rajang set ,you can mix and match but i dont really see the need. rajang armor set is quite good, fully slotted it gives me the above skills and dragon resistance. the resists for this armor are all positive except for ice (it's weakness), not really too much of a dent in the armor as the first time i killed ukanlos was while doing it solo with this armor equipped (took me a few hours of trying tho). it does however give TAUNT skill which makes the boss target you more often. which is actually a good thing coz what i normally do is stand behind a boss and charge my gs. if he turns to me, he's gonna end up getting a nice level 3 charge on the face. if he doesn't then his tail, legs does.

against fast creatures charging kind of sucks ass (even with fast charge)

so i would trade my fast charge with attack up large (adds roughly 90 damage), rathalos armor gives you this.

if you're willing to take risks potential +2 is better than attack up large, it gives you 30% bonus damage when your life is at/below 40. 30% of 1488 is much better than a measly 90 bonus damage, but you've got to be very confident not to get hit (since you need low life to activate the skill).

to make diablos gs u need to kill..... diablos.... full weapon path + items u need can be found on minegarde.com (highly recommended webbie)

alternatively if getting artisan skill is too much of a hassle, simply get tigrex gs. tigrex gs is actually superior to diablos (if you dont get artisan for diablos). tigrex gs's damage is roughly 100 less than diablos, but makes up for it by having 20% bonus damage from purple sharpness (does not need artisan).

regardless, if you want the best damage for gs, the most important skills are unsheathe crit and purple sharpness.

one might argue that shengaoren gs is much better as it's raw is 1440 has no affinity and has def bonus, but upon closer inspection, it's purple sharpness is short. it gets blunt easily, even the blackbelt gs (1300++ raw with no negative affinity) has the same problem.

if damage isnt your primary concern, and if white sharpness is good enough for you, make sentoryu wolf (yian garuga gs). 1296 raw 40% affinity with 3 slots.

i recommend gs users to have these gs:

diablos gs - requires unsheathe crit + artisan
tigrex gs - requires unsheathe crit

ceanatur gs - balanced weapon
lavasioth gs - high raw + fire element, defense, positive affinity, but requires artisan

rathalos+rathian gs - high raw + dragon element (used to break elder dragon horns)

sentoryu wolf (yian garuga gs) - 3slots, 40% affinity, but requires artisan

daimyo gs - +30 or 40 def, requires artisan
shengaoren gs - same as above, also requires sharpness (weapons stay sharp longer) to be reliable, despite this weapon requiring sharpness skill, this is one heck of a cool gs. when u charge it, red color runes appear on the blade (brighter/redder depending on the charge level)- AWESOME!!!!

regardless of all those weapons, nowadays i just use diablos gs most of the time. so if u re making only 1 gs, then go make diablos.

however, if your HR is low, or if you're a new player, get ceanatur gs. totally worth it!

potential + 2 gives 30% more damage and 90 def at below or equal to 40 life (might be 30) i forgot.

HGE is not needed for gs. why? proper gs players would be running around with sword sheathed, if they see a mob is going to roar, they use quickblock.

normally i love having ukanlos roar, i just need to block, take my time to sheath the weapon, wait a second, then start charging

the most dangerous roar for gs is the raths. coz they roar very fast.other roars are just annoying. tigrex /nagaruga roars are funny since u just need to keep out of their range and then run in and start charging (or you could just block it and start charging)

HR 6 is quite good, the rajang armor i m using is G rank. for your current rank i think the required items for crit draw is unavailable yet (if not mistaken), if you're okay with having to "fix" the negative affinity or if you dont mind the negative affinity, then go for it. i actually don't really recommend diablos/tigrex gs if you dont have the drawn critical skill.

erm, all melee weapons have unsheathe attack (the first attack that pulls/draws the weapon out) - btw its not a noob question, i have at least 2 friends HR 9, both didnt even know what drawn critical did till i told them (that's what you get for playing mh2g). one of them is an LS lover, but he started to learn GS thanks to yours truely. the other guy, he's funny, he asked me "what HOUR are you?", thinking of the total hours spent, i said "200 or so, but if added with my MHF2 hours, it would total over 500". then he told me he was "HOUR NINE"....................... HR 9 = HOUR 9...... yes, this is what happens when you play mh2g.... anyway back to the point..

drawn critical (the proper skill, i kept referring to it as unsheathe critical), is an armor skill required to make all unsheathe attacks become confirmed criticals. to get this skill, you need armor/decorations only available in G-rank (g-rank is quests from the third lady in the guild hall, usually only HR 7-9 people have access to them).

fast charge is also a G-rank skill, but if i m not mistaken there are some armors (kushala daora i think) that has it at pre-G.

with your weapon sheathed press R+triangle+circle for quick block - its a lifesaver.

so for your case i'd recommend ceanatur gs since its sharp and it can give u purple sharpness earlier if you use artisan on a none fully upgraded one.

ls is a good starting weapon, but in the end gs is better (in my opinion)

Hunting at Sunway? Don't think it's a problem. Exsea, Sunway is just 5-10 minutes drive over from my place so it's near.. We can find a day during weekends and we can meet up with them for a nice hunting session

For Black Diablo, a good weapon of choice against Diablo is Poison SNS (Queen Rose) as they take more damage from Poison. I hate fighting Diablo with Hammer(Unless I flash him like crap), his burrow then appear underneath u attack is too fast for me and a pain in the ass.. 

For Los Rubies, Do the epic hunting quest in G-Rank with rathalos in it, the chance to get is almost 80-100%, the bosses are much easier to kill than single bosses.

@gofey or anyone else..

Suggestion for armours, don't go for things that you can get from the kitchen such as longer life bar (u can get this from eating Fish + Bran or drink Max Potion) or longer stamina bar (Eat meat in game!! ) Go for something more solid that can really help u in game. Here's a list of commonly used Skills that I usually mix and match when i'm using different kind of weapons depending on who i'm fighting..

1. Expert  (If u love critical), 10 Gives u Reckless Abandon +1, 15 Gives u RA+2, 20 Gives u RA+3.
2. Unseath critical, First hit becomes 100% critical (good for GS, read Exsea's Essay about GS above )
3. Stamina to get Runner skill (Unlimited stamina for charging/run for ur life)
4. Fast eating/Cooking (Increase eating speed, don't choke can be a life saver during critical moments against fast bosses)
5. Artisan (Push ur weapon sharpness 1 rank higher, eg: White->Purple, Blue->White)
6. Sharp Sword (Ur weapon won't go blunt so fast)
7. High Grade Earplugs (U need 15 to earplugs skill, 10 only gives u normal earplugs, take note that most rarity 9-10 armours gives only 10 to earplug skill, u still need to socket jewel to make it High Grade Earplugs)
8. Guts (Prevents u from getting 1 hit kill if your life is above 60-70%, life saver for Bow users or fighting against high damage bosses like.... Rage Tigrex or Diablo?)
9. Quake Resistance (Very useful against Shen Gao Ren (stupid giant crab) if you are a melee fighter.. the stomping effect from the legs does nothing to you with this skill )
10. Attack Up (Pretty Obvious, usually I don't bother as the damage added varies from 1 weapon to another, eat Demon Drug or use your kitchen cats to boost it Meat + Vege)
11. ESP (You need 10 to Fencing to get this). You can cut through anything with this skill, your weapon will not bounce but your weapon will become blunt faster than usual... U need this when u are fighting against fatalis and Chamelous..
12. Guard +2 (Useful for Lance/Gunlance users)
13. Evade +2 (15 to Evade) Increase Invulnerability time when you do the superman jump..
14. Evade Distance Up/Evade Inc (The name shows it all.. U evade further..)
15. Short Charge (reduce the time needed for charging weapons like GS, Bows or Hammer, Lavasioth (AKA Volganos in MHP2G) armour gives it).
16. Perceive/Observerance (you can see the pink dot from paintball in ur minimap turns yellow when the monster is ready for capturing)

And the list goes on.. For types of armours, just go to Minegarde and use the search function, some armours u can get it from Mix and Match different armours with similar skills and also through Jewels..

Btw, we're hitting the 54th page now, I think we need to start a new V6 for this thread? A suggestion for the next thread, we should put a list of hunters with their HR ranks, preferred weapon/weapon of choice, location and Xlink kai ID (If available) so we can have a better idea who we can invite during gatherings. Thoughts?

o   if ur using it for multiplayer then i suggest those notes that pump ur fren's dmg, recover hp or increase def..
the sea shell horn made from dragon wood is quite good. increase dmg, infinite stamina n increase max hp.

i use bone armor with flute skill to increase duration of buff

or u can use bug horn(made of bug ingredients). it increase def, recover hp(minimal), divine protection, n elemental buff(correct me if im wrong)

or... u can use akantor horn , if u plan on kicking lao's butt, not much buff though..
high grade ear plug buff, dragon resist n... (1 more i forgot)

some buff can be cast twice for double effect or last longer effect... try using it on the play with frens
there is 1 time 4 player (including me) 2 blade user(i forgot what weapon they use), 2 horn user, both with hp recovery notes , they just whack, me n another fren just heal can say almost no dmg done to players at all

I would suggest removing ur information here so that u can have a peace of mind (u might get spam SMS or calls..) and just contact through PM and yes we do prefer hunting in real life rather than using Kai since Kai is not that reliable nowadays..

How about we put it on this coming Sunday? Sometime around 3PM? I'm not so sure which part of Sunway is good for MHU (Since we need power plugs as well due to the Wifi mode during Multiplayer). Any suggestions? If not anywhere in PJ also is good since ur in Klang..

Well Diablos depends on individuals I guess.. Basically any weapon also can use to kill. Oh.. reading back, u are HR6 now right? U should check out HR9 Diablo and I think u will take back wat u just said..
