1. They don't want to walk up the escalators but refuse to stand to the left and give way to the people who wants to.

2. They don't to use prepaid cards or monthly pass but when they queue up at the counter they block other commuters from passing through to get to the turnstiles.

3. They prefer to crowd the door of the LRT/Monorail but do not want to give way when commuters wants to get in or out.

Yeah, many Malaysians are too poor to buy cars but they still buy anyway and parked it on the pedestrian path because too poor to pay for parking. Whenever toll operators announce increase in toll rates they will complain because too poor to pay toll.

It's part of the local culture. It's the same on the road, ALOT of people can't be bothered to signal to change lanes, obey speed limits, give way, or do anything right on the road. Complete lack of discipline, manners and respect for the road and the people on it. The same can be said for just about everything else in this country.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Can something be done to change this culture? Why can't we be something like in Japan? Oh, I guess the Look East policy we had a number of years ago during Dr M doesn't work.

We can, but I'd have to go into politics and that's beyond the scope of this thread and the forum it's in. Basicly, look at the government, it's policies and you'll understand why so many have no respect for others, why so many are angry(alot of people are angry at the state of the country, they don't say anything about it, they may not even notice it themselves, but they are), and why there's no discipline and no decency.

Look at Japan's history, govt and policies. The OBVIOUS differences will tell you why we can't be like them. Again, I won't go into detail due to politics.

I agree. When riding public transports, esp KTM or LRT during peak hour, hell, is like u don't hv to walk, ppl behind will juz keep pushing u. And some more don't like to que, wtf man. One of my friend, got pick pocketed last time when being squeezed inside. Is hard to notice since so many ppl are having body contact. This kind of thing really pisses me and every other friends as well. The ride cost a lot for him.

KTM also stupid, they juz open the small entrance! Come on, the station we were at was KL Sentral, that's the most crowded place and they expect so many to get in and get out so easily? =.=" Wonder when will the ppl learn to be more civilized and polite. Drive like their own road. Over take like no other ppl's business.

lol. egypt is worse. even kids have to jump into the taxi which drove off just like that without waiting their customers to hop in just right. but anyway, they are used to it that no one died of that cause.

I think it boils down to: (some) People don't think about anyone other than themselves.

When the community around them is excluded, decision-making become very simple - just act greedily and selfishly! However, you and I know that selfish actions do not always yield the best outcome for an individual. We have more foresight than that and can reason to a higher degree how actions lead to a chain of consequences, good and bad.

Did we develop that awareness ourselves? I know I didn't - had I not been brought up with emphasis on civic-consciousness, I reckon I'll be one of those guys you write about
