Do a search on Vit C on GP, you will know why. Do even more search on what food GP eat, google will do a good job for you.

@vakoo: Seeds are bad for GPs. It might poke their mouth and throat causing it to be injured. So don't feed them seeds.

Guinea pigs are like humans in the sense that they cannot produce their own Vitamin C. We need to buy Vitamin C added pellets for them so they don't get diseases when they have deficiency. Because of this, we also need to feed them fresh vegetables and fruits. Please do a slow introduction to ur GP if they never took veges before to prevent diarrhea. Rabbit food doesn't have vitamin C added.

smile.gif My GPs favourite pellets so far is the Kaytee premium rainbow. They will surely finish it no matter how much we give. sweat.gif They know good stuff when they taste it. But I can't seem to find it anywhere currently so they're eating Hagen. Their appetite is fairly smaller than when I feed them Kaytee. sweat.gif Even GPs can be choosy in food quality.

@Peris: GPs shed a lot of fur naturally. That's why I comb their hair daily to reduce massive hair fall at one time. How serious is the shedding? Got any part of the skin is hairless?

vakoo..

Yes, the ingredients of rabbit pellets look somewhat similar to the guinea pigs.

But one very important thing that we always overlook is the anylysis on the content of protein, different vitamins, fibre content, fat, phophorus, salt and so on .. are different.

Rabbits have different requirements of these elements than guinea pigs. If constantly feeding them whatever pellets that are not meant for them, their health will suffer in the long run.

Let me start by saying that all living things have their minimum requirement and when not met, they will get sick or even die. That is why research is important. smile.gif But now is not too late.

sad.gif I think the best thing for you to do now is to get them both to a vet for a checkup. Bloody poo is not good. In fact, it's very bad. Diarrhea will weaken your GP and it might even lose enegy to eat. I'm only afraid that diarrhea is the surface problem. There may be something more. BLEEDING IS NEVER GOOD.

Your brown one is losing fur until become hairless in spots of its skin? Then maybe it's mites or fungus. This condition is very stressful for the GP.

I strongly suggest you get them both to a vet ASAP. GPs hide their illnesses well and if it's showing this much it just means something bad is going on. Sadly, us forumers are not vets so we can't diagnose your pet's condition for you. A trip to the vet will solve the problem, answering your questions.

smile.gif When they're well, you should consider changing their food. The food might cost more but it'll be cheaper than always going to the vet. And it'll make you happy to have healthy GPs right?

sad.gif I'm so sorry... RIP... It's so sad.

For the safety of the brown one, please bring it to the vet soon. There are chances it may be sick too.

Sorry to hear that, maybe you should seriously learn about the PROPER basic need to take care of GP, hay play a very very important part of your GP diet and your feeding pattern as well. A lot of sifu here you can talk to, learn more from them before you get another GP.

How old are your piggies again? smile.gif Maybe you should start an introduction to them on timothy hay, which is suitable for GPs a lil older.
