Ronaldo has speed but the ball not really stick to his feet. Messi is better than him. IMO, nani also better than Ronaldo. If Ronaldo can cut off his stepovers then he can be better.

Ronaldinho is different, he is god of dribblers. huhuhu...

He can simply dribble past a few players at ease. Proven in the match against Man Utd.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Steve Mcmanaman. When judged purely on dribbling, surely he must be somewhere on top of the pile.

To me its Messi. Keeps the ball close to his feet when dribbling making it really hard for defenders to get anything out of the ball, explosive steps and good accelaration. He makes it look so easy.

Messi is by far the best and most prolific dribbler in the list.
i am a mu fan but i think ronaldo still wasn't up to the mark.
he always become anonymous when it comes to the big stage.....

sooner, messi will be unstoppable for a while.
but just like maradona, once the opponents getting used to his tricks,
they'll come up with something up their sleeve to counter it....

maradona did mention that he see's messi as the best talent to succeed in him that department.

the rest of the top talents has (some can even clown the ball with it) has talent footwork.

people like mesmerising footwork moves, its good entertainment.

QUOTE
In possession of the ball Messi is much more perceptive: he can open teams up very intelligently and has great vision. Ronaldo prefers to dribble in bigger spaces while Messi is better in tighter areas -- at times it appears as if the ball is stuck to his foot. He can suck in two or three players and teams always have to have at least one covering player on him. In tight areas he can get past the first player and then either do the same to the next or beat him with a pass.- Trevor Francis~ Former England striker

actually a good dribbler not necessary to posses speed and skill.

dribbling is about getting pass ppl efficiently.

Speed demons are like pennant, ronaldo, robben, giggs, downing
mostly tricking ppl by doing something faster than ppl can expect. If defender have better day then them.. they gonna have a bad time....

Technique based dribblers.. like queresma, zidane, viera, raul, del piero
they get pass ppl with specific techniques which ppl know what they gonna do but still unable to stop the execution.

Balanced dribblers... like messi, ronaldinho, hleb, garincha, ronaldo (fatboy) joaquin, valencia,
this players combines both speed and tricks which make their movement so beatuiful

I feel technique based dribblers are most consistent because they do it day in day out and rarely gets a bad day.

Balanced dribblers can come god like on great days

speed demons are usually counter by 2 speed demons..

huh? when?
maybe got 1 or 2 occasions in 1st leg but u can see in 2nd leg he hardly tried to run through evra.. cant pass him laugh.gif
but he really made scholes like nowhere in front of him

anyway, giggs dribbling with good techniques and not just speed alone
u see in his goal vs arsenal he isnt uses his pace to the max but still can pass through several players

he may be able to buy himself out of the contract. they always have this thing in the agreement hmm.gif

could be one of the reason too. both of 'em are shorter.
and the goal he scored against getafe is almost identical to maradona's 2nd against england during 86 wc.

actually i think ronaldo does have that kind of clause in his contract but maybe the media haven't really highlighted the fact.all top players normally do.that 'buying out your own contract' thingy if i'm not mistakened is only allowed if u have less than two years left with your current club.any transfer agents here? tongue.gif

p.s: would like to add kalou as a great dribbler as well..needs more time to develop though thumbup.gif

I used to like watching David Ginola play. He was graceful on the ball and as he didn't have pace, he relied on his trickery to get past defenders. Often, you needed two defenders to keep him in check.

what if messi suddenly asking for transfer?  tongue.gif
he may be able to buy himself out of the contract. they always have this thing in the agreement  hmm.gif

Cause there's no need for English clubs to put a release clause on their players. In Spain it's required by the football federation for all players to have release clauses. And I doubt Messi has that much money to buy himself out laugh.gif...not like he would want to leave anyway

I still love Zidane's footwork.....his pace is not as fast as like Messi, Ronaldo but it's his intelligent and body language making him pass opponent so efficiently.....

Kaka is an efficient dribbler too, you don't need flair and trickery to be a good dribbler, just raw acceleration, pace and a good sense of positioning.

When you have pace, you see players kick the ball 10 yards ahead before chasing it down. There isn't much need to dribble it. It's when you don't have pace that you need trickery and good footwork to get past your opponent. Case in point? Look "Futsal".

Ronaldo can definitely run much faster when he has got the ball... hard to describe, but that is what he does...

Dribbling? Few types I guess...

Some can knock it and run and do some change of pace, like Henry, Denilson (not the one at Arsenal, the one that went to Real Betis for then a world record fee)...

Some can really turn and completely make a fool outta the opposing player... Cantona, Ginola etc.

And some seem to have the ball stuck to their feet, like Zizou and Asprilla etc.

So which is which?

Anyway, I vote for Robinho, for his fantastic pedaladas (step-overs) during his time at Santos!

dribbling past an opponent and outpace an opponent are different..

hence walcott never deserve dat best dribler tag..

and i think, joe cole is good, but i think there are oso some good dribbler in serie a as well..not jus kaka..y there arenot on d list??

imho, camoranesi is similar to joe cole

I remember watching Ronaldo of Brazil once as he executed a gazillion stepovers at one go. The hapless defender (can't remember who it was) ended up on his tush.

Henry is an example of a player who can dribble and has pace as the same time. Owen is an example of a player who had blistering pace but his footwork sucked. Dennis Romadahl is another.

henry was just awesome back in his arsenal days but he was nowhere to be on top form in barca's shirt. and he barely visible in les bleus.

ronaldinho now practising his body and hip movements in latino flavour pub.
hopefully thats not the end of him. what a pity he was not in form when he was supposed to be in footballer's peak age.

and he very rarely loses the ball when he attempts a dribble.. he is not as fast as roberto carlos or ashley cole.. but i personally think.. he is the best attack left back in the world at the moment.. but due to his physique he is vulnerable against bulkier opponents.. ie Kevin Davies...
On a lighter note..
I think Messi is the one of the best at the moment.. Hleb is a very good dribbler.. but for me.. Zidane.. at his prime..with those broad shoulders.. was very very hard to play against.. And good dribblers don just make use of their quick feet.. also their upper body strength and their physique comes into the equation.. Too bad the Zidanes and the Maradonas never played in the Premier League.. then we could have seen how very very good they were..
Also.. you guys left out George Best!

messi = best dribbler
the gaucho = best skill
zidane = best vision / ball distribution

until messi win the wc with argentina, he may just like another 'giggs' . one of the best player around who never managed a wc medal cuz his country wasn't good enough.
messi's chances with wc medal is a lot higher though.

I think Messi stand a better chance of winning the WC with Argentina than Giggs as his country doesn't even qualify. Definitely Messi will achieve this accolade in some stage of his career as he is still really young. He nearly did so at the last world cup as he was one of their best performer for his country. As long if he stays fit he stand a good chance to land that converted trophy as his country can produce the talents to play along side him.

exactly! not just better, but best chance. they are regular in wc. one of the seeded team. hence, i mentioned about his chances which is a lot higher compare to giggs. giggs just being unlucky with wales.

just like maradona; they share a lot of similarities, physical and playing style.
messi is just too talented but sooner or later, opponent player will be able to read and dictate his moves, thus neutralized 'em. but just like maradona in 86 wc final, even if he was heavily guarded, he can always turn provider.
germany need 3 players to take care of maradona and thus open the chance for burruchaga for the final blow.

unlike maradona though, lets just hope messi will dribbled his way past the recreational drugs tongue.gif

I'd go for the crazy man, Messi.. Dribbling like mad cow.. Made me standing and screaming in front of crowd in Mamak stall during Barca vs Man Utd..
