The guy in the article was in a rush when he jumped ship. Maybe he had a slight regret when he knew that it's an early batch problem. But i doubt he'd regret at all lol.

Canon Europe offering free warranty extension on EOS-1D Mark III, EOS-1Ds Mark III
Friday, May 2, 2008 | by Rob Galbraith
Earlier this week, Canon Europe announced a no-charge warranty extension program for the EOS-1D Mark III and EOS-1Ds Mark III. Under the terms of the program, these models' standard one year warranty will be extended to two years, with no change in the level of warranty coverage.
To qualify, the EOS-1D Mark III or EOS-1Ds Mark III must be purchased by December 31, 2008 in one of twenty European countries. The start date of the program is effectively the first date of sale of these cameras, and as such it's available retroactively to all existing owners as well.
Eligible countries are Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK. Online registration for the program is here (your camera's serial number is required).
Note: As of this writing, there appears to be an error in the registration page and/or confirmation email, one in which the date of birth (of the photographer) and date of purchase (of the camera) are getting confused. We've sent an email to Canon Europe to let them know, plus they're probably hearing about the error direct from camera owners too. Also note that the registration info mentions "EOS-1 D" and "EOS-1 DS" as the models being registered, when in fact they are the EOS-1D Mark III and EOS-1Ds Mark III.
Chuck Westfall, Technical Advisor at Canon USA, says there are no plans to offer a similar program in the U.S. (other than the existing warranty extension for EOS-1D Mark III owners who have the sub-mirror repair performed). Westfall suggests that U.S.-based EOS-1D Mark III and EOS-1Ds Mark III photographers who have questions about warranty terms, or require a repair after their warranty expires, contact Canon USA customer service directly (contact information is at the bottom of this page).
Sales of the EOS-1D Mark III in the U.S. officially commenced on May 24, 2007.
