Blu-ray sales figures are abysmal, formats future won't be clear until Xmas
NPD has said that it won't release sales figures of Blu-ray standalone players. This is because they are so low people would easily be able to identify individual retailers. According to NPD consumers are choosing much cheaper upconverting players over Blu-ray. NPD now believe that we "Blu-ray’s future won’t be clear until this Christmas, when prices should drop to the $200 range." ABI research however believes it may take Blu-ray until October 2009 to get a foothold in the market.
