Hi,

I'm also interested to do some charity work during weekends too.... does anybody know any foundations or clubs which are really doing something on a regular basis and not just talk only? I'm particularly interested to work with children....

your best bet is to gather your own close friends and visit the nearest orphanage convenient to you. Not only do the kids love the company, but if you feel like being productive, you may offer to give them tuition during your spare time in the weekends. Since the children don't have parents to push them academically, or anyone else to give them personal attention, volunteering to teach them personally would make the world of a difference to them smile.gif

good luck!

if you're a University student, u can join BUlan Sabit Merah Malaysia, BSMM (previously knows as PBSM)

I'm currently an AJK in my univ's BSMM committee, helped run blood drives (even organized one myself), go for stand-by duties at univ's various programs (even those national events like the paralympics) & joined numerous charity events under BSMM.

if ur not a student, u can still register under a nearest university as a member.

hope this helped. biggrin.gif

Hey all,

I would like to volunteer for charity too...
In my home town, I was involved in Rotaract (teaching less fortunate kids and volunteer in the dialysis centre).
Since I moved to Kajang, dunno where to start.
I want commitment to the charity I do, so cannot be too far. Approx 20km is OK.
Any suggestions?
Thanks smile.gif

Hi everyone, I just got back from Australia not long ago and I am very much interested to continue my charity work. However, I have a question I hope someone could help me out with...does the orphanage or old folks home here allow pets?

Why I ask this is because during my volunteer time in Adelaide, I used to bring my dog with me to the old folks home simply because I dont want to leave at home alone...and initially I was worried it would be bother for the elders but turns out they love him (my dog). And from then on it became a norm whereby my dog follows me every weekend. The elders find him to be a joy and great company. So I am wondering it would apply here in Malaysia.

Please advice. Thank you.

Oh ya, also are there any nearby orphanage or old folks home or charity work stuff in PJ or OUG? I live nearby these areas and it is the only area I know my way around at the moment.

Hope to get a reply from someone. Thanks very much.

PMs welcome smile.gif

Hi all,

If any of you are interested in joining a charity organization, may i recommend you Kechara House. It's a Buddhist charity organization (NGO) located in Sunway Mas Centre. Kechara has a very modern way of approach which makes the younger (and elderly) people feel comfortable with their ways

There are many departments in Kechara House (KH) which you can choose to volunteer in.

Even if you are a non-Buddhist believer, there's a department called Kechara Soup Kitchen, which helps the homeless in the streets of Kuala Lumpur every weekends by giving them food stuff to last them a week.

If any of you are interested, you can actually visit their website at www.Kechara.com.

There, you can get the contact information for the person in charge so that you can question them more about their visions. If somehow, kechara's website is down you can always email me, I'll definitely respond smile.gif

The best thing you can do is to search for any foundation near to your place and approach them and ask them if you can be a volunteer.

first step is to find which cause you think you actually can be passionate about

animals welfare? poverty? disabled and physically limited people? children? victims of human trafficking? education? refugees? senior citizens? health and science? disaster reliefs?
