there will be no problem i presume, just like when u format your computer.

btw just remember that iPhone memory is flash-based, so there should be limited read/write cycle that people should consider first, so if got some prob don't just go straight reformat the iPhone. just like any flash memory (thumbdrive, ssd, etc etc) if it reach its limit, it can't perform write to that particular sector anymore (like bad sector on hard drive, but a little different case).

but a fresh start will be good if u notice alot of "sampah" in your iPhone (especially after u perform install/uninstall and still got some "sampah" left). just restore it and start installing applications that u know it's stable and useful (u can always check this iPhone thread if u found new software releases before installing it). so this will save u from some headache in future.

so on performing restore, just make sure u have ready the needed tools.

I unlocked an iPhone with just a laptop and USB sync cable at a mamak stall. Took me 15 mins to upgrade the OS to 1.1.4 and another 7 mins for full jailbreak, unlock and activate.

I restore, unlock/activate/jailbreak, sync my medias, restore iPhone data's such as contacts/notes/calendar/settings and re-install third-party applications in an hour. It's a breeze~!

u will only being subscribed after u bring it home and connect to the iPhone / AT&T registration via iTunes.

so actually u r buying the iPhone and perform registration at your convenience (home, office, etc etc). so u can freely bypass the registration step by performing unlock and jailbreak (but of course this is illegal)

if u still don't get the concept bout the activation process, watch this video:
http://www.apple.com/iphone/gettingstarted/activation.html

simply put, u buy the iPhone at retail store, bring it home, without signing any telco contract. u will only being subscribed via activation in iTunes (select the monthly plan, phone number, and activate). if u perform unlock then u r not subscribed to the telco. the concept is that simple.

try to research more. and if u wanna ask bout bringing it here, follow this thread:

good luck!
