If a person who you offered a seat in a public train declined it, do you consider him/her rude? I mean regardless whether he/she is on a short trip, shouldn't courtesy be paid with courtesy? To be courteous is to say thank you and take the seat, isn't it? Why is that so hard?

One time I ended up without a seat and somebody less-than-deserving took up the seat I offered. I was just too embarrassed to sit back on my seat.

What do guys/gals think? Am I wrong to think this way?

A simple offer is already a form of courtesy on your side. Beyond that, you're not wrong in any way. That's in my book though.

For a person to decline your offer doesn't mean he or she is rude. Just think of it as their loss. Nothing more, nothing less.

You offer the seat to who first? Old people?

Aiyo, why you bother people looking at you? You offer, that person declined so just sit again.

You are just trying to be nice.

If you mind on how people look at you, you won't be doing things smoothly, trust me.

i dun think he/she is rude unless they reply u with "U think i am disable meh ?need your stupid seat..."

or i have seen some "golden age" ppl demanding for the seat...calling the person seated "no blardy eyes" when they were asleep/tired on the seat...

Yes of course you can reap what you sow but at the very least we must also show gratitude too (for the fruitful result). Whatever fruit you got is not the result of one person only.

A kind gesture ought to be returned with a kind gesture, by refusing that person is like giving me a bad impression of me.A bad impression of me is not a good gesture.

Does it matter who? But usually a senior citizen or anyone who seem to have his/her hands full with the things they carry in a crowded train. Why? Out of courtesy! Shouldn't that be our way of life?

I am not worried if anybody would laugh, it's just that what is happening to our society? There should be more harmony, every kind gesture should be paid in kind.
