Based on a light novel series by Arikawa Hiro, illustrated by Adabana Sukumo.

In the year 2019, the explosion of information and misinformation became a direct threat to society. In a daring decision, it was decided to create a new government agency dedicated solely to information management. Now some thirty years later, the government still monitors and controls information, suppressing anything they find undesirable, but standing against their abuses of power are the libraries, with their special agents called ‘the book soldiers.’

just finish watching the 3rd ep.

would recommend it to anyone who like this genre. it has a semi serious story but somehow they manage to squeeze in some jokes.

but i still cant get my head round having a military conflict on books... i always end up laughinig >_<

err, many feels that it's one of the best anime of the season. The notion of books being censored is not as silly as you might think lol

Censoring books is eternal in history but employing real military force to protect it......I dunno. It is just too silly.

Ah well, as long it floats anyone's boat. (shrugs)

things to improve this anime:

- less peaceful resolvements, more pulling guns out and bullet in head than badge out and walk away.

- wtf sub machine guns? need more assault rifles and sniper rifles, heck, rockets, grenades, w/e. make it fatal and full of giblets

- did i mentioned more killings? oh yea, more killings.

isnt that live action? didnt remember an anime or manga of that, could be just me

besides, i did mention i like this anime didnt i? just some wishful suggestions. dont have to take too seriously now do we? its not like ive sent a mail to the producers or something to have it realized. and its not like they are guaranteed to listen, AND re-animate/re-voice the entire episdes (assumingly everything is already done and just in queue for airing) right?

/sigh what ive said previously still applies doh.gif

anyways just watched ep3, and my my, in just 3 episodes and its already on epic proportions. a very short, but hella sweet battle between the library force and the censoring board. Despite the lack of "shoot-to-kill" intent, and more of a urban tactical warfare, its still rather logical with the situation they're in. Its pretty much a cold war, of smaller proportions, and are still subjected by japanese laws like the police/JSDF.

One can only wonder how far can this go, with such restrictions already pre-set.

An extreme intake of information censorship issue, more like it. This story assumes a draconian Japan hell bent on controlling people's right to know. Like Linkin said, it happens in real world, this anime is an attempt of satire on social issue like Battle Royale.

basically what the story revolves around a young girl who was inspired to join the library defence force after one of the librarian saved her long awaited childrens story book from getting confiscated when she was just about to buy it.

the general idea involves 2 factions, the library and the 'media cleansing committee' both of them are run similar to a military style organisation where the media cleansing committee is responsible for 'censoring' books and the library seems to want to keep it from getting destroyed(from what i can tell so far). both 'faction' are against each other to the point where it involves a full scale armed conflict. somehow the movie 'equilibrium' pop up to mind when i think about this series since it gives a little of that 'feel'.

i still cant really get my head round the idea librarians taking up arms fighting for books >_< it sounds a little silly but this series is a little of that and the humour that they have in it makes it worth while giving this series a try not to mention that the animation quality is pretty solid as well.

i give it a thumbs up and a 8.5/10 on this and would gladly recommend it to anyone looking for a semi-light hearted series (well, based on what i saw in this 3 episode)

this was a mini anime intro description on this anime i did for somewhere else. let me know if this is accurate enough as something to kick start an interest and if this describe what ppl would want to know about this series....

ARISE FROM THE DEAD.

well, i just finished the last ep of toshokan sensou. its nothing insanely different or spectacular, but for a short but sweet 12ep series, im gonna give it a 9 outta 10 with the one point being that small lacking of something that i could hardly explain. it could be the plot? storyline? pacing... or maybe just too short for me? or like what ive remembered from watching a random american idol minute on tv: "its good, but its not something that will keep people remembering it/talking bout it in years to come" <-- something along that line.

first of, graphic/animation. well, to begin with it IS HD (or should i say, HV? tongue.gif) mastered, and it does make full use of its HD boasting before the start of the show tongue.gif
coloring, animation, and the sort of CG'ish feeling is just a really amazing experience. every small detail are "cleanly" done, as what you'd expect out of a HD anime, cept this one just takes it a bit further than the rest.

sound wise, OST/BGM isnt all too standout, however the op/ed does leave a good tune and its definitely worth mentioning/remembering. the action scenes does sound really dramatic, especially the firearms, given the limited range of armaments being implemented in the anime. the lack of 5.1 is a little disappointing though tongue.gif

plot/storyline/pacing: decently well paced, a grand shoot out towards the end, and definitely emotional/touchy on the ending/conclusion. definitely a thumbs up on that despite it being a rather simple or should i even dare say, generic storyline smile.gif
could be done better, but as it stands right now, im satisfied enough smile.gif

To all of you that havent watched this, it definitely gets my recommendation. After all, whats to lose? its just 12 short episodes, and it got a mix of almost everything for everyone, be it the action, shootout crossfire, rabu-rabu, tsundere (does guys even qualify in this? ROFL, id have to get someone to get a proper term then if it doesnt work right), and a pinch of drama.

i too agree with the comment that something is lacking but animation, story and humor is good enough for me to keep watching.

digging up old thread again... watched this anime 1 or 2 years ago and recently started reading on the light novel. the light novel has more in depth plot and explains more on the war between the censorship board and library, but of course this is expected from a LN. However, i must say that the story in LN is very well paced and well plotted. If to compare with the anime, i would say the anime only touches on the relationship between kasahara and doujin, and the LN really brings out the whole situation into a real world. Moreover, it also shows how capable the Special Task Force is when dealing with all sort of situations.

a highly rated LN series if you have the time to spare to read it. smile.gif

The irony abt Toshokan sensou is that a similar situation is brewing in Japan but the players are different. In Toshokan Sensou, the cencoring faction are mostly from the central government while the Library task force is formed by the State government. In real life though, it's the opposite rclxub.gif
