QUOTE(seanlee89 @ Apr 29 2008, 03:02 PM) AV audio as in the white-red jacks?digital output can gives you discrete 5.1 channel if you got the decoder that support it. while the red-white jacks can gives you 5.1 also if your decoder support pro-logic 2, but it is through sound processing from 2 channels, and not dedicated 6 channels. |

QUOTE(xxboxx @ Apr 29 2008, 10:14 PM) AV audio as in the white-red jacks? Yeah, the red and white jacks. Would like to ask your advice if its worth getting the digital output. I currently have the Xbox AV cable( Red and white) connected to an audio in cable(green) which is connected to my computer soundcard. Think it will make a difference if i chance it with the digital output? Thanks.digital output can gives you discrete 5.1 channel if you got the decoder that support it. while the red-white jacks can gives you 5.1 also if your decoder support pro-logic 2, but it is through sound processing from 2 channels, and not dedicated 6 channels. |

red n white audio jack is only 2 channel stereo L/R in analog.
even with decoder with pro logic 2 processing it's still 2 channel stereo split into 5 channels. as mentioned above, digital will gives you the best audio quality, clearer, crisper and sharper compared to analog. but it also depends on your audio source, garbage in garbage out theory applies here. Also the type of cable you use for the digital audio. Fiber optic cable will gives you the best performance. My advice is... change to Digital, and you won't regret it |

QUOTE(seanlee89 @ May 1 2008, 01:24 PM) I have the creative sound blaster audigy 2 ZS. I'm not sure, I see some really big port, not sure if its fibre optics. Thanks nope, sorry. your sound card doesn't have optical-IN. follow the link below and see the audigy 2 external picture, there's a port with optical-IN written below it. you need something like that to get Dolby Digital (6 channels)http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/creati...2-zs/index.html what your card can do is, using the 2 channels and up-mix it to become 6 channels. |

I was talking to some other forumer the other day who's also an AV enthusiast, and apparently HDMI > Digital > RCA(red/white) ... so since you're thinking of upgrading, might as well future-proof your system and go for HDMI!

I'm already using HDMI but the thing is HDMI doesn't have sound. |

HDMI IS digitalIn terms of audio, fiber optic >> copper and digital can be transmitted in both fiber or copper HDMI is still copper, and it just mix the audio and video signal under one cable I think what the other forumer mean is that HDMI > Single RCA Digital (SPDIF, digital, usually light green) > RCA (red/white analog stereo) but for audio, still nothing beats the fiber optic. For TS's case, your soundcard should a port labeled SPDIF or digital in, which is light green in color, right? that's already a Digital port, but unfortunately Xbox doesn't have a digital out in the form of that. Digital audio from Xbox will be either be HDMI or fiber optic, so TS can just get the add on module with fiber optic in for his sound card.
