seriously the design are plain a bit...

Your website is using to introduce Local Hosting or sell hosting? If just a knowledge sharing and infor sharing, then should be no problem at the moment. Important is more useful information provided

thanks for the input. yeah its to promote Malaysian Hosts.

we want to help more Malaysians to learn more about owning a website. But currently, we do not have enough resources to do so.. so we need articles from bloggers and other people.

It's plain in overall. I would suggest a theme change (serious). Pay for a premium Joomla theme. Also, the alignment of text for your articles is not right. The headings seem to be close to the paragraphs.

Thanks for catching that ! I was thinking how come the headings were too far (in front page) but then it got too close for the other articles after I edited the CSS..

I'll consider the premium theme idea smile.gif Thanks. Your views are always good. (so far. heheh)

most people comment on the template, try to improve the template, and start build content. After both done, should be the time to market your website

Ive been thinking that the template is plain too, but then again, how do we make sure people can read the content easily at the same time ?

It cant be black, not good for sites like that. It can and should be white, with not much distractions for reading purposes, so this is what I came up with in the end. I will add some things later on, which will definitely spice the site up, but after i get some good content in biggrin.gif

Erm, My comment to the site is that it needs to put it more content. The site is too plain of information. Beside the design, you will need to put more effort in getting more information on the website.

Its.. too plain (again).

Nothing special. White background does helps visitors to read easily, but the content does not stand out(in other words, does not really catch attention).

I suggest to make it like a magazine style layout since it will be a review site.

hmm, the thing is that I made the design white and more plain so the text could be read easily. how come the text does not stand out to you ?

It can read easily, but how does it stand out from the navigation bar?

When I look at the site, the content was just like sticking together with the navi, making the area looks big and does not attract my attention to read it further. Using bright color as bg so that text could be read easily is correct, but you will also need to make the content area to be more attractive so that visitors come and read the content, not looking at the banner. smile.gif

djzen, looks like you have much to do. smile.gif

Perhaps introducing a border might help seperate the navi bar from your contents?

honestly, in my opinion the design is NOT as bad/plain as everyone says it is!
sure, it can be improved, but overall the colours match, the tones are soothing to the eyes, so no problem from me there.
(but to spice up your layout a bit, try experimenting with a patterned background smile.gif )

maybe for your header - (malaysian hosts), try changing the font? different fonts can really make a big difference.
the link hover colour (referring to your CSS) is orange, and that's quite.. odd. seeing how the colour orange came out from no where (there's not orange in your overall layout) tongue.gif

the CSS always (or usually, anyway) matches back to your layout. one trick to use is - open your header in photoshop and using the eyedropper tool, get colours from your header for the CSS (while adjusting the tone if there's a need)

overall, i think it looks fine. all the best! smile.gif

help people with websites? like.. tips on how to improve? in terms of design or content?

it depends on what sites webmasters feel like opening. if they want to b****, rant and rave about their daily lives, open a blog. if they feel like giving out some visitor content + blog, open a personal site.
if they purely want to open a site for free graphics to download, open a graphic site.

it really, really depends on the webmaster.

in terms of design - the only way to improve (in my opinion) is to surf the web and look at other people's design. especially the ones that make you go WHOAH. read up on tutorials, if you're determined to learn and improve in your design skills (and what more - in the process you'll be able to develop your own style!) experiment with textures, brushes, tools and filters provided in your image editing program, and within time, you'll definitely improve.

eh, what i wrote isn't.. that helpful, but it's from experience, haha

good luck!
