Yes, my WRT45g is password protected. But even those at the public areas that with security, my N82 could detect.

Maybe you had turned off your SSID Broadcast. That is why you can dedtect your own wireless router.
And you have to use the 1st WEP key.

No need to worry about those gaps. Just enjoy your new phone.
As for the charging, Wuahaha is right. It takes around 2 hours to fully charge the battery.

Another things is the Camera have timer countdown (example set 10 sec and the phone will capture image after 10sec). But the problem is hte N82 canot "STAND" to be placed stationary. Any idea how to place the phone stationary?

Open up your external memory card cover, swing it slightly towards the back.
Rest your phone on the table, viola, it can stands on its own. smile.gif

DO NOT overcharge Li-Ion battery...your battery lifespan will be shortened if you do so.

How long do we need to charge the battery? 2 hours?

QUOTE
What happens if a battery is inadvertently overcharged? lithium-ion is designed to operate safely within their normal operating voltage but become unstable if charged to higher voltages. When charging above 4.30V, the cell causes plating of metallic lithium on the anode; the cathode material becomes an oxidizing agent, loses stability and releases oxygen. Overcharging causes the cell to heat up. If left unattended, the cell could vent with flame.

Tell me if my interpretation from this quote is correct.

If I charge my phone battery using a charger with higher voltage for long hours will damage the battery.
If I charge my phone battery using a charger with lower voltage for long hours will not damage the battery.

QUOTE(snakevenom @ May 26 2008, 08:45 AM)
Lithium-ion batteries can rupture, ignite, or explode when exposed to high temperature environments, for example in an area that is prone to prolonged direct sunlight. Short-circuiting a Li-ion battery can cause it to ignite or explode, and as such, any attempt to open or modify a Li-ion battery's casing or circuitry is dangerous. Li-ion batteries contain safety devices that protect the cells inside from abuse, and, if damaged, can cause the battery to ignite or explode.

Guidelines for prolonging Li-ion battery life

    * Unlike Ni-Cd batteries, lithium-ion batteries should be charged early and often. However, if they are not used for a long time, they should be brought to a charge level of around 40% - 60%. Lithium-ion batteries should not be frequently fully discharged and recharged ("deep-cycled") like Ni-Cd batteries, but this is necessary after about every 30th recharge to recalibrate any external electronic "fuel gauge" (e.g. State Of Charge meter). This prevents the fuel gauge from showing an incorrect battery charge.
    * Li-ion batteries should never be depleted to below their minimum voltage, 2.4v to 3.0v per cell.
    * Li-ion batteries should be kept cool. Ideally they are stored in a refrigerator. Aging will take its toll much faster at high temperatures. The high temperatures found in cars cause lithium-ion batteries to degrade rapidly.
    * Li-ion batteries should not be frozen (most lithium-ion battery electrolytes freeze at approximately −40 °C; however, this is much colder than the lowest temperature reached by household freezers).
    * Li-ion batteries should be bought only when needed, because the aging process begins as soon as the battery is manufactured.
*
Thank you snakevenom. This is very good information on Li-ion batteries.

new user reportin in
AndrewL- 28-May-2008 (RM1475)
and i just wanna ask.. how do i transfer my contacts from my k800 to n82. i used the sim to transfer and ended up having to rename every single contact coz the names turn out in sum jumbled up form and i cant search of the contacts.
example:
in k800 contact's name is: john doe
in n82: doe:john/1

so i cant search for any contacts... pls help me, i'd very much appreciate it
*
Why worry how to search for names? Just go Contacts and key in j then follow by o. All names with JO will appear. If got too many names with JO, then key in h, then all names with JOH will appear.

Never mind lah  smile.gif  icon_rolleyes.gif
Sometimes is due to personal preference. I like all my names sort in full names, M'sian style.
e.g.
Wong Ah Kow
Charles Mohan
Mohamad Zaid bin Ibrahim

Not in:
Ah Kow, Wong
or Kow, Wong Ah
or Wong.Ah Kow
etc.  doh.gif

I have a big headache to sync with Outlook address book, in the end it mess up my phone book and I have to rectify one by one.  sweat.gif  Maybe I don't know how to sync with Outlook properly  tongue.gif

When you search, you key in w then o then n then g, this name will appear regardless which way it is displayed. Maybe other names like Ken Wong and KKWong will also displayed. So, choose from there which one you want to call.

After installed Nokia map V2, I find that there is no more option for simulation with voice navigation (not subscribe to navigation).

On V1.2 I can run the simulation after selected my destination. This way I can do a trial run before the actual travelling.
V2 has more information on locations and addresses.

I installed V2 via Nokia PC Suite.
I downgrade it back to V1.2 via the phone WiFi using Nokia website in the default Bookmark.

w00t can download to v1??
can post guide? im using black come with 2.0

1. You connect your N82 to your house WiFi.
2. Go to the Internet via WiFi (not 3G or GPRS as this will cost you money).
3. Go to Bookmark and select Nokia.
4. At Nokia website, go and download Maps.
5. Just down the Map you want and install.

It works for me. Hope it works for you too.

guys.... i hit the no gateway reply again... why huh?
*
That means your WiFi is not activated.
You activate your WiFi first then launch the Map.
See if the message still comes out.

FYI, with that no gateway message pop up every time you launch the Map, you still can use the Map normally.

Why don't you try the headset on another phone to check if it has the same sound?
This way you can confirm if it is the headset or the phone problem.

QUOTE(Fearless @ Jul 14 2008, 09:27 PM)
You are not the only one facing this kind of problem. My friend is a busy businessman, he got no time to wait for his new battery fully charged, now he complained his battery drains off very fast.

There are people try to use no memory effect theory for lithium battery in every aspect.

If you read those thousand articles carefully, only no memory effect on discharging is mentioned. There are articles using conditioning effect term for new battery charging.

I tested my new solar charger last week, I only portionlly-charged it with solar panel for the first time and recharged the charger. The charger cannot be fully charged afterward.

Luckily my USB cable charger is malfunctioned, I exchanged my charger with a new one. Now I make sure my new charger is fully charged and discharged for the first few cycles.

Samsung is going to release fuel cell battery this year, you can forget lithium or old technology batteries by using samsung phones.
*
After reading your post, I realised that after buying a new phone from the shop, the battery has already been charged. So, the first time charge on the battery is from the manufacturer/shop. We don't know how long they charged the battery for the first time. So, it depends on your luck. When we buy the phone and charge the battery "our first time" we could be charging that battery 2nd time or 3rd time already.
Am I correct to say that? tongue.gif

anybody can confirm this?
*
If your battery has 2 bars left, that means the battery was charged before. For how long we don't know. They could have charged the battery for 20 minutes and packed in the box. Do you think they will charge the battery for 8 hours and then packed in the box? hmm.gif

It could be the battery contact with the phone is no good. Try to clean and adjust the contacts.
