Heyz everybody...Just though i gather some opinion and as well as information...So here's the story, I have an Ibanez EXR 170, or Ergodyne series guitar...It is a H-S-H setup...Pretty awesome guitar, but I need something with more punch...hence I wanna upgrade my pickups...But here's the problem...I dunno which path to take...Seymour Duncans(while I am not too familiar with the brand, I am hoping some sifus out there can gimme their opinion) or Dimarzios(I am abit much more familiar with this, but I have my doubts..)

Anyways, my teacher says with Dimarzios, the sound I will get is pretty much either similiar or the same as the artist using them(Btw, I am eyeing the Dimarzio Paf Pro series)..while the argument on the other side is that Seymour Duncans are much more versatile...

I like messing around with distortion...but at the same time I want something bright...a brightish fender sound...but i would also want something that gives me that grunt and power when I need it..in this case, 70% of the time..so yeah..sifus, guitarist, anyone who knows what they are talking about when it comes to pickup, drop me a reply!

To me, I would go for the classic combo of a Jazz/JB seymour duncan Humbucker.
Nice and trebly and there's power when I need it.

Hmm..oh yeah speaking of which..I plan to change the bridge pickup..aha..abit more details

For DiMarzios you could try using the Humbucker From Hell. Bright clean clear and hardcore. . . builds technique too!

put in a push pull and the Hell would would sound fender.

The other would be the Evo?

the JB from duncans are nice. . . i have a friend with a schecter equipped JB at the bridge. . .

X2N would also be fun xD

and EMG81?

for me, i chose SD's '59 and JB.
JB for higher output stuff, and 59 for vintage/clean stuff.

To me, EMGs 81 highlights the guitar type rather then change it's tone.
Yes, it's high output, but if you put them into a crappy guitar, it's only going to sound marginally better.... If you put them in an average guitar, it's just going to push the performance.

probabli u cud get a humbucker the 4conductor type
work a split-coil and voila single coil tone

and a flip back to a humbucker
PAF Pro's are sweet tones
prob u cud check my signature
have sum pups for sale lol

go for Dimarzios....it will work best for your ibanez model..

try Evos , or anything with high mids and trebs..

what amp are you using?

generally, seymour duncans are the 'safe choice' for the standard sound.

but if you know what specific sound you want then dimarzios have more variety.

Hey all, I am using a Smarvo amp..err 15 watts only la..nothing special...Err artist...I listen to alot of rock..tone and sounds such as Satriani and Vai catches my eye..or rather ears...

So yeah..something versatile...btw, thanks for the feedback so far guys! A quick question though...is the Paf Pro Series recommended? Is it versatile? I mean, i had people saying that they only sound like Satriani and no one else...' That might just put me off.....

EQ and I can vouch for that...

D-Sonic with Push/Pull has lots of tones. . . and the pole piece position gives you diff sounds too =)

Bar towards the bridge has a more trebly sound, and bar towards the neck has a warmer/fatter sound, and it's a tad louder too...

PAF pro = satriani??

Haha, I did some research...and tried out the Seymour Duncan Screaming Demon..and I like the sound..but the put off is the price tag...Though, I did find some stuff about Dimarzio Tone Zone...and I wonder if that is split coil or not..

Or is it just a high output humbucker..which wouldn't be too bad of an option as well..

I've heard a Tone Zone on a PGM that sounds really great! Worth a try

How about dimarzio d-activators. I'm thinking of putting them in my guitar. Anyone have any experience with these pickups? I would appreciate any feedback. I play all kinds of music and looking for something that is versitile.
