Hi OKK,

I bought eee 900.

The swapping is the whole unit.

You should do so if problem not solved.

It s from the seller, not asus.

does the battery drain only affects 701 and 900 machines? any 901 or 1000 users having battery drain prob?
*
I have an unit of 900 bought one week ago.

The battery drained so much. If fully charged, it went down to 90% the moment I started XP. Lost another 10% within 4 minutes. About an hour, only 20% left. Stay away from 900. I have lost faith in Asus over this matter.

It forced me to change to 1000. Quite happy with the battery , though getting about 5 hrs.

For the price of money you pay for 900, I wonder why people should not consider WIND.

901, a lot of good reviews here, but I have not tested. Read back to get some feedbacks.

WIND is the most popular netbook at this moment according to cnet. asia.

if u charge the battery of 701 and 900 to 100%, turn the machine off for a day - the battery will indicate about 90%. so if u left it unused for several days.. the battery will drop abt 10% a day (on average). not sure if this happens to 901 and 1000 machines though.
*
Yes, I agree with you. I have tested 2 units , even with 5200 battery, the battery problem remains the same

I advise you to change to 901 model, 4 to 5 hrs should not be a problem.

hi sky,
how much u got ur 1000?

also, how much is WIND selling in LYP now? 8.9" or 10"?
*
Read the WIND VS 1000 THREAD for further details. Read cnet.asia to get more.

1000 is about RM 1999. Some says PJ is selling RM 1699.

I have wasted a lot of time with testing 900. I think acer inspire one is even better. Go for Asus 901 or 1000 or Wind.

try to go for Atom machine, not celeron m.

couple reason why i choosed ASUS over MSI ... first of all ... ASUS alrerady had the 700 and the 900 ... so with the new 1000 .. they are the veteran in the market... i'm sure they have made alot of improvement to meet the market's demand ..

as for MSI ... they are new in these UMPC ... and fairly new for portable pc/laptop/notebook ....

ASUS has been around for quite some time and they have reputation for good gaming related product .... so that's why i choose asus over msi ...

yes, MSI is much cheaper and of cuz there is reason to it. u get what you pay for ...

as for acer ... ..erm ...the brand itself spelled problem .. so try to avoid acer ..
*
Kind of agree. I Opt for 1000.

On the other hand, the quality control of Asus is not there for eee pc due to heavy demands.

Then again, their batteries supplied from LG was facing a problem ( due to a serious fire in April this year ).

But the others may want to impress the consumers ( as new comers ), so the quality could be better than Asus.

The original 900 was designed to run with 5800m ah battery supposed to be from LG according to a reviewer who tested the unit.

The fire at LG plant caused a serious shortage in worldwide supply and cost of batteries shoot up high. Asus changed the battery spec to 4400 and launched 900 in HK and UK. These consumers were not happy with what they supposed to get ( difference from the preview ).

Asus later launched the 5800 spec in US. But for Malaysia, we are getting 4400 spec.

701 are of 5200 spec, though of smaller LCD. So 5800 battery is intended for 900 running on celeron m.

Just pick up here and there from the internet. And still testing my 1000, lot more stable than 900.

1 GB with only one slot. So swap with 2gb for about RM 70 to 100 , could be a better choice.

Get the ram with eee power saving.

Just my 2sen opinion.

How long your battery lasts ?

Do you have a 10% loss ( showing only 90% left ) the next day, though you have fully charged ? And it would drop to 80% within the next 4 to 5 minutes of using. It is fast losing , and not slowly losing.

And cnet.asia claimed that 4400m ah would last only 1hr 30 minutes. My previous 900 was about that.

Mind to share ?

Max can go up to 2 gb by swapping the 1gb ram with 2 gb

Unfortunately only have 1 slot

They are people asking for battery (1000H)

Here is it, made by Asus

Manufacture in China

+7.4 V  6600 mAh

Added on August 10, 2008, 11:18 pmNow pairing it with bluetooth laser mouse.

Magnificient.

The bluetooth software is marvelous. Very fast detection.

Other findings:-
Put on the AC plug, turn to Super Performance Mode - you will like it
Adaptor is very hot.

ONLY ? 5 hours only? LOL not enough????
if u expecting 7hours as advertise on the asus 1000H laptop , then you have to use your UMPC in standby mode .. smile.gif
even if u turn off everything etc.bluetooth, wireless, lowest brightness etc..., you can't achieve 7 hours ... 5 hours is long enough ...
*
I think you have misunderstood my question.

I am talking about the battery indicator when you first charge up your battery. Does it indicate 7 hours like 901 model or 5 hrs , that is shown on my 1000h model.

I am not complaining whether one should get a full 7 hours.

I am merely seeking info from other 1000h users.

am another proud eeepc 901 owner today... hello everyone... m typing this wimmy 901. hehehehehe. Hopefully we can share our experience and problems and solution between us.

Have you tried to hibernate and restart the computer. It is fast , taking about a second or 2 to come back ( on 1000h ). Just a bit slower than PDA. But you need about 2gb space to save , if your ram is 2gb.

Good for people always on the road , and able to do some paperworks while waiting for clients at the cafes.

I odeli addicted to hibernation mode many years ago, while on the meetings and so so.

And the on and off wifi button is also wonderful. It saves u a lot of battery power if u off them.

It is fast .

Just to share a bit of what i know.

P/S : I think only Asus has the experience in handling customers' expectations. That is why they have 6600m ah battery for 901 n 1000H. The competitors ( wind or acer ) still not very aware of this important issue.

dude we all use eeepc as back-up laptop on the move. Consider bigger screen @10 inch, better go for 1000h or msi wind but 901 beat em all in battery life. Afterall, MSI wind only came wif 3 cell battery pack mean crappy battery life and its worldwide shortage.

We still need external cdrom in case of windows having problem.

Because i travel a lot, I think, 901 is purrfect for me. IT has perfect balance between ultra portablility, power and battery life.
*
Actually I have a 12.1 inch notebook, but going into semi retirement. So 10" screen could be a perfect replacement since 12.1 is also too heavy to carry around. 1000h has better quality and bigger keyboard making less typo errors. A bit heavy and more expensive.

I like the light weight of 901, but settled for 1000H bcos I need a light notebook. For this price I could only getting a 14.1 notebook, which is too heavy to carry around. 80GB storage is also an added advantage ( compared to 901 ).

Both 901 and 1000h are meant to be tougher machines ( than wind and acer ) and hence having a longer lifespan. People do complain about vibration in wind, but not for 901 n 1000h. Build quality is fairly important for an ultra portable machine. Good battery life is also the important factor. WIFI drains out a lot of battery power. Support services from Asus are also important. I think WIND support services are still not well tested in local market. What if they pull out of this market a year later, due to strong competition ? I have a palm pda,but need to send to Singapore for technical support.

901 is more value for money and hence has higher demands.

Installations of softwares can be done through Desktop cd rom by way of local or wifi networking or through pen drives, saving up the money.

But do take care of LCD screen, and any replacement later could cost more than RM 1k after the warranty period. ( correct me if I am wrong ).

I was sick and spent most of my day yesterday lying in bed recuperating, during the hours which I was awake I used the eeePC901 to surf the web, check mail, etc. etc. The 901 lasted me the through out the day for say... 4 hours? 6 cell battery very good!
*
Asus odeli knows how to handle customers' expectations, while others ( wind and acer ) are still learning.

Asus did deny the need to have longer battery life when they launched 900 in HK in April this year. Now, it seems to be their secret weapon, against others at this moment.

Of course, that said the extended battery does make the 901 a little heavier,  i guess if getting something for a child, the AAO which is lighter might be better.
*
Latest acer netbook is also about a kilo, but with 3 cell battery, compared with 901.

They design a bigger keyboard for the children, the plus factor.

FROM STAND-BY MODE CHANGE TO HIBERNATE MODE

Go click on START
Go click on Power Off and wait d window pops out.

Now you see 3 options - Standby, Turn Off and Restart.
Put your cursor on Stand-by button there and press SHIFT key. Hahaha~
Standby button now had turned to Hibernate button.
DONE.

Pros: No need to boot, better than stand-by coz it won't drain power and convenience.

Cons: some programmes might encounter problem when resume. So pls save data b4 Hibernate ya~
*
I thought you need to press fn and F1 ( sleep ) key together ( if you set the power in the screen saver properly ). Do not need to go out of the windows.

hmm.. thanks..

sorry its 901 tongue.gif still trying to get use with the small keyboard...hahahah

guess i should just charge up the battery n keep... plug it in when im on the move..

also, i noticed that i'll require 1G+ of space when i choose hirbenate... space on 901 C:/ is crucial..  hehe

also, what if i upgrade the RAM to 2GB? will it require more empty space for hirbenating?
*
2gb ram needs about 2024mb of storage space. If storage space could be a luxury for 901 model., then 1gb ram could be fine.

Not so if you have 30gb of hdd.

It saves quite lot of time from booting ( let say you use yr 901 a few times a day ). It is quite instant.

by the way, i just noticed that my 901 charger adapter is generating some small noise while charging my 901...

have u heard such noises from the power adapter? just worried it might burn or so.

also, what would be the recommended antivirus programme for 901?
*
ASUS should be able to exchange 1 to 1 for you, if the noise is not within acceptable level.

I just exchange my 6600m ah battery.

Again, you have to present your case in a nice and convincing manner.

Asus's service is something the consumers can depend on, worth the extra bucks you pay for the eee pc. ( not sure about WIND OR ACER ).

7" screen is really really painful ...
